Yesterday was a sad day if you are a Jet fan. Not because they won hurting their draft position, it didn’t but because the offense finally showed what they were capable of doing with Rodgers.
Yesterday’s performance is what danced through most Jet fan minds when Rodgers was acquired. What took so long.
You can’t criticize who it was done against because to the best of my knowledge asterisks aren’t put next to game stats in the NFL record books.
Two of the best defenses in the NFL yesterday, the Lions and Bills surrendered 90 points between themselves and 1080 total yards, no asterisks.
A few remarks on X ( formerly known as Twitter) yesterday as the game was being played.
I’m paraphrasing
Lazard is still Mr Dropsies
The Jets are still doing stupid, undisciplined things. Surratt was saved from an unsportsmanlike penalty by a Jaguar timeout at a crucial time in the game.
The Jets are throwing 73% of the time in the red zone, possibly the reason they have a hard time scoring tds there.
Supposedly the Jets had Corley rated higher than Brian Thomas Jr before the draft, you add any comment you want.
Why were the Jets in such a hurry to score at the end of the game, they could have used up time and Jaguars timeouts. Yes, I understand they might have screwed up but highly coached, disciplined teams don’t screw up.
I think the Fashanu Bowers draft debate can finally be put to rest. The Jets appeared to be set at left offensive tackle for the next 8-10 years.
Finally, David introduced us to Liam Coen last week.
Before yesterday’s Buccaneers Chargers game, the Chargers were giving up 15.9 points a game, lowest total I the NFL.
Bucs beat them 40-17.
Again from X
Bucs quarterback Baker
Mayfield: "I could only imagine what it's like for a defensive coordinator to scheme against us." He cited all the different personnel groupings Liam Coen incorporates.
The Bucs had 506 yards total offense -- the third-most yards allowed by a Jim Harbaugh team in his NFL coaching career, behind the 520 surrendered to the Patriots in 2012 and the 513 at the Eagles in 2011. Just three games where Harbaugh has allowed 500 yards of offense.
David might have something here. It takes a Hackett led offense about 2-2 1/2 games to get 500 total yards.
A sad day for television watchers this weekend.
Two iconic tv family dramas were put to rest.
The Regan family of Blue Bloods and the John Dutton crew of Yellowstone.
The Dutton family name is still out there in other dramas but Yellowstone was the start of the Dutton tv dynasty.
I can't believe that you watched the game yesterday. You must be a masochist.
Exellent point on Coen. That makes him a more interesting and intriguing candidate.
If the Jets had Corley rated higher than Brian Thomas, then unless there's something about Thomas' character I don't know, that explains a lot about what's gone wrong with the Jets.
I am so pissed at CBS Blue Bloods was the best show on TV, one of the best ever, still highly rated, and they all wanted to keep doing the show. I hope whomever made that decision at CBS gets shitcanned. He certainly should. I'm hoping that Prime or Netflix will pick up the show, cast, and including the writers.
I’m a big reader. Not a book reader, my reading is more to find answers on any subject that piques my curiosity.
Usually tv shows that survive 5 seasons always have issues because actors want to get paid more.
I searched into the demise of Blue Bloods, money was far from top of the list.
The general belief, since no one will say why CBS yanked them was that CBS viewed the show too right wing, too pro cop, too catholic, too family oriented.
The irony of that thinking is what would anybody expect from a show that was about an Irish,Catholic, NYC police family.
Exactly !!! And the fact that it pretty much had good ratings throughout its run makes the reason all the more obvious. I used to drive by the house they used in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn as the family home all the time. It was about 5 minutes from where I went to high school.
CBS really screwed the pooch by cancelling Blue Bloods. It was the best show on TV, hands down. Second best cop show is Chicago PD, Jason Beghe is second only to Donnie Wahlberg as a lead character in a police procedural. And to think Beghe was supposed to be a throwaway character from Chicago Med, but he was so good they built a show around him.
We loved Blue Bloods but as a native NY’r and the son of a NYPD cop it was totally far fetched! Entertaining but completely unrealistic. Honestly Network TV is unwatchable. A hour show consists of at least 20 minutes of ads! The shows we do watch “Tracker” Elsbeth, Matlock and High Potential are all on the lighter side! My wife likes them so I’m stuck watching them😂 We do DVR them so we can skip the ads 😂
I know, my dad was NYPD for 30 years. I never watch network tv either. The stuff that I like I watch on streaming without commercials. Paramount+, Peacock and Hulu has most of my favorites.
I watched all except Lioness and Landman, which I will start soon. Landman looks like a real winner from some clips I saw on YouTube. My favorites are Tulsa King and mayor of Kingstown.
I'll always want the jets to win as many games as they can. Not because i am a season ticket holder but i like winning a whole lot better then losing. Esepcially if the win is a spoiler (like knocking the Giants out a long time ago. Also - i have friends who attend these away games all of the country - im not going to root for my team to lose and they have a bad time. I do understand some fans want thier team to lose for draft positioning. Its just not me Go Jets !
I doubt if that win really affected the Jets draft strategy that year because they were picking 14 there. Needing a wide receiver in the worst way, and with Andre Rison sitting there, the Jets reached for middle linebacker Jeff Lageman who couldn’t unseat Ron Alexander’s favorite player Kyle Clifton.
They tried Lageman at outside linebacker not fast enough to cover running backs put him at defensive end, left in free agency for Jacksonville. Played ten seasons.
After making the selection, Mel Kiper quipped “ evidently the NY Jets don’t know what the draft is about”
So win or lose, higher pick, lower pick, the Jets disappoint draft day
I think that's the ONLY thing that Mel Kiper has ever been right about regarding the draft. For the life of me, I can't understand how he still has a job.
I had a post all ready yesterday as the 4th quarter was winding down and the Jags had just tied the game it was like this “ The Jets are one of the most innovative teams in the NFL, always finding new ways to lose”. Then they finally found a way to win. I agree with David a win is good for the young guy that haven’t got to experience much winning and need to learn what it feels like, some of them will be Jets in the future and they need to develop a taste for winning and carry it with them going forward.
I think for someone like Wilson, it's super important. Watching his post-games this year he's looked so down trodden, he really cares and he wants to win so desperately.
As a former player and coach I’m always a competitive lunatic when the games in progress. Nobody likes loosing. But yesterday was another tough one as it didn’t take long for the taste of victory to spoil. I kind of have my sights set on a particular player in this upcoming draft( Mason Graham) and as he’s a lock to go by pick 5 I think our chances to get him ended with that win. Oh well, Cimini had an interesting column yesterday and it touched on our 3rd rd pick WR Malachi Corley. He was once again inactive as the Jets elevated Brandon Smith from the JV. ( practice squad😂) Unfortunately this is looking like yet another JD screwup because this guys skill set does not appear to fit well on this level. He was supposed to be the “YAC KING” but I’m not sure he’s broken one tackle this season. Granted he’s got maybe a little more than a dozen touches but hasn’t shown much. From what I’ve seen so far the speed and explosiveness seems kind of “eh”!
My bad, Downing, I spent the first half putting up outside Xmas decorations, it’s been either cold, rainy or windy here for what I needed to do second half was watchable
Yeah there were a few drops in there that probably would have raised that to around 60%, but he definitely still missed a few. I do wonder if he has a couple of good games down the stretch whether the Jets may be more likely to bring him back.
I always want the Jet to win regardless of draft position - earlier has not been better historically at top of draft.
Belicheat coming to Jets would be the last straw for me. I am already done with try Woody but this would have been the nail in the proverbial coffin. Still annoyed about firing JD.
While I would rather they have lost, I can't be upset since Rodgers and Adams had such a great 2nd half. Also, as you said, David, since this isn't the draft to take a QB early, the top 10 should give them some good players. Still, the OT, DT, WR or whatever player they really want could be gone by their pick. Those things matter even though some don't think they do.
Will the Riddick and Robinson interviews be conducted by Tanny and Spielman or Woody? Riddick is probably the only ESPN analyst that I'd be interested in interviewing. They should hopefully provide a good baseline for the further interviews, and it was good to go ahead and schedule those before the season was over. Let's just hope that they don't get bowled over by one of those interviews and rush into a decision.
I think Belichick was just playing the Jets. If he was serious, it was because no other NFL team would have him. I think he would either have taken the job and intentionally tanked the Jets or done something to get them fined heavily, or as you suggested, would have pulled out at the last minute. I'm fully expecting UNC to get the death penalty from the NCAA within his first year. I can't see his personality and coaching style working with recent high school kids. I don't know what the idiots at UNC were smoking or drinking when they made the decision to hire him, but I hope it's every bit the disaster that I think it will be. Even though I'm from NC and live there now, I hate UNC. I hope he goes winless. LOL
I don't believe thay the team from the 33rd team will be involved in the actual interviews. They are there for background checks, stats, data support etc.

Did you watch Day of the Jackel
Plus On Paramount plus
1883, 1923, mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Tulsa King and now Landman
I watched all except Lioness and Landman, which I will start soon. Landman looks like a real winner from some clips I saw on YouTube. My favorites are Tulsa King and mayor of Kingstown.

The 87 finale when Toon caught the winning td with about 30 seconds to play knocking the Giants out of the playoffs was classic.
Thats the one - totally agree !
I screwed up, that was in 1988.
I doubt if that win really affected the Jets draft strategy that year because they were picking 14 there. Yes rght 1988 - the infamous Lageman pick - how that was thier pick was ridiculous
I had a post all ready yesterday as the 4th quarter was winding down and the Jags had just tied the game it was like this “ The Jets are one of the most innovative teams in the NFL, always finding new ways to lose”. He’s a power running back body stuck in the wide receiver position.
Unfortunately as Jet fans when the player fails we blame the player or the shortsightedness of the GM who drafted him.
With the supposed bad quarterbacks drafted by the Jets since Geno, Sam and Zach?
We fans have been now forced to admit that it wasnt the player or GM but the coaching staff.
Could Corley be successful in KC or Detroit or Buffalo, I would say probably.
Corley has had to deal with Hackett and Peterson and all, enough said
Who is Peterson? Do you mean Downing?
My bad, Downing, I spent the first half putting up outside Xmas decorations, it’s been either cold, rainy or windy here for what I needed to do second half was watchable
Bobber, absolutely my man! Time will tell on Corley. For now the jury heeds more time to reach a verdict 😂
Yes. I forgot to say that in my initial post. That's the only thing about the win that makes me happy. I'm glad that the young Jets got another win.
David, as u said, with all the protection Rodgers had, he still only completed 53% of his passes. That to me is the most telling statistic.
Yeah there were a few drops in there that probably would have raised that to around 60%, but he definitely still missed a few. I do wonder if he has a couple of good games down the stretch whether the Jets may be more likely to bring him back.

Did you guys see that Albert Breer has predicted that Brian Gaine (Bills) will be the new GM and Aaron Glenn will be the new HC?
According to Heavy on the Jets, the Jets have interviewed former Atlanta Falcons' GM Thomas Dimitroff.
While I would rather they have lost, I can't be upset since Rodgers and Adams had such a great 2nd half. So does that mean that Woody will make the decision? We r in trouble. once again.
OK, thanks, David!
