I think we all need to recognize that the Jets didn't win this game, Cleveland lost it. If the Browns made one less among so many mindless mistakes, they easily win the game.
Absolutely true, but there is an element that the team still needed to execute and there have been times over the last decade where even when handed multiple lifelines, the Jets have not executed and still ended up losing.
In every comeback the losing team does in fact contribute to the success of the winning team. To say The Jets "didnt win this game" imo is incorrect. They won the game fair and square. They took the opportunities presented to them and excuted on them. Anyone of 10 different things could have stopped them from winning the game. This is including Davis INT at the end,if not made the Browns would have kicked the winning FG.
Of course this is a matter of semantics. The Jets obviously wound up with more points, but they didn't ever dominate or even control the game as a team should to be acclaimed as a deserving victor. I do think you and I can agree that without question, Cleveland lost.
That i do agree and actaully worried that that the Jet defense everyone is raving about is not good. I actually think they were out coached on the Browns O- Plan and the Jets never adjusted. Again - a win is a win and we are 1-1 or the first time in 10000 years.
Looking further ahead, I am far from sanguine about Zack being the savior of this ill-fated franchise. I love the additions supporting him but I unfortunately anticipate Gang Green fans hoping for a high draft position once again to finally nail THAT GUY. To think we passed on a guy who plays on the only real New York NFL entry only gives this VERY long suffering devotee only in more pain. How long? I went to High School with Matt Snell!
The Jets and the Giants are the real NYC teams - the dumb bills mafia use that all the time. Kind of agree on ZW. However, none of us know - he just hasnt played. I for one am still pissed he didnt run out of bounds. hes plays 13 games total and for most of them he stunk. Need to see him play this year and as fast as possible. I do in fact want WINS - sick of going as a season ticket holder and listening to the other teams fans and being out of it. Right now we in it and have to start stacking wins. If ZW stinks then yes of course draft another one and it will be a top 5 pick - but im not wishing that i just want to win - I saw Namath play at Shea. WOW on HS and Snell - really cool.
Love the section on rookies that we could have drafted. Mitchell compares favorably with some of the premier Offensive Tackles. Douglas drafting skills, 2022 fourth round Mitchell & Cleamons are exceeding expectations.
Ha, I don't think you'll be the only one. The Jets released a mini movie that has you covered ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Sjx5C0Hr8 - I said to my wife at that point, "Jets lost again"
Matt only played 2 years in HS. The first year he averaged 10 yards per carry, the next 15. Both years the team was undefeated. Went to The Ohio State University played 4 different positions in his four years and then was the first overall pick in the draft by the Jets one year before they selected Joe Willie.
first 3-4 games of NFL season especially with a young team, are basically extended preseason. Coaches have to figure out sub patterns and with the late injuries and OL shuffle, its gonna take a few games. So all I want to see until Pittsburgh is steady improvement in all phases. Defensively we played better decent for longer 3qtrs instead of 1 /2, but were more poorous against a run, plus pass rush was rshockingly poor. STS increased across board but can tackle bettr on Punt team. Offense, made leaps and just needs to continue improvement in OL play and we have to run the ball more : 45:20 is not the ratio we want. Need to rush at least 30 times/ gm.
"he used a lot of misdirection, screens, and quick throws to use the aggressiveness of the Jets against them."
This is precisely what we should have also done. I don't think we did it nearly enough.
And, as I've said before, the inability of this team to run a classic screen has been a concern for years (since Curtis Martin). It is a necessary part of today's game (as are the quick and jet screens).
Love these stat pack updates on Tuesdays! It adds so much clarity.
I'm still wondering the WR snaps by slot vs outside, and who they were up against. On a team like Cleve, I assume assuming Denzel Ward will lock down our best receiver, but was he mostly on Corey Davis?
I'm so curious who Garrett Wilson kept beating to get open. Was it a mismatch or was it a top CB?
I did actually look at all this last night but ran out of space in the newsletter.
Some details for you that I noted down on this.
Wilson played more out wide (52%) than in the slot (40%). Elijah Moore played 72.4% of his snaps out wide, which was the second highest number behind Corey Davis at 79.8%.
In terms of Garett Wilson he had one TD against Martin Emmerson and his other was against JOKER. Denzel Ward was responsible for the TD's of Davis and Breece Hall.
Ward was mainly on Corey through the game, but Wilson beat a fair few players.

Tomorrow's newsletter is all about Mitchell and comparing him with other offensive tackles drafted this year.
The One big comparison should be with Bernard Raimann taken 1 round earlier
OK I'm ready to admit it now...1 min 55 on the clock, Browns had just gone 30-17 ahead...I turned the TV off and went back to the pub...D'OH!

I also look forward to the rookie breakdown on guys we considered drafting. Thank you!
