As long as Rodgers is under contract, this is team will be under his specter, so it makes no sense to talk about changing the play caller or any of the former Lambeau Leapers currently on this roster. The Jets organization lead by the Clueless Johnson Brothers is scared to offend Rodgers.
Aside from players who don’t have Green Bay on their resumes, all current Jet employees jobs are secured. Again the Rodgers spell freezes all personnel decisions. JD and Saleh safe for now.
Saleh talks too much. His chalkboard comment about embarrassing quarterbacks came back to bite his pride and joy defense in the ass big time. His constant weekly comments about the offense proves he knows just about as much about offense as Rex did. Which means he knows nothing.
The Raiders in much array, changes their OC among other changes and with an OC with one game experience beats the Jets.
Buffalo next on the Jet schedule, changes their OC, they tattoo Saleh’s D for 32.
The Jet offense setting negative offensive records are staying put with Hackett. But like Saleh said, the offense needed a little tweak then they would be fun to watch. If Saleh thinks his offense is so much fun to watch, I’m sure he will watching the Bill’s tape with a large bucket of pop corn, a 72 ounce big gulp coke and a box of goobers Monday morning, chuckling it up with Hackett.
I don’t know how long Saleh will be HC here, but whenever a change is being made, the Jets better hire a young, innovative offensive coach to be HC. This organization and it’s fan base are begging for a coach/ coaching staff who can provide a modern day offense that keeps opposing DCs up all night. Hackett’s offense doesn’t scare anyone.
The Jet organization and most Jet fans like to talk about the 2022 draft, how many of those players do you think will really want to sign a second contract here after playing through two seasons with this dysfunctional organization.
Hackett is not as bad as Payton said he was. Payton was being charitable, he is worst.
Smart organizations admit they are wrong when bad personnel decisions are made. The salary cap makes some cut’s financially impossible but this nonsense about Zach Wilson is getting better has to stop.
As much as Rodgers injury destroyed the 2023 Jets NFL season, having Zach as the backup guaranteed this would be one of the worst seasons in Jet history.
Zach is not a starting NFL quarterback, he is maybe a mediocre backup at best.
It’s not Zach’s fault he was drafted but it is the Jet organization’s fault he is the backup.
Welcome back! Haven’t heard from you lately? Hope all is well! This game was everything I thought we would have seen even earlier this season. Sach showed us once again who he is; god athlete strong arm absolutely in over his head mentally. The offensive ineptitude had the defense on the field way to much. They weren’t great either but I think they were gassed!
I was sold on your premise a month ago. It's way past time to give up on Sack. He just doesn't have the mental wherewithal to process what an NFL starting has to process. Back in pre-season when the jets played the Giants, I was hoping beyond hope that they would cut Tommy DeVito so they could snap him up. And Saleh doesn't deserve to finish out the season as head coach, he needs to go NOW !!! He's and embarrassment to the team and himself. If he had any shred of honor he would resign posthaste.
I'm surprised you were able to do a newsletter this morning. Would have been too depressed to do one, although I know you get paid for these.
So many things wrong with this O, it's even dragging Breece, Garrett and the D down with them. Was LaFleur that bad? Nope, compared to Hackett.
It's no-one's fault individually, it started at the top with JD failing to restock the OL/bring in a decent backup QB, goes on to Saleh babbling about the O nearly being there despite 8 TDs in 9 games....against a team that fired its OC last week.
Dysfunctional....and I'm being charitable.
Will things change? Doubt it, we were meant to be all in this season and next. Who is gonna want to come to Florham Park as a FA?
13 years of no playoffs and counting...man, I miss Rex Ryan's 09 and 10 teams.
Hey David, you and everyone in media repeats the mantra, Shame on JD for not having a better back up. I ask was that really feasable from a cap standpoint? Rodgers was on for 75 mil before restructuring and Zach is on the hook for 10M. They tried to keep mike white but couldnt afford the 8M miami is paying him plus he really wanted to play in FLA. Also Rodgers is practically an ironman, so you'd have to make a bet that he'd last the season - maybe he misses a couple of games and zach can spell him but theres nobody who could see this coming. If you commit to keep zach to learn from AR, then he has to be #2 in order to get those reps. Is Falcco coming back to be #3?
Moreover, everyone is screaming about Josh Dobbs, whom I love as well, but do you think he has the same success in THIS offense, with this OL? he is having a carrer year but hes bounced around the league for a reason. Maybe we coulda got Brissett, maybe. But lets not forget Aaron ROdgers is the GM right now and to get him they got all his people. SO Boyle is one of HIS guys. I know we all want to say we knew this or that, but this season was AR or bust. Once we lost him that was it. Saleh get credit for keeping us in it for 10 games. Now the hard truth. Hackett is horrible. Sean Payton was right- he the worst payton had ever seen. How bad must it have been for another coach to say that -- unsolicited. Hacketts Offense can ONLY work with Aaron ROdgers, and thats that. We wee married to this as soon as we hired him.
I've noticed a few spaces in Jets-related media where folks comment on the Jets choosing to role with Zach Wilson as the preferred backup to Aaron Rodgers. There are comments that they should've signed another guy to backup Rodgers and keep Zach Wilson as a 3rd quarterback. This isn't to say that anybody on this board (David included) has or is suggesting it, but it is such a common refrain that I thought I'd pull some interesting information that, I think, provides some context behind that decision.
Essentially, I think it is all centered on money and roster construction. Consider this: the Jets, currently, have a projected 7 million in cap room. Zach Wilson carries a 9 million dollar cap number. That is quite large by backup standards, but he's a former 2nd overall pick, so it's expected. It is what it is. The backups that a lot of folks will occasionally mention that the Jets could've signed are Taylor Heinicke (5.7 million), Gardner Minshew (3.5 million), Jacoby Brissett (8 million), Jameis Winston (4.5 million). So, some combination of one of those guys plus Zach Wilson's contract is what would've been the investment for the backup quarterback. Additionally, Zach has a dead money charge that essentially doubles his cap hit. If they'd have released him, the dead money is 20 million.
All of this is to say, deciding to roll with Aaron Rodgers (or even Derek Carr) as their guy necessarily meant that they were handcuffing themselves from a financial standpoint. There, almost, was no way he was getting released. There was, also, almost no way he was being kept on the team as a 3rd stringer. I can't imagine Saleh or his staff would've been willing to hamstring themselves by carrying three quarterbacks.
I think that based on this information, the criticism that they rolled with Zach as the backup is without merit. They were so hamstrung by the massive amount of money they were paying him and the prohibitive nature of cutting him that he was always going to be the backup. It, actually, makes me like the Rodgers contract slightly more. I still would've preferred Brissett, but I think that Rodgers taking less might have been a blessing. That doesn't speak to the misappropriation of assets (missing on Hardman, possibly missing on the structure of the offensive staff, not having Downing as the play caller, signing Cobb, etc.), but I think it truly illustrates what missing on a 2nd overall quarterback and trying to recover from that without completely rebuilding means for a team.
I said this after the Charger game "they are not winning another game this year". You are right David the incompenent Jets head coach will say " its a short week i have to start Wilson". That same coach has defiantly told us "Zack Wilson is our QB". The GM is no better he never pivoted when Rogers went down beside his bad drafts. I would take Adam Gase over this jerk. We know the owner will do nothing. However, both the GM and Coach HAVE to go - they should't be allowed another draft nor year to coach. The best part of yesterday game was Gardner throwing Diggs down like a rag doll. It SUCKS being a jets fan - GO RANGERS !
They waited too long to bench Sack. But with the ramshackle o-line the Jets have no QB would be a success. I went into this game knowing exactly what was going to happen. The funniest thing was Romo shilling for Sack and the Jets offense. The true miracle would not be that they win another game this season but if they average one TD per game for the season. The Jets could conceivably win a game with field goals and defensive TD's but I'm not betting my social security on it, lol. To paraphrase an old tune "Turn out the lights, the season's over".
