Thank you for reminding everyone that it is early. No need for overreaction n Klubnick or Smith. I do like the positive vibe on Cade though. Having a down senior year after such a successful junior year should build the toughness that will be necessary at this level. Nothing worse than only succeeding and then having to deal with failure on the largest stage. Many of these guys never come back from that.
Teaching kids how to deal with failure is the most important lesson a parent or coach can do. Always putting kids in a position of success is not doing anyone any favors.
You're absolutely right there Doug. I think there was a coach in the new trailer for the Jets origins show who said "Everyone loves to talk about moments of success, but we're defined more by moments of adversity" and I agree with that.
You usually only get to enjoy that success by learning from that failure as well. We've done a lot of failing recently, let's hope we've learned a thing or two.
Did see an article that I forgot to include here today about the Jets embracing AI.
A Thursday morning Jets Way, David you are now in midseason form. 🎉🎊HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN🎊🎉
David from yesterday’s Jets Way,
“I really wanted to get a UDFA into this list, call it the Chrebet impact but it’s always the position group where I think you’re more likely to find a UDFA diamond in the rough.”
Well it would appear, that unfortunately Arian Smith is reverting back to college days.
Coming out of college, the big negative on him was his drops.
He’s baaack. He is currently having a rough camp.
During his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs, Arian Smith accumulated 68 career receptions for 1,155 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging 19.9 yards per catch.
He struggled significantly with dropped passes, particularly during his final college season in 2024, where his 10 drops tied for the third-most in the entire FBS and resulted in an 11.8% drop rate.
The Jets were sort of criticized when they reached for him in the fourth round. Maybe when they reached for him, they should have dropped him.
David, you just might yet get a Chrebet impact UDFA surprise who catches everything.
The Jets historically have gone into seasons at times with different themes.
Whether it was the Favre Affect or the Rodgers Circus🎪🤡 or Namath’s triumphant return from retirement because of the Bachelors 3 incident.
Unfortunately this coming season, the big distraction will be the 2027 draft. And where the Jets two additional 1s will land. I’m sure who ever announces Jet games this year will mention it constantly.
I’m sure and it is human nature that some fans will be scoreboard watching on opening day, keeping tabs on the Colts, Cowboys and Packers.
For this one season only, the Torch and Pitchfork Brigade will be weekly rooting for the Jets and the opponents of the above three teams on a weekly basis.
The official Brigade draft primer offers these opening week games
if you are interested.
Jets at Tennessee
Ravens at Colts
Packers at Vikings
Cowboys at Giants.
Ironically, much to Jet fan’s chagrin, Jerrah Jones after his usual 4 vodka lunch was Sabre rattling with the press about how he thinks the Cowboys are one defensive player away from making the Super Bowl.
Hey Jerrah, why then did you trade Parsons away.
Jerrah’s right hand man, his son Steven has said that extending Q Williams is a priority. He is entering the last year of his Jet contract.
Good for Q, he gave us his all, he deserves it.
Getting back to Parsons, because of his ACL injury, he probably won’t be back until week 6.
So not only will the Jets not see him week 2 but the Packer defense will not be as good for those first six weeks of the season.
Every Packer, Cowboy and Colt loss, helps the Jets greatly.
The one defensive player away is absolutely hilarious considering that Parsons trade. I did see that he said he'd be willing to send away some draft capital as well.
Talking of receivers and drops, did you see the video of Marvin Harrison Jr in Arizona, think he had 3-4 drops in total and it looked awful, almost like he couldn't be bothered.
Sure his dad won't be overly happy when he sees that.
Quite possible that after playing for a dominating successful team in college than landing up in Florham Park west has really beaten him down.
Just like Garrett has had a plethora of quarterbacks throwing to him due to quarterback injuries.
Then again, maybe after how many years of playing football, he’s had it.
Quite possibly needs a change of scenery.
To many NFL fans, ex- Jet Super Bowl receiver George Sauer was just that a receiver, unfortunately he could have been an all time great Jet receiver.
His father George Sr was a coach and had ties with the Jets.
George Jr one day said that’s it I’m done. I’m sure playing and growing up in Texas, Friday Night Football and University of Texas football where he played might have mentally worn him down.
6 years with the Jets, when Namath started to blossom so did he.
I think for Harrison being a top 5 pick and seeing your TD production half in year two will get some doubts creeping in. From what I've seen fans are really starting to get on his back, although 12 TDs in two years is hardly bust potential. Ironically he's probably not being helped by teammates Wilson and McBride who are as consistent as they come (4.9% and 0.8% drop rate respectively).
Bobber, even if AZ is willing to trade him, what are you going to have to give up to get him? Even more importantly, why would you trade for him. Wilson is great. Mitchell is starting to look like he's going to be very good, if not great and dynamic. The Jets just drafted Cooper. They have Sadiq, Thomas, Breece, and Isaiah Williams. There are only so many balls to go around.
The following Camp Report is from a poster at Jets Nation who has media credentials and who has been doing excellent camp reports for years. These are yesterday's notes. I will also post today's notes.
General Notes
• Players in shorts & shells, practice ran 2 hours
• Gee Scott (WR) went down with a non-contact injury during drills
• For the second day in a row an interesting coaching dynamic is showing up on the offensive side of the ball. Frank Reich oversees the offense and calls the plays but he’s “empowering” the younger coaches to install the offense. Particularly visible is Sean Ryan (Passing Game Coordinator) and Junior Taylor (Asst. WR Coach)
• The defense enforced their will early in practice but the offense bounced back later. So it was a fairly even day
Special Team Notes
• The kickers made their debuts today and both were accurate. Cade York was 6/6 and Jason Sanders was 5/6. The attempts were from 30, 35, 40, 42, 45 and 47 yards. Sanders missed from 47 in his final kick. In my opinion watch York, his leg really looked explosive with his kicks going through the top of the uprights. Which means all of his kicks would’ve been good from a longer distance
Defense Notes
• Harrison Phillips and David Onyemata anchored the middle early in practice and stuffed the running game. They also compressed the pocket in the passing game and let the edges eat
• Kingsley Enagbare had an impressive day as he brought pressure off the edge multiple times and blew up TE screens
• David Bailey was all over the field today. He collapsed the pocket multiple times, had a “sack” of Geno Smith and showed out in the run game. He blew up a running play by beating his man (Armand Membou) into the backfield. And he blew up a “jet sweep” (Omar Cooper) as he kept containment on the backside of the run
• Nice to see the disappearance of the vanilla defense run by Steve Wilks
Offense Notes
• Tons of multiple TE formations were deployed and a lot of “jet sweeps” from different positions
• Good days from the starting WR’s (Garrett Wilson & Adonai Mitchell), Showing excellent chemistry with Geno Smith and making multiple tight window catches
• Smith and Omar Cooper need to work on their chemistry. There was miss on a 20+ yard seam route that should’ve been a big gain
• Kenyon Sadiq was deployed all over the field and made plays all day. Catching screens, crossers, being used in “jet sweeps” and catching a TD from Bailey Zappe
• After a rough early start the RB’s (Breece Hall, Braelon Allen & Isaiah Davis) made plays later in practice
QB Notes
• As noted before a good day from Geno Smith as made multiple tight window sideline throws to Wilson & Mitchell
• Cade Klubnik replicated Smith’s day by making multiple tight window sideline throws. His went to Mason Taylor, Arian Smith and Jamaal Pritchett. He doesn’t look like a rookie so far
I wonder what each side was working on today. The note about a lot of heavy packages (lots of tightends) suggests they were installing tightend-heavy personnels and formations. I also wonder what the defense has installed versus what the offense has installed, as what each unit is working on and what each unit has installed will dictate who "wins" the day. I don't get the impression NFL teams are practicing with their 1s vs 1s. You'd usually expect 1s to go against 2s (except for in live competition periods). They're repping in those 1s v 2s periods and trying to add some spice and competition to practice in those 1s v 1s periods, so it's fair to wonder how those little intricacies of training camp impact what the onlookers are seeing.
Also, the absolute best days of camp were the ones where we learned that a practice previously designated as "Full" turned into "shells."
In the Jets' case the 1s are practicing against the 1s because they talked about Bailey beating Membou, Fashanu and Breece to get to Geno. That may change on Monday, but at least the last two days the 1s have been going against the 1s and the 2s must have been going against the 2s.
I'm probably thinking more about those periods where they're getting reps in (we used to refer to those as "team" periods). Notice the small number of actual reps from the quarterbacks. It isn't that they only had that many reps the entire practice, but those were only the reps that were in the competitive periods. They probably had larger teams periods of repping their stuff over and over again against 3s and 2s.
I love seeing the drill the receivers were working. It makes you wonder from where his drops issue stems. This could be me reading into the specific drill, but he didn't tuck the football away. He continued holding the ball out away from his body as he started to run, which results in a "drop." I think in this case, that kind of mistake can lead to more fumbles than drops. If anything, the coaching afterwards and the speed with which the reps were happening is encouraging. They're running quick, efficient drills and periods while getting into the actual coaching and correcting during film sessions afterwards. Love to see that. Anywho...one of his issues is there for the teaching. It just depends on how he is putting the extra work in mentally and physically to solve it.
These are today's camp notes from KRL of Jets Nation.

I'd love to have him, but I don't think they'd trade him.
2025 was difficult and it seems like he has the yips right now.
But 2024 he had just 1 drop and he had a 6.1% drop rate at OSU, higher than you'd ideally want but nothing like we saw in 2025.
