One criticism of ZW last week was his reluctance to use his legs when it opened up in front of him. Yesterday he did that and gained vital yards, shows me they’re working on his weaknesses and that he’s listening and learning. He’s only going to get better, my faith in him has been reignited.
They did a segment, showing the stats of Allen & Wilson in their second year, compared side by side, absolutely identical. Allen put it together in his third year, and played at an all pro level. Beginning to believe the Jets have given Zach the tools and the support to make that happen. The Jets Screen Game has evolved. First, Defensively the Jets for the first time in a decade are stopping screen plays, shout out Quincy. Offensively , the Jets are a below average Screen Team, but that is an improvement over being terrible. The Screen to Robinson for the score , was a thing of beauty. TE Screen to Uzomah only got seven yards, but it’s a tool in the Zach Tool box, Uzomah looked like a freight Train.
Agreed there. Although I would say that Allen put it together somewhat in his second year. Year three is when he became an All-Pro but in in year two he did end with 20 passing touchdowns in comparison to just 9 INT, passed for over 3000 yards and rushed for over 500. So he was well on his way before he got to year three. Not sure we're going to see Zach do that, and in some ways I do think it's unfair to put that Allen expectation on Zach like some in the fanbase are doing (certainly not you), Allen was the exception rather than the rule. Hopefully Zach can be too.
The Bills did a magnificent job in supporting Allen and his skill set. An example for the entire league. Diggs made such a difference. The Jets in their own way have supported Zach , improving TE’s , RB’s, WR’s and the Offensive Line that has taken perseverance and grit. Those fourth string OT’s did pretty well yesterday. Zach’s growth is linked to this Offensive Group. Would agree that expecting Wilson to achieve Allen’s level of proficiency is nuts, but it is comforting and gives us perspective that Allen & Zach we’re at a moment in time on the same developmental path.
The Jets win! Oh yeah! I'll enjoy this win with the rest of Jets nation. I was at the game and here were some of my observations:
1. The crowd attendance was 50/50 Jets/ Bills fans and maybe more Bills. Too much blue in the stadium.
2. ZW played the type of game he needed to play against that Buffalo D. He is still developing as a QB and this game showed progress!
3. The O-line held up and you could argue that this group could start for any team the way they played against the Buffalo D-line.
4. #8 has disappeared as a weapon. For someone who showed so much promise last year it's a bit head scratching why he isn't getting targets.
5. Mims is playing well. Big catch and blocks like a beast.
6. The DB's were a weakness last year. This years DB group is playing like they are best in the league. Last years starting CB Bryce Hall was inactive.
7. If the Buffalo kicker makes that 55 yard FG at the end of the half, this game would have been tied and I'm not sure we win but the team wasn't giving Buffalo the W. They had to earn it.
8. Bryce Huff is the real deal.
9. Give credit to the coaching staff. They had a good game plan.
10. Ashton Davis sighting. I think everyone, including me, knew the ball was getting snapped to him.
PS: Your line was funny as hell: The offensive line, the banged-up offensive line that has had more guest appearances than Saturday Night Live, came up big.
Great observations. I think the Moore situation is going to be an interesting one to monitor as we progress through the season. I do think that as we move along defenses will key in on taking Wilson away and forcing Zach to go elsewhere. The good part for Moore was that he tripled his actual snap count, so at least he was on the field. I hope we can work him back in as relying so heavily on one receiver can backfire.
I agree....why is Moore no longer apart of the game plan. Is it because he complained....I doubt it or why even play him at all. They just don't throw the ball a lot and Zach only targets one WR (who is awesome). Still he needs to spread the ball around.
Kudos to this Offensive Line. Herbig is such a surprise, doesn’t fit the mold of an athletic Wide Zone blocking Guard that can run. Douglas sees and understands value, the coaches made it work. Nate has some ceiling.
Is Bryce Hall hurt ? Curious that he is inactive. Echols is playing well. Time to convert Bryce to Safety ?
I thought there was a chance that Bryce would get dealt before the deadline, he's been jumped by Echols on the depth chart and it seems his route to getting back on the field is through injuries and injuries alone. We haven't heard a peep out of him though, but I'm sure he's frustrated at the lack of playing time.
we got some 'rude' comments around us early on - had to bite out tongues. Then they became really "nice" and friendly and talking with us how the jets were good - gee i wonder why LOL
Good write up. Was great seeing all the Bills fans leave the stadium bummed out. I told my son - "the jets keep winning there will be less and less of the opposing teams fans in the stadium. It was also refreshing to hear the "LETS GO JETS" chant. Havent' heard that and that loud since Namath played at the Big Shea (i know im old lol)
You're right Steve, when the broadcast camera panned the stadium and there was as much blue as green in the stands I felt a bit deflated, not sure how it felt to be there. But you're absolutely right, the Jets have been seen as an easy picking for away fans to see a victory, not anymore.
I heard that Zack is watching films of Josh Allen early in his career. Thst is a mistake. He will never be Allen. He should be watching Alex Smith the ultimate game manager.
I wonder if the jets can afford to keep Huff in wraps until the crucial 4th quarter when he has fresh legs and the opponent's front line is beat up in every game? That has certainly worked so far, but does he have no other skills that would help us earlier in the game as well? I'm not complaining he has been a game changer, just curious.
Yeah I heard that comment in the broadcast and in a way I kind of understand it, because he has arm talent and mobility and he's just looking for someone who struggled early with accuracy and decision making and Josh Allen certainly fits that. I also think that he's not ready to accept that he is a game manager even though that's what he'll need to be this year for the Jets to make the playoffs and potentially win a game or two.
On the second point I'd need to look at it a little more, I know the Jets aren't overly keen on Huff's ability against the run and that's what kept him out at the start of the season, but maybe that's progressed a little bit. Having him as a predominantly 2nd half pass rusher seems to be working quite well at the minute
The Trading of Martin maybe an indicator that Huff has improved against the run. Certainly Bryce is motivated to improve against the run, his playing time depends on it. But consider the Jets alternative at DE is JJ or Curry( who is rounding into shape ). Note, Bryce can drop into coverage, a real gimmick for this defense, but a remote possibility when they keep a back in, to stop Huff
When Mitchell come back he DOES NOT REPLACE Nate and t I am not sure when Fant comes back he starts. I love getting the depth but I don't mess with the OL we have. They were awesome yesterday. I can't believe how surprised the Jets won yesterday. I woke up Wednesday and bet the Jets money line +480 and I never bet $100 in one bet but I just loved them to win by a FG.
I'm so happy they won, but I'm concerned that Zach doesn't get all his WR involved. After Garrett Wilson and not counting the TE receptions, Berrios and Mims only had 1 reception each and again no receptions to Moore who is too talented not to be involved in the offense.
I think that's fair to be concerned Chris, I'm concerned myself. I do think over the 2nd half of the season we'll see more teams work to take Wilson out of the gameplan and then Zach will have no choice but to look for other receivers
The best thing about this team for me this season is that they have won the games they have played well or close in (barring the Browns which was a clear fluke), and got battered in the games they played badly in. Losing games your team should have won is the most infuriating thing, and is a sign the team isn't serious.
Still a tough schedule the rest of the way, but if they take care of the home games at a minimum and take a couple on the road, most preferably the next game, we'll be in business.
I'm not sure how to deal with competence from the Jets.

lets go get the Division
we got some 'rude' comments around us early on - had to bite out tongues. Then they became really "nice" and friendly and talking with us how the jets were good - gee i wonder why LOL
Ha, I think we're slowly gaining the NFL community's respect. A playoff appearance will go a long way to really establishing that.
Good write up. Was great seeing all the Bills fans leave the stadium bummed out. I told my son - "the jets keep winning there will be less and less of the opposing teams fans in the stadium. “The OL with more guest appearances than SNL” awesome line. Great win. Great Article, I Believe!
