I know what you’re thinking, a newsletter on a Sunday? Madness. Well, it’s not officially a newsletter.

The conversation in the comments is always one of the best parts of any newsletter, and it makes sense to have that conversation flowing during the game.

So from now on, I’ll be posting a quick newsletter every Sunday (when there are games), which can act as a place for us to discuss everything leading up to the game and then the game itself.

We’ve got a few things to touch on today, so let’s go.

Let’s start with the biggest news.

Left tackle Duane Brown heading to IR

Just 24 hours after Robert Saleh said he felt good about Brown playing today, we heard that the veteran tackle was heading to IR, meaning he’ll miss at least 4 games.

Joe Douglas bet on a 38-year-old tackle coming off major surgery with no practice time during the summer… it's backfired in a big way.

Brown has been poor to start the year and now he’s heading to IR, unless the Jets shuffle the pack, we don’t have a good replacement.

Here are the options for Robert Saleh:

1. Just play Billy Turner at left tackle and keep the rest of the line intact. In over 5,000 career snaps, Turner played just 263 of them at LT. That’s around 4 games worth in 9 years.

2. Move Mekhi Becton to left tackle and play Billy Turner at RT (over 2,000 snaps of experience there).

3. Move Mekhi Becton to left tackle and play Max Mitchell at RT.

4. Move Mekhi Becton to left tackle, move AVT to RT and play Joe Tippmann as the RG.

5. Keep Mekhi Becton at right tackle and play AVT at LT.

I would actually opt for number 4 on that list. Let’s get Joe Tippmann into the lineup, Becton plays the spot he was drafted to play and AVT goes to RT where he played well in 2022. AVT didn’t play any RT while at USC, but I thought he looked pretty good out there last year.

OL Chris Glaser elevated from the Practice Squad

Weather

Plenty of rain throughout, and some wind but it seems to be around 10-12mph. The rain is going to be the biggest factor for the weather today, we should see a physical ground game, but let’s wait and see.
