Working on little sleep I forgot to add a few things.

1) I don't like the fact that Corley left the locker room before the media arrived. When you make a mistake it's important that you own it, apologise for it and learn from it. Running and hiding says to be that you may not be mentally tough enough to make it in the NFL or NY.

2) Eric Watts is a very lucky boy. Another very dumb penalty that fortunately worked out for us with the usually reliable Ka'imi Fairbairn missing a chip-shot 27-yard kick. We were due for some FG luck to swing our way tonight, so I'll take it...but we can't afford those dumb penalties.

3) Speaking of which, Irvin Charles had one running into the kicker early in the game. Didn't hurt us, but again that's a dumb drive extending penalty. Believe that was the drive with the Stroud fumble in the red-zone, so again we got lucky.

4) For as bad as Rodgers was in the first half (32 passing yards) give him credit for that second half (15 of 18 passes for 179 yards and three TDs.).

Please can we get a break from these primetime games lol Think that's all I missed.

David, is it not possible that Corley left the locker room early because he was so unhappy with himself, or possibly had a family situation? I agree that if he left just to avoid the media, then that was another mistake and he'll need to learn from that. I believe the NFL might fine him for that as well. As far as his possibly not be mentally tough enough to play in the NFL, that's a HUMONGOUS stretch/leap, my friend. I'm going to chalk that one up to your little sleep, because that's out of character for you to make a wild, crazy leap like that based on solely one incident where you don't even have all the facts. With his playing style, I think it totally preoposterous to even suggest that he isn't mentally tough enough to play in the NFL.

First. as I said a few days ago, I had a strong hunch they wud win this game. I said I wasn't going to watch it and didn't untiI I found out they won and read about it. That being said, I only watched the 2nd half as I wud have been in misery watching the 1st half. And as I have said previously, I watch it in the 40 minute condensed version living here in Asia. That has minimized to a certain degree the pain from watching these games. They did look pretty gud in the 2nd half, however in my mind not excellent. At least not like a playoff calibre team. Mixon ran for over 100 yards and they were playing without their 2 best receivers and it still seemed like they were doing well thru the air. Yes, Quinnen seems to be playing better and maybe that's because of the Reddick effect. Unless they win their next 4 games I think their season is over, however even if they don't, they will occasionally tease us with glimpses of a well functioning team. So we will see. At least for awhile longer, I will not watch these games until I know the final score. I guess I am still a bit traumatized :)

I'll refrain from negative criticism just to allow everyone to enjoy this win. I agree with most, I'm not hopeful in a run of wins and won't get too excited but I won't complain if we eventually go on a streak. But we got the first win in a while. We only need to go 1-0 each week.

I want to shout out Morestead for that 70+ yard punt to pin them in the 2. He can't play the defense to stop the other team from scoring but the man continues to do everything he can to help.

Olu was huge. GW used his hands on every catch and was astounding. Glad Adams cleared concussion protocol to get his first TD. Our LBs along with DJ played their tails off. Our IDL played well when WMD and Reddick were together. But also everyone else in the DL played a part, even the guy we constantly call out.

A good win. But let's get more.

Absolutely spot on with the Morestead praise, he had another good directional kick in the first half which went out around the 12 as well. In a season that has seen the special teams unit criticised and for good reason, we haven't really had to speak about Morestead which is a good thing. Last night he was superb, another bit I missed.

This will be forever known as "The Two Doink" game. First one with the Jets new new kicker - a Doink for a PAT that actually goes in ! Then a Unsportsman Like penalty for taking out the opposing snapper (who ever heard of that one. That penalty set up the second FG Doink by The Texans and set the Jets on their way to vistory. I called the Victory last night. You heard here first The Jets are going to win the next won Beating the Cards

Hope so Steve. You beat the Cards and then come home to face the Colts and Seahawks with a chance to get back to .500...well let's take one game at a time, but I'd rather win than lose.

Interesting tidbit - in 2023 after losing 5 in a row, we overcame a slow first half to beat Houston last year, in the rain. I wanted to revisit the game but I don't think YouTubeTV saved LY's games on my profile (bummer, because I would keep those games on DirecTV's hard drive for a year or so).

Nice win and Wilson is a great receiver. I will not allow hope, I will watch and if we get to 500 then maybe I will have some hope. The Jets have crushed the hope of fans too many times. One win is nice but doesn’t make up for the misery they have served up this season so far. So Jets, just keep winning.

Think that's really wise Scott. I think it's possible but not likely and I'm just going to enjoy this win for a few days and start the cycle of hoping we get to enjoy a win against next week.

I'm glad for the win, but there are still a lot of things to clean up. Missed tackles were some of the worst that I have ever seen, with Sauce being the worst culprit. Bart Scott on Jets Postgame described exactly how bad his technique is and how it could cause him a bad injury. maybe the same person that straightened out Clemons should have a talk with Sauce, lol. I don't believe he's afraid to tackle, but he just seems to be at odds with his whole game right now, maybe it's a Junior Jinx since he didn't have a bad 2nd year. He could also stand to put on a couple of pounds. Well, it's 10 days to Arizona and we shall see what we shall see.

One other thing I will say is that St. Rogers really needs to get himself straight, he showed what he can do during those three drives the Jets scored on. There's no reason it can't happen on a regular basis. Another thing is that Breece seems to have lost a step, he's not accelerating and running through tackles like he did. It's something to keep an eye on.

Absolutely agree Mike. This wasn't a perfect performance but with the talent we have we don't have to always be perfect to win, we just can't be downright awful which we were against the likes of Denver and New England.

Sauce looks to be mentally questioning everything. He's in his head and someone needs to get him to just play freely again. His form is awful. I think this off-season we'll see if he's happy just being a good corner or if he wants to be the best. If he wants to be the best, that tackling issue needs to get resolved.

Expand full comment

You just hit the nail on the head about Sauce, he's mentally questioning everything, which is bad. And I don't see why he has to always get so grabby; he has the physical talent to stay with any receiver in the league, but his questioning himself pushes him to gain some extra edge that he doesn't have to do.

A few quick thoughts

You have to give the devil his due, Clemons came to play last night, 2 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble.

Quite possibly, Sherwood punched Mosely’s retirement ticket, he had 7 tackles and 2 sacks.

Rookie Leonard Taylor only had two tackles but his # 96 was very active when he was on the field.

As far as Corley goes, it was overlooked in the beginning of the year when he went to the press complaining about playing time. Running out of the locker shows a total lack of maturity. Hey kid, you can’t have it both ways. You are not playing in Bowling Green Kentucky anymore, the Bowling Green Herald Leader isn’t here to cover for you.

By walking out, you just put a big 🎯 on your back.

You made a mistake, man up, just don’t do it again.

Kind of shocked the Jets didn’t try to get the ball to him, to show they still had confidence in him. The Texans never knew what hit him.

Surprised, Corley dropped the ball so casually. Rookies never let go of their first td ball.

Ironically, twice before during a Monday night game, wide receivers have done the exact same thing

In 1971, Steeler second year wide receiver Dave Smith got confused and dropped the ball after crossing the 5 yard line running to the end zone. Steelers got beat by over 21.

Howard Cosell had a field day with that one.

Desean Jackson, rookie year, did the same thing crossing the goal line. Luckily the ball rolled out of bounds, Brian Westbrook got a one yard touchdown run out of it, in a 38-14 loss.

Kudos to Prime for showing fans in the stands wearing paper bags over their heads. One good picture is worth a thousand words, they showed many fans with bags over their heads last night, thousands and thousands of words.

Must have felt uncomfortable Woody when the chorus started in the second quarter

“ Sell the team”

“ Sell the team”

Bobber, Leonard Taylor is a baller. He looks good when he’s in there. Had a nice tackle for loss Ashe toddled the blocker aside and lifted Mixon up like a sack of potatoes. Saw McGregor in in a few nice rushes as well. Interesting they had all three UDFA’s active. The O-line situation will be interesting going forward with out three top Guards all injured. The @0 day brake should be helpful.

I agree Ron, Leonard Taylor is a baller. This is still a learning experience for him, but he just seems to create havoc in his limited snaps. As long as he doesn't slip up, he should turn into a very serviceable member of the D-line. And MacGregor didn't look bad out there either. The jury is still out on Watts, but he could develop also, we'll have to see. They need a solid run-stuffer so badly it's pathetic. That middle of the line is just porous, I mean there are holes I could get 5 or 6 yards on, lol. It's more a scheme thing than anything else. Old McDonald is impressing me more and more with every game and HR is a complete and utter boob for not reporting until now. But he can wreak havoc, though he did get piledriven a couple of times. He definitely would have had a big impact on the field.

And I'm shocked, shocked that gambling.............I mean that Mitchell and Olu held up as well as they did at guard. And that penalty on Olu when St. Rogers scrambled to the 2-yard line was bogus. Mitchell got rocked a couple of times, but he stood tall when needed.

I forgot about commenting about Clemons. Where did that come from? Did he actually look quick? :)

He did look pretty sharp on that late 4th quarter sack, that was a big time play.

Maybe someone talked to him like a Dutch Uncle and slapped him upside the head, lol. But that play was impressive, and Stroud looked scared crapless, lol.

David, so with Mitchell and Olu in at Guard most of the 2nd half we were down to the # 5 and 6 options which is incredible as Olu had never taken a snap at guard ever. They did a great job there. And you’re right, that hold on Olu was BS. He never extended his arms outside his torso so that’s not a hold. Blocker grab the defenders jersey every play and as long as the arms are not extended outside the body it’s never called.

Absolutely. Huge praise for Olu and for Joe Tippmann who was apparently telling Fashanu what to do on every snap. We'll have to wait and see how serious the injury to Simpson is and how serious that AVT one is, but I'd quite like to see Fashanu in there at guard again against the Cardinals.

yeah, and Mitchell did well to. I thought moving him inside might be best for him as his lack of lateral quickness was exposed outside.

True, his pass-pro seemed to hold up better in smaller quarters, but he needs to work on run blocking.

David, excellent post as always. I'm really happy for you, the "guys" here (not sure if everyone who reads or post here is a male, and all Jets fans. Sadly, I can find no joy in it. My love for the Jets is dead, at least for now. I think this will prove to be nothing more than a teaser to show what could have been.

I'm happy that Wilson had a great game, that Corley finally got to play, but sad that he screwed up and dropped the ball at the goal line.. I hope that he learns from it.

I'm amazed that Fashanu played OG and played well, that Mitchell played well, and that Smith and Moses finally played well in the same game. Again, we'll see if it was just a one-time thing, or if it will continue.

If everyone else got a sack last night, why didn't McDonald? Did he play? Was he injured or doubled the whole game or just have a bad game? I can't believe that Clemons had 2 sacks!!! On the one you included the video of, it look liked like was playing DT and was shot of a cannon or had a rocket up his ass.

Enjoy win, all. I have a strong suspicion that next week, they'll lose miserably again.

I think McDonald, and HR, caused a lot of havoc outside that led to the sacks inside, such as Sherwood's. He was a beast out there and I think CJ is out of a job. I can see CJ becoming a coach. I think he would have good instincts as a teacher. Physically, he is a detriment to the LB corps. But Sherwood seems to be picking up the knack of making defensive calls and has done a very creditable job.

Absolutely Mike, I would say that McDonald was one of the best players on the field, he was a constant menace and beat the tackles consistently. He constantly forced Stroud to step up, believe he forced him into at least 2 sacks and moved him off his mark frequently resulting in some poor throws. One of those games where the box score didn't do his performance justice. Genuinely believe we're seeing the emergence of an absolute star.

Expand full comment

You could be right, but he's still a liability against the run, as is HR. They both got rag-dolled multiple times. And that is where JD completely screwed the pooch with the JFM trade. I've seen some reports that the trade had something to do with the deal sending Zach Wilson to the Broncos, as an added sweetener to the pot, but who knows the real story. But his absence, coupled with JJ's injury, has really hurt the run defense badly. And even though he eventually reported, HR is a real dumbass for not reporting for OTA's and TC. His presence could have possibly helped the Jets during the losing streak AND maybe made his performance bonuses. You can lead a mule to water, but sometimes you need to use a 2x4 to get their attention, lol.
