I think Douglas has been around as a scout and team executive long enough to figure out that Rodgers could become a problem for the Jets next year simply because while Rodgers hasn’t said he wants to retire this year, who says that at one year older, he won’t retire next year. Throw in traded draft picks and the hit on the cap, Carr at 7 years younger though not as talented is a more viable pick up.

Also by getting Carr, Zach’s future with the team will be he has no future with the team. If the Jets get Rodgers, would the Jets be forced to kick in Zach’s fifth year option, next year.

Hopefully by getting Carr, barring injury, the Jets will be stabilizing the teams quarterback situation for at least 3-4 years.

Hoping to sign Carr this week, if the Jets do, Douglas, Saleh, Hackett & Downing did a Hell of a Sales Job. Could Gase have pulled this off ? I don’t think so .The Saints seem to be the primary competition, and they have been restructuring everyone they can, just to get under the CAP. Restructuring can get you just so far, New Orleans is going to have to cut some folks. The CAP is increasing, but is 2024 the Saints are over the CAP by only 29 million, compared to the Jets at 112 million. I can’t see how the Saints can pay Carr, even with all the CAP gyrations.

Speaking of CAP, 11 million for a Left Tackle is cheap, Duane Brown at LT is great for the Jets. Becton moves to Right Tackle . Mekhi & AVT on the right side , run right all day long. Not sure if one of the top three OT’s can make it to 13. Okay with Schmidtz at 13.

Wether it’s Carr or Rodgers, once this gets done, it will stop a small group of Jet fans who have been posting this question. Do you think we should be going after Carson Wentz?

I can't wait for Jeremy Fowler to announce that Aaron Rodgers is leaning towards the Jets. Gardner Minshew...here we come.

Joe Douglas does not know what he is doing ! I keep saying this over and over again. If he is waiting on Rogers then he is worse then I thought he was. So it’s really Jimmy G and one injury away for Wilson again.

Sounds like Carr is signing with the Saints, per 2 reports from Russini and Garafalo.

If we don't get Rodgers, who's our next choice?

Big swing for Lamar? Tannehill?

Jimmy G is way lower on my list.

I just read the Saints are signing Carr - it never ends with the Jets. So now what i have been saying all along its Jimmy G.. Total somke screen that Carr and the Jets were in love with each other. Why we continue to root for this god forsaken team is beoyond me.

Good morning David. As always, well done. Watching ESPN and the NFL Network as I’m writing this it’s looking more and more like David Carr will be our QB this season. And that’s fine. If that turns out to be the case I would love to re sign MFW as the ideal #2. Other than his guaranteed money I see no point in hanging onto ZW. It makes zero sense. No matter what happens he’s not playing. He should not be trusted to be the backup. So if he sits the next two seasons where does that leave him heading into the 2025 season? I don’t see any way the Jets would pick up his 5th year option. What I do think the Jets might do is draft a developmental QB later in the draft. I think we saw 4 or 5 kids throwing over the weekend that might make interesting options in rounds 4 thru 6.

hey David and team!

agree with you, bruddah - I say JD still gets a top-tier OT @ 13, and maybe trades up to ensure we get either John Michael Schmidt or Luke Wypler, the Ohio State Center (go Nick Mangold!) who is also a lifelong Jets fan (shades of Jeremy Ruckert). Wypler's damn good, just a nudge lower rated than JMS, and he looks like he's got a mean streak, if one judges his pic on NFLDraftBuzz, LOL.

I think Chris Smith is unattainable for us - he's a solid top of 2nd round pick, and we really need to cowboy up on the OL, get Brickashaw/Mangold V2.0 up and running.

Then rounds 3 and 4, we get LB & S with strong coverage skills. You know, if we would have had a FS with better coverage than Joyner, we could have let Whitehead loose doing what he does best; support the box and give bone-crushing hits to anyone rushing or running a slant. Then there'd be no chatter about him being a cut candidate I think.
