Good morning ☕
Today I'm celebrating my wife's birthday and with the NFL being at a standstill we're going to skip the newsletter today and move on to Wednesday.
Four player contracts hit their void date so Duane Brown, Carl Lawson, Quinton Jefferson and Jordan Whitehead will test free agency next month, and they'll also carry $15.8 million of dead cap. Three of those players suffered injuries last year and Whitehead has been a point of contention across his contract. Brown and Lawson are almost certainly gone, Jefferson was playing well until his injury so re-signing him makes a lot of sense. Whitehead is the big question mark, but I imagine a lot of Jets fans wouldn't mind moving on.
Outside of that, we have a lot of mock drafts and not much else. We are getting closer to the scouting combine and that at least offers some insights and plenty of overreactions.
But here is something to discuss. The Packers are likely going to cut left tackle David Bakhtiari based on his salary and his injury issues. Would you sign him if you were the Jets? He'll almost certainly be linked, he'll almost certainly be considered. But would he make any sense?

the Jets have done a lot of stupid things these last few years and signing Bhaktiari would be the topper. Having lived the Mekhi Becton experience one would assume they would know better than to bring in a guy that spends more time at the hospital than on the playing field. Yup, Aaron will say “ I want him” and JD will say “yes sir”! Done deal. And yes, this would be so Jet like!
David, first off Happy Birthday to the Mrs.. She has to be a great wife to put up with you being a Jet fan and for you writing a Jet column.
I think all of your posters here who are married, there wives suffer from some form of Post Jet Dysfunction Syndrome, attributed to the fact that their husbands are Jet fans.
To you Mrs. Hupton, 🎂🥂💍.
Based on him missing 41 of a possible 56 games the last 4 seasons and his age 32, is Bakhtiari really an option even on a minimum prove it contract.
Let’s leave the opinion of certain people in the Jet organization out of the equation, would any winning football team actually sign a player with an injury history as this one and at his age.
Whitehead misses too many tackles and gave up 7 td passes to lead all NFL safeties this past season., hopefully Clark has recovered from his injury, him plus Ashtyn Davis could possibly be an improvement. There is also the draft.
