Reasoning: WR is a need but should the pick be Boston as David suggests or Cooper. The key factor is how do the Jets view WR Mitchell (former 2nd round) and WR I Williams. I think the Jets believe Mitchell is their X receiver. If so, their interest in Boston is a smokescreen. I think Cooper is a better fit and can play slot and also some outside. His YAC is very good and he is a versatile weapon. Let I Williams be the #4 WR. However 16 may be a little soon for either and think a small trade down would work - trade pick 16 and pick 140 for pick 19 and 83. This insures a nervous Carolina gets the safety they want.
Zion Young can hold the edge and may have a slowly improving rush. The Jets have many needs and adding a LB and Safety will help. Obviously there are other possible directions to go.
QB- Simpson or not. I am saying no since I do not expect him to reach the 2nd round. Then decision between Allar and Payton and I think Payton is a good developmental pick. We need a kicker option and the Jets should take someone in the 6th- how can we miss by taking someone named Smack. May have to trade up in the 6th to get him- use 2027 pick.

Bobber, 18 tackles for loss does not make you a good run defender. It says you are aggressive and you will occasionally run into a tackle for loss simply because you in the right place at the right time. The question then becomes are you there because you neglected your responsibility to maintain outside contain? If you watch a Giants game you can see three different Edge defenders that excel as pass rushers. But you also see a defense that gets shredded against the outside run,screen passes to RB’s and WR screens. Hopefully for them their new coaching staff can instill some discipline .
You know a lot of Jet fans want Gastineau in the HOF. His sacks say yes, but teams use to take his aggressive speed and run plays past him all the time.
He would be zeroing in on the quarterback and the running back was 15 yards down field.

Exactly! I posted this earlier but will say it again; Big 12 pass rushers have had more than a few underwhelming results! The WMD draft class had 2 other 1st rd Edge defenders. At pick 7 the Raiders picked Tyree Wilson ( ironically from Texas Tech)12 sacks in 3 seasons 🤔 and the Chief’s took Felix Uzomah at 32. He’s been a complete bust with 4 sacks in 3 years.
The Big XII thing is real. Interestingly, Bailey probably would've played better competition had he stayed at Stanford because he'd be playing ACC schools now. Instead, he goes to the Big XII where he gets to feast on the likes of Kansas (who've been surprisingly competent recently), Central Florida, Oklahoma State, Arizona, and West Virginia. The cream of the crop in the Big XII left for the SEC (Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri and Oklahoma). Iowa State, BYU, TCU and K-State are working to flip the script, but it'll take some time.
I was having this very conversation with Craig C. a few posts ago. Tackles for a loss can be instructive of how disruptive a player is, but a player can rack up tackles for a loss while consistently failing their assignment. I think we've covered this a lot, but one of the biggest problems that the Jets had on defense last year was missed assignments. There were too many players free lancing. It isn't to say that players were flat out bad, but it is to say a successful defense requires players doing their specific job and nobody else's. The Jets had too many inexperienced players trying to do more than they were being asked to do, resulting in a lot of guys being out of position. It's such a nuanced thing to ask a player to stick to his assignment and not try to do more.
I don't think the Jets will take 2 QBs. I hope that they're not even thinking about doing that. Next year would be the time to do something like that. If they take one at all, I hope that it's not until the 5th round. I also don't think Emmett Johnson is falling the 4th round. I think he will probably go in the 2nd round, the 3rd at the latest.

Phil, yeah, I saw that YouTube video with Duz. I agreed with most of his thoughts but not on his thinking regarding Bailey over Reese. Is Duz saying Bailey “will become” a better run defender any more logical than Reese fans saying he will become a better pass rusher? Looking at the requirements needed to fulfill those tasks which is more likely? Early on he says Bailey is better against the run than he’s given credit for. But later says Bailey will improve? Hmmm. Run defense is about two things. Size and strength and willingness to stick your head in there and knock the snot out of your target in spite of dealing with one or two 300lb dudes looking to bury you at the same time. At only 6’3 251lbs I’m not convinced Bailey ( like WMD) has the size to do that. There is more history of college Edge defenders improving as pass rushers than there is weak run defenders improving vs the run. For me the biggest concern with drafting Bailey is the lack of versatility. If you play him at OLB he will have coverage assignments vs RB’s and TE’s. If he’s doing that he’s not rushing the passer and isn’t that what you’re drafting him to do? If you play him at DE on early downs he will get buried!
Also, I think in this conversation debating Arvell Reese and David Bailey, people have conflated Bailey being more pro-ready with Reese being some long-term developmental project that won’t contribute for a while.
I personally think Reese is going to be good and productive right away. And potentially a star long-term.
Maybe they zig when everybody thinks that they'll zag. It's very possible that the highest floor players in the draft are Caleb Downs and Rueben Bain. It's in the realm of possibility that Rueben Bain drops to the Jets' second first round pick. Heck; it is possible that Caleb Downs drops to that pick. Having watched some of Bailey and some of Bain, I came away with the impression that Bain was a much better defensive lineman (if not as athletic and dynamic as Bailey). Bailey had so much extra juice, but it was all over the place. The sheer violence that Bain played with on the edge was unmatched in this class. Maybe everybody locking into the Bailey versus Reese conversation is a media creation when two of the best football players in the draft, full stop, are Bain and Downs. I still want Styles, though. Also....check in on Sonny's older brother. He is a corner who started at Ohio State last season after beginning his college career at Notre Dame. He has outstanding speed, but hadn't gotten to the point where he could showcase it fully on the field, yet. He's an interesting proposition late in the draft since he played a ton of special teams.
Bain at 16? Hmmm. Still concerned about the fit but if AG wants a DT that can rush the QB why not? His short arms would less of an issue inside! I like him better in a 4-3?as a DE that slides inside to a 3-tech
I could see some serious versatility in a defensive end like him who can move seamlessly between 5, 4i, and 3 depending on the situation. I also think he is the best pure defensive lineman among himself, Bailey, and Reese (not hard here considering Reese isn't a defensive lineman). The problem might be that him getting to 16 (or Downs getting to 16) is a reach. If you love both of them enough to take them early, you aren't leaving taking them to chance. It's more of a pipe dream.
I hear what you're saying about Bailey, but if Bailey can't hold up to the power and size of OL what makes you think that Reese can? Reese is 6'4", 241 lbs.
That argument assumes that they'll play Reese and Bailey at the same position. Not all edges are created the same and they'd likely ask different edges to take on different roles. I think they'd ask Reese, at the start, to play more in the 'alley' than they would ask him to set an edge. They brought in a pretty competent edge setter in Kingsley Enagbare and gave a fair amount of money to Joseph Ossai (who isn't quite the edge setter that Enagbare is, but is the most complete of their current edges). Regardless of who they pick (Reese, Bailey, or whoever), each of their edges (McDonald, Enagbare, Ossai, and their draft pick) will be deployed in roles that accentuate their strengths (McDonald's pass rushing, Enagbare's run defense, Ossai's 3-down potential, etc).
It appears the Cardinals are chomping on the bit to get out of 3 but still want to be around 9-12.
They are afraid of a team like the Rams wheeling dealing to move up

I don’t understand this constant that the Jets should/ are dealing Garrett. The guy has been a consummate professional and has put up ridiculous numbers with the worst cast of starting quarterbacks in NFL history.
When Davante Adams came to make Rodgers happy, Rodgers froze Garrett out.

Having no evaluation skills at all, I’m kind of perplexed over this whole Bailey over Reese story line.
Come august both of these young men will be blowing out birthday candles, Bailey turning 23, Reese 21.
Most experts say that Reese has the highest ceiling. I’ve seen articles where unnamed NFL personnel scouts, coaching hes and GMs say he is going to be a monster due to his versatility.
They acknowledge that Bailey is presently the best pass rusher coming out of college.
They claim he can’t play the run yet Bailey had 19.5 tackles for losses.

Due to his size, is he a true NFL 3 down player.
Pro comparison, Will McDonald as far as weight and height. When the Jets drafted McDonald the same accolades thrown at him are now being used to describe Bailey. McDonald has already had a 4 sack game but then turned into Houdini disappearing for 3-4 games.
With the complexities of today’s NFL defenses, you see defensive players getting shuttled in on every down, they claim Reese will eventually be a three down player capable to handle any responsibility.
Some people see Micah Parsons in him. Their words not mine.
Lastly, they say Glenn is fighting for his job. Bailey makes more PRESENT sense, Reese makes more future sense.
If Glenn is arguing for Bailey for that reason, “ Which we don’t know is true” or not. Then he should be fired immediately because the best interests of the Jets are not being taking care of.
Lastly, if you have to wait for Reese to blossom, what’s the big deal. This organization will probably have to wait for whatever quarterback they draft this year or next year.
Of course impatient Woody can demand that the Jets use next year’s 3-1s to trade for Burrows.

Bobber, lots of great info, but I have to disagree with you on one point. If Glenn is arguing for Bailey, that doesn't mean that he should be fired. Yes, he wants to keep his job, but he may legitimately think that Bailey will be the better pro and have the better career. Also, he knows the Jets need to start winning now. He knows the fanbase is tired of all the losing as are the Jets' players. They need to start learning how to win, and building that winning culture. Waiting 1-3 years for Bailey to develop (if he develops) won't help that culture unless he contributes consistently out of the gate.
I feel if they are waiting for 2027 to draft a quarterback then they could draft Reese and wait him out a year or two. He has a higher ceiling, also Bailey appears to be. McDonald clone.

Phil, yeah, I saw that YouTube video with Duz. I agreed with most of his thoughts but not on his thinking regarding Bailey over Reese. Is Duz saying Bailey “will become” a better run defender any more logical than Reese fans saying he will become a better pass rusher? Looking at the requirements needed to fulfill those tasks which is more likely? Early on he says Bailey is better against the run than he’s given credit for. But later says Bailey will improve? Hmmm. Run defense is about two things. Size and strength and willingness to stick your head in there and knock the snot out of your target in spite of dealing with one or two 300lb dudes looking to bury you at the same time. At only 6’3 251lbs I’m not convinced Bailey ( like WMD) has the size to do that. There is more history of college Edge defenders improving as pass rushers than there is weak run defenders improving vs the run. For me the biggest concern with drafting Bailey is the lack of versatility. If you play him at OLB he will have coverage assignments vs RB’s and TE’s. If he’s doing that he’s not rushing the passer and isn’t that what you’re drafting him to do? If you play him at DE on early downs he will get buried!

Also, I think in this conversation debating Arvell Reese and David Bailey, people have conflated Bailey being more pro-ready with Reese being some long-term developmental project that won’t contribute for a while.
I personally think Reese is going to be good and productive right away. And potentially a star long-term.
Maybe they zig when everybody thinks that they'll zag. It's very possible that the highest floor players in the draft are Caleb Downs and Rueben Bain. It's in the realm of possibility that Rueben Bain drops to the Jets' second first round pick. Heck; it is possible that Caleb Downs drops to that pick. Having watched some of Bailey and some of Bain, I came away with the impression that Bain was a much better defensive lineman (if not as athletic and dynamic as Bailey). Bailey had so much extra juice, but it was all over the place. The sheer violence that Bain played with on the edge was unmatched in this class. Maybe everybody locking into the Bailey versus Reese conversation is a media creation when two of the best football players in the draft, full stop, are Bain and Downs. I still want Styles, though. Also....check in on Sonny's older brother. He is a corner who started at Ohio State last season after beginning his college career at Notre Dame. He has outstanding speed, but hadn't gotten to the point where he could showcase it fully on the field, yet. He's an interesting proposition late in the draft since he played a ton of special teams.
Bain at 16? Hmmm. Still concerned about the fit but if AG wants a DT that can rush the QB why not? His short arms would less of an issue inside! I like him better in a 4-3?as a DE that slides inside to a 3-tech
I could see some serious versatility in a defensive end like him who can move seamlessly between 5, 4i, and 3 depending on the situation. I also think he is the best pure defensive lineman among himself, Bailey, and Reese (not hard here considering Reese isn't a defensive lineman). The problem might be that him getting to 16 (or Downs getting to 16) is a reach. If you love both of them enough to take them early, you aren't leaving taking them to chance. It's more of a pipe dream.
I hear what you're saying about Bailey, but if Bailey can't hold up to the power and size of OL what makes you think that Reese can? Reese is 6'4", 241 lbs.
That argument assumes that they'll play Reese and Bailey at the same position. Not all edges are created the same and they'd likely ask different edges to take on different roles. I think they'd ask Reese, at the start, to play more in the 'alley' than they would ask him to set an edge. They brought in a pretty competent edge setter in Kingsley Enagbare and gave a fair amount of money to Joseph Ossai (who isn't quite the edge setter that Enagbare is, but is the most complete of their current edges). Regardless of who they pick (Reese, Bailey, or whoever), each of their edges (McDonald, Enagbare, Ossai, and their draft pick) will be deployed in roles that accentuate their strengths (McDonald's pass rushing, Enagbare's run defense, Ossai's 3-down potential, etc).
It appears the Cardinals are chomping on the bit to get out of 3 but still want to be around 9-12.
They are afraid of a team like the Rams wheeling dealing to move up
They want to take Simpson there.
Currently he is the apple of their eye.
One report has a good chance of a Card Saint trade.
I don’t understand this constant that the Jets should/ are dealing Garrett. The guy has been a consummate professional and has put up ridiculous numbers with the worst cast of starting quarterbacks in NFL history.
When Davante Adams came to make Rodgers happy, Rodgers froze Garrett out.
Who in their right mind trades an above average playmaker who has a 4 year contract.
Plus we don’t know what Garrett can possibly do with an actual professional quarterback and a complimentary receiver room.
If the Jets draft a running back then we know Hall is gone in a draft day trade. Did people forget about Allen and Davis?
We actually don’t know who calls the shots for the Jets.
When the draft is over, the makeup of the picks might reveal if it’s Glenn, a defensive draft, or Mougey a balanced or offensive draft.
Trading Wilson makes no sense for a team that's going to want to set up a young QB for success
Having no evaluation skills at all, I’m kind of perplexed over this whole Bailey over Reese story line.
Come august both of these young men will be blowing out birthday candles, Bailey turning 23, Reese 21.
Most experts say that Reese has the highest ceiling. I’ve seen articles where unnamed NFL personnel scouts, coaching hes and GMs say he is going to be a monster due to his versatility.
They acknowledge that Bailey is presently the best pass rusher coming out of college.
They claim he can’t play the run yet Bailey had 19.5 tackles for losses.
( NOT THAT IT MEANS ANYTHING BUT ALL TIME JET DRAFT BUST VERN( THE GHOUL) GHOLSTON HAD 14 SACKS AND 15.5 TACKLES FOR LOSS HIS LAST SEASON AT OSU)
Do sacks also count as tackles for losses in college stats.
Due to his size, is he a true NFL 3 down player.
Pro comparison, Will McDonald as far as weight and height. When the Jets drafted McDonald the same accolades thrown at him are now being used to describe Bailey. McDonald has already had a 4 sack game but then turned into Houdini disappearing for 3-4 games.
With the complexities of today’s NFL defenses, you see defensive players getting shuttled in on every down, they claim Reese will eventually be a three down player capable to handle any responsibility.
Some people see Micah Parsons in him. Their words not mine.
Lastly, they say Glenn is fighting for his job. Bailey makes more PRESENT sense, Reese makes more future sense.
If Glenn is arguing for Bailey for that reason, “ Which we don’t know is true” or not. Then he should be fired immediately because the best interests of the Jets are not being taking care of.
Lastly, if you have to wait for Reese to blossom, what’s the big deal. This organization will probably have to wait for whatever quarterback they draft this year or next year.
Of course impatient Woody can demand that the Jets use next year’s 3-1s to trade for Burrows.

• De'Zhaun Stribling had a limited route tree in college, but I bet on him over Chris Brazzell in terms of contributing within the team element. Stribling is going to put in the work to strengthen his game, gives effort in run game. and likely will be a strong special teamer.

Bobber, lots of great info, but I have to disagree with you on one point. If Glenn is arguing for Bailey, that doesn't mean that he should be fired. Yes, he wants to keep his job, but he may legitimately think that Bailey will be the better pro and have the better career. Also, he knows the Jets need to start winning now. He knows the fanbase is tired of all the losing as are the Jets' players. They need to start learning how to win, and building that winning culture. Waiting 1-3 years for Bailey to develop (if he develops) won't help that culture unless he contributes consistently out of the gate.
I feel if they are waiting for 2027 to draft a quarterback then they could draft Reese and wait him out a year or two. He has a higher ceiling, also Bailey appears to be. McDonald clone.
