Geno Smith Update
Edition #1209: There is positive news in the Geno Smith legal case as we count down the days to training camp.

Yes I’m full of nerves today despite the kick-off to England v Argentina being over 9 hours away. It’s one of the fiercest rivalries in world sport. The odds will be stacked against us, and I’m not expecting us to win, but you never know.
Now onto the Jets who received good news yesterday with confirmation that the Geno Smith legal case is no longer an active investigation.
Last month Geno was accused of battery and some footage posted online showed a very heated exchange outside Smith’s Florida home. This raised plenty of questions, not least whether the Jets QB would be facing a suspension to start the season, a common outcome with legal disputes.
There is a possibility that Smith could still face suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, but based on all the information available, that now seems very unlikely.
The Davie, Florida police department (via ESPN) citied a lack of evidence for the decision to not pursue the issue further:
"No further investigative steps can be reasonably taken with the information presently available. Any future investigative action is contingent on additional information or evidence being brought forward,"
It was also noted that neither Smith or the accuser provided follow up statements to the police. Surveillance footage was not available outside of the RING doorbell camera and when the accuser was examined there was “no observable injuries to her facial area.”, although there was a small cut on her hand and a bruise on her arm. Geno had scratches on his face and a knot on the back of his head, but other than that they were both fine.
Considering neither the accuser or accused seemed to have any interest in helping the police, I think we can largely close this matter when it comes to the Jets and 2026. The NFL could choose to suspend Geno for a game or two, but as mentioned earlier, that also seems very unlikely.
Neither Smith or the Jets have failed to make any public comment on the issue.
Demario Davis - Honourable Mention
ESPN have been running through their top-10 lists ahead of the new season, and while Davis just missed out on being named one of the 10 best off-ball linebackers in football, he did receive an honourable mention meaning he received top-10 votes.
One anonymous NFC executive called him a “fine wine”, which I presume means that he’s getting better with age, just like most posters here at TJW!
Despite Davis being 37, I think this is my favourite signing of the off-season. The Jets desperately needed to upgrade at linebacker and Davis has remained one of the more productive players at his position.
He brings a lot to the table, but that equation starts with his on-field performance. Then you add the leadership, the maturity, the preparation, the time and money he spends on his recovery, and you have a player who will be respected and looked up to.
Jamien Sherwood is by no means a pup, but he lost his way a little last year. If anyone is going to bring him back to his best it’s Demario Davis.

Aaron Wilson confirmed that the Jets had waived Quentin Skinner from injured reserve.
Zack Rosenblatt believes Will Levis is one of the more likely trade targets for the Jets:
“I would characterize him as one of the more likely potential targets on this list, because there’s no place for him anymore on a Tennessee roster with Cam Ward and Mitchell Trubisky. He is a flawed quarterback and turnover-prone, but his athleticism and arm talent are undeniable and worth pursuing if it only takes a late draft pick or a waiver-wire claim,”
Glad the Geno drama seems to be over. The speeding tickets are a minor thing, hope for the next few weeks all he drives is a Smart car. Maybe the brigade can pitch in and send Geno a crow bar so he can pry his head out of his butt and lay low for the rest of the offseason.

David, at this point of the World Cup, the team of Three Lions is playing with house money.
I guess you and all of England’s fans should have the us against the world attitude because that’s basically what today’s game has turn into.
The CFIFA, the C stands for corrupt, appears to have made Messi and the Argentinians their favorite child.
Watching how Messi is treated by the officials sorts of brings back horrible memories of how Tom Brady was treated when he played.
Hopefully, the officials from this game won’t be South American because some of the calls in previous WC games of this present tournament surely haven’t passed the sniff test.
David, if there is one thing that the WC has accomplished is that a few members of the Torch and Pitchfork Brigade have become viewers of the WC especially of England’s games.
Even my good friend, Ron Alexander has shown minimal interest. Now that’s an accomplishment all by itself.
Supposedly he bought a Three Lion golf shirt to wear on the links when he plays.
As far as Geno goes, supposedly social media has found another traffic stop that he was involved in previously in Florida.
So his off season scorecard shows two traffic stops for assorted reasons of which a few are duplicated plus an “ supposed “ altercation with a member of the female gender.
Historically, quarterbacks are the face of a franchise. Geno is really not showing any smarts in his second dance with the Jets. He hasn’t exactly shown he has changed much since his first stint here. I’m sure this isn’t what Mougey and Glenn bargained for.
When he got hit by IK Enemkpali, I hate to say it, but he deserved it. He was being a total disrespectful jerk.
Based on his actions since the Jets resigned him, it appears Ik didn’t hit him hard enough because it appears he certainly hasn’t learned his lesson.
