Good morning Jet fans. Well another one bites the dust. It seems like a lot of free agent targets are still electing to go elsewhere. In this case I think it’s for the best. $18 million for a part time role player would have been a poor investment. I posted this thought in a couple of Jet FB groups and was challenged by people saying he was not a roll player. Perhaps not. But if your a coaching staff that values the health and well bing of your players than he’s a roll player. I’m not putting Odell out there in a full time starters roll because he is coming off two ACL surgeries. That’s a lot for anyone but especially for a player over 30 who makes his living running pass patterns that require intricate cuts that put tremendous stress on the knees. I enjoy you posting little blips on some of these less heralded prospects. I had read a little on Shepherds QB Tyson Badget. A lot of people like him as a late round UDFA QB option. He’s got some NFL shills. Very competitive guy. Having watched some of his video you can’t help but notice their OT Fischer. I think he would look great in green and white as a developmental 5 th or 6th round option. As always David, be well and thanks for yet another excellent read!👍
18 million for a player who has torn the same ACL twice is a lot of risk. Add the in the fact his age and his penchant for complaining on his target amount, the Ravens probably did the Jets a favor. Taking targets away from Garrett Wilson would have been criminal. I realize a different wr would take targets away from Wilson but maybe not as many and without the moaning. Could Corey Davis be kept on a reworked contract, Mims?
As per Cimini, Jets have some high hopes for practice squad player Irvin Charles.
It’s possible that Becton could be the key to drafting Schmitz, if The Jets deem Becton healthy and ready to play, 13 is too high to draft a center but Becton healthy would put the Jets in a position to trade down a few spots and pickup extra draft capital.. Linderbaum considered the class of the 2022 center class was taken 25th.
If your argument is that Becton is not reliable due to injury situations the last two years then the same argument could be used about Beckham.
Absolutely agree on Beckham, I thought he'd sign for between $10-$12 million with the Guarantees at around $7-$8 million, so this was far too rich for me. Ravens signed him to be WR1 on that squad, we were looking at him as WR2/3 with Wilson being the first read on a lot of plays. I'd have liked to see Beckham in green, but I won't be losing any sleep around it.
I profiled Irvin Charles last year after speaking to his college coach, probably a good time to re-post that piece just in case people missed it or weren't subscribed at the time.
Bobber, well done. I think you covered it well. Charles is an interesting kid. He’s older ( I believe 25,26?) because he had to do the JC thing but I could tell the Jets were trying to limit his exposure in preseason to keep him under the radar. One of our FB group members has a relative that worked in the Jet organization and still has connections there. He speaks highly of Irving Charles. They do like him.
I agree whole heartedly, Irvin Charles could really be a big find down the line. I think he will show the NFL what he can really do during training camp and the pre-season. He has all the physical tools.
Astonished at the price of OBJ , for all the points you listed. Highlights the value of Corey Davis at 11 million, the WR market is nuts. Special Teams ability could help Irvin Charles make the 53. Schmidtz makes too much sense.. Draft scenario of the day, Jets send 13 to Tampa Bay ( draft Will Levits QB ) Jets receive 19, a third round pick in 2023 & 2024 ( think 2024 Comp for Rodgers). Jets pick JM Schmidtz at 19 , & OT Jaelyn Duncan at 43.
Jets with only 5 picks, UNDFA’s becomes even more important, guys like OT Joey Fisher from Shepard. This is the third year that Douglas has had his scouting team together, great production last year, need to continue the trend, uncover two maybe even three UNDFA’s for the PS. Shepherd as an outstanding QB, in Tyler Bagent, Draftable on the third day.
Absolutely JO. I've been consistently thinking that Corey Davis will be shipped out, but with injuries and depth being so important, there is a world we could keep him at his current cap hit, or if they really liked him they could extend him a year and restructure to lower it, although not sure what his incentive would be.
I'm a big fan of looking at UDFA's, I actually find them more interesting than the highly touted guy and Fisher was really interesting from what I saw, going to do some more digging later this week.
The Jets really have had a lot of success with UDFA's over the years and I think this year will be no different. They seem to find one or two real good nuggets every year or so. I'm confident they will hit on at least one this year.
If you want to run the ball wide, Corey Davis & Lazard provide a great blocking WR duo. Hackett seems to embrace this trend of big WR’s in the slot. Allen Lazard had 42% of his snaps out of the slot in Green Bay.
I always had a sneaking suspicion that Corey Davis would be here this season. I know it's a big if, but if he is healthy, his talents are a bargain at $11M and he is a big help in the run game. Together, he and Lazard make one of the better run-blocking WR duos in the league. The Jets receiver room is excellent on paper, with Mims the only real enigma. Wilson, Lazard, Davis, Hardman, Mims (?) and maybe Irvin Charles. If Charles does prove his worth, the Jets could have one of the best receiver rooms in the league.
JO, Tyson Bagent. I think he is draftable but later. I think he’s physically more gifted than guys like Tune, Hall, O’Connell or the TCU kid. The key would be patience. He would probably have to be on the 53 to avoid loosing him if he looks really good in camp. That would be tough if the Jets truly don’t like the idea of Zack really being QB2. I know I don’t 😂🤣
This Beckham deal doesn't surprise me in the least. I never thought that he would ever sign with the Jets. He's another prima donna who is looking for his last big payday before the end of his career. He knew the Jets couldn't give him the deal that he wants all along and I feel he used the hype as a way to get someone else to give him what he wants.
And I also didn't think he come because, in his mindset he always has to be the primary receiver, and he wouldn't have been here, and he would have been a disruption. I think Hardman is going to do fine here and he has similar traits to Beckham as far as his physical makeup is concerned. The Ravens must have been really desperate.
and also, regarding keeping Corey Davis, I was initially thinking he was gone for cap reasons. I still think he might be trade bait, maybe even Lawson as well, as JD likes his draft picks - but considering the monopoly $ being handed for WRs, Corey is a good deal and a known commodity.
PS: and how about Tyreek Hill taking his $ and walkin? the phish hamstrung their options in getting TH his prima donna contract ("... I am the best and wanna be PAID like the best!..."). Better them than us.
Of course, I could be eatin my own words next year if AR decides to diddi-bop after just one year at the helm.
You could be right, though I don't know about Davis or Lawson being traded. I don't remember if they reworked Lawson's contract to extend it out or not yet. That may be a sticking point in a trade, and it might still have ramifications going forward. I'm not as qualified as most of you guys on contract situations. As far as AR is concerned, unless he has a massive year and the Jets make it to the big game, he's gone next year. And as a longtime Jets fan, I don't see that happening.
I still feel all the rhetoric about putting everything in this year to maybe make it to the playoffs is wrong. Last year's "playoff run" was a mirage in my opinion and the Jets were never going to get there, and Hall and AVT's injuries sealed the deal for me. Having Woodhead as an owner brings its own set of problems. I think there is a verrrrrrry slim chance of Zack pulling his cranium out of his posterior, but just dumping him isn't a good move. If he shows nothing next year, then adios. I would still take a developmental QB this year in the draft.
Tanner McKee - looks like a 3rd round prospect, I can see JD makin some moves with Corey, getting another good draft pick and packaging it as needed to get this kid.
fm the scouting: 2.49sec avg release time (he runs Pro style offence in Stanford); strong arm, very accurate.
CGVet58. Most of the reports label him a pure pocket passer in the Flacco/White category. I’m not sure that entirely the case but he’s definitely not what most teams view as today’s prototype. If he’s there in round 4 I would think he’d be a strong consideration. We need a better option than Zach!
Oh, I really think he was coming here. But we all know JD was never going anywhere near that $15 million area. I think JD was going to be in the 8 to 10 range with incentives that might bring him up to maybe $10 to 12? Frankly, for the role he would have had here that would have been more than fair.
Hey David & rest of Jets fans (imho, simply Da Best and most Loyal Fan Base dere is!!!)
two words: Draft Fisher!

David, I had trouble finding video on him. If you know where I can get it please let me know. Thanks!
Here are some highlights of him playing RT in 2021. It's an enjoyable watch

Brock Purdy & Zappe opened the door. Bagent played a lot of QB 4 years + A COVID year
