Great conversation here by all who took the time. Interesting differences in opinion that all make sense. That’s unusual as in most cases someone is usually obviously wrong. I could make a good argument in favor of each point or comment made. 👍
Absolutely Ron. Love seeing the different points of view and everyone is here for the same reason, the love of the Jets and so it's good old fashioned respectful debate....something that's been lost a little bit in the internet age.
If you get the opportunity check in on our FB group. Old Time Jets Guys. Been doing it for 15 years. Obviously not all on FB as it’s not that old😂 We post and discuss your newsletter everyday. By far the most popular one any of us has come across. Keep up the good work.
I have to take issue with your calling Wilson our "franchise" quarterback. I believe that being dubbed the franchise requires having achieving some sustained success which certainly disqualifies Wilson. The franchise's hope, maybe but hardly the franchise.
You're right. When I say franchise QB I mean more how the organization view him, rather than me saying he's done enough to earnt that role. The simple truth for the powers that be is that both Douglas and Saleh have hitched their wagons to Wilson, if he's not a franchise QB then it's likely both of them may be looking for new jobs within a couple of years.
Not to state the obvious, but the #1 objective for the off-season has to be settling the starting tackle positions for the long-term. I don't see any possible way the Jets will rely on Becton to be one of the starters, and suddenly there seem to be real questions about Fant. This has to get fixed.
You're right Rich. It's a shame because we seem to have to focus on offensive line every year at the moment. You absolutely can't rely on Becton, if he comes back and offers anything that's an added bonus. Fant will be a FA and his price is plummeting at the moment, Jets will have to think long and hard about offering him an extension. Outside of the tackles you have Connor McGovern who's also set to be a FA this off-season and while a lot of people don't rate him, he's largely quite steady...especially in comparison to the tackle carousel, so maybe it would be wise to maintain some consistency in the heart of that line.
I do infact blame Douglas for the mess - He tok a chance on bectum and didnt hedge his bet with a backup plan. Turns out drafting Gardiner ( as good as he is) was not the way to go - needed a lineman. 4 years and he still cant build a offsnese line injuries or not - he is simply not doing homewark or something to kepp hgetting these injuries
I personally just can't blame him for not taking a lineman at #4 overall, he took Max Mitchell and so far he's outperforming both tackles available at that spot (Neal and Ekwonu). Should we have double dipped on tackles? Potentially but we had other areas to fill. If Brown returns next week and has a reasonably good season and Mitchell continues to improve as we've seen and Sauce just carries on being Sauce, we could look back at that as the right decision.
It doesn't change the fact that we need to address OT this off-season though, I absolutely agree there.
I hope the CS are cycling through every option other than playing McDermott at LT on Sunday...whether that be ramping up Ogbuehi's conditioning to get him ready or promoting Hermanns or even shifting AVT to LT (he has played there in the past, right ?) and putting Herbig in as RG cos the thought of McDermott protecting Zach's blind side scares me to death, he may as well not have been there on Sunday for all the use he was...
George Fant fan here. Pretty old school but admire George’s effort going out there, with a balky knee, in a contract year, a real team guy, and of course there is the constant flip flop between RT and LT, just a very good pro. Grant Hermann >>> McDermott.
Find it very curious that draft status lingers throughout a players career. Remmers is an undrafted FA, and Cedric is a first rounder. This article makes it very clear that Remmers body of work makes him the better prospect but as a fan , holding out for that untapped potential of Cedric, I’m nuts.
I'm with you JO, I have a lot of time for Fant and what he's done for us by constantly switching. Especially this year where he's in a contract year. It'll be interesting to see how the Jets handle his contract negotiation and whether Douglas tries to tie him down while the value is low.
Yeah I would put my faith in Remmers over Cedric personally, Obviously I haven't seen a ton of Cedric because he just hasn't played a lot recently, but the numbers seem to indicate that Remmers, while having some tough games at the worst time, is a more reliable tackle.
Ogbuehi would have played on the same roster as Duane Brown for a period of time. Is it possible that Brown might have a positive view of him as a squad member that could have influenced the decision to get him in?
Have to take issue with your interpretation of Saleh's comments.
What he said was that there are 6-7 miscommunications per game for every team in the NFL. The Jets have been unlucky in that 2 of those have resulted on touchdowns.
He did not at any point say that the miscommunications were down to bad luck.
The vast majority of miscommunications result in normal play (missed by the offense, play design going to other side of pitch, run play on a cover error) or a chunk play. They don't often result in TDs.
He also emphasised that they have been happening on 3rd downs mostly and stressed that the whole team and coaching staff need to be better on 3rd downs.
I'm going to disagree back there Paul, as you knew I would I'm sure 😉
I don't think it's bad luck that the missed communications are in the red zone, the reason most teams don't have these issues is because their better coached in terms of situational football and coordinators go with playcalls in the red zone that they're comfortable with in terms of execution. The fact that Reed said it should be a players and coaching meeting indicates they're not on the same page.
I also take a little issue with that comment by Saleh that every team has 6-7 of these a week, that's something you can say to ease the pressure on yourself that nobody really can validate, I watch a ridiculous amount of football (my wife's words not mine) and I just don't see that in action, and if they are all coming on 3rd down and in the red zone that's a huge coaching issue. His explanation of the personal penalties coating the Jets was horrible in terms of accountability.
I'm a Saleh guy but I don't agree with your assessment of his comments, but the world would be very boring if we all agreed 😂
So, you want Saleh to air all the dirty laundry in public and throw players and coaches under the bus?
What he said was accurate and deliberately moved fan and press focus off the players and on to himself (obviously he studied at the Fergie school of press relations!). Now, if you believe that Saleh is saying the same things in private to his staff and players then THAT is a problem. If you believe that he is not working to correct these issues (despite his highlighting when they happen and emphasising the need for the whole club to improve at those times) then the Jets have a huge problem.
Personally, I don't think Saleh is that stupid or that bad a leader.

Gotcha. Unfortunately for Coach and the big fella, I sense a falling star not a shooting star. We'll see

Hardly passing it all off as bad luck.
