I think there is a chance that the Jets will have two developmental QB’s in 2023. Signing White will be a challenge, with all the CAP Restrictions, but White & Wilson combined will have a salary less than 20 million at a time when average starting QB’s salary is over 25 million. I am hoping that Streveler gets a package to help the Jets Short Yardage, and Red zone woes.
The developmental star at WR is Wilson, 10th pick of the draft , but is exceeding all expectations. The running backs, Carter, Knight, & Johnson have developed in the passing game, demonstrating that a check down can be a big play, Zach pay attention. The developmental stars of the Offensive Line has to be Herbig & Max Mitchell, just good coaching. On the Defensive side, Johnson & Michael Clemons have been limited because of a deep defensive line rotation and have shown promise. Their development will enable the Jets to part ways with Carl Lawson in 2023, saving 15 million. The development of Sauce has been simply astounding, great talent, but he has adjusted to the NFL game flawlessly, and at times dominates. A player that is under the radar, that has developed nicely, is Michael Carter 2, giving the Jets three outstanding CB’s in their secondary.
All of these young players are succeeding because of good coaching, culture, and the support from all parts of the organization.
Currently Zach has a CAP charge in 2023 of 9, 587, 000. Can White be signed for 10 Million, I think so. Kindly note that currently there are only 17 QB’s that have an average salary of over 10. That will certainly change. Counting on the league wide bias that White’s ceiling is limited because of his fifth round draft status. Five games to go , and the playoffs, things and values will change. The offseason QB carousel will begin in a few months, the Jets may be a participant.
I have had my doubts, on both MLF & Ulbrich. Three great CB’s has made Ulbrich look good. MLF is creative, but he has a tendency to get too cute, there is a balance. Mike White is making LaFluer look very good, validating his Offensive System. This Franchise lost Gregg Knapp, I don’t think the Jets have ever fully recovered. Going forward, despite MLF’s development, recommend that the Jets obtain a Veteran Passing Coordinator ( Receivers, TE’s, & QB’s) . Huge Brant Boyer supporter, improves all his kickers 20%, ST’s are doing well.
re "Mike White is making LaFluer look very good" - I'd argue that MLF needs an above average OL and a competent QB to run his system properly, and he hasn't had either of them. Mike White has been good enough to run the system and thus has looked really good.
I don't know how much credit to give MLF for MW success, but he was a practice squad QB when we got him, a turnover machine last year besides the Cinci game, and this year he's playing within the system and crushing it.
I agree he gets too cute sometimes, but he also is trying to cover up from so many OL struggles. it's a balance that other OC's can figure out, so i think it's growing pains.
Our offense falls apart without an OL. I'm still waiting for it to all come together consistently, but the OL has been a huge drag on all of it. Our offense can be really good once we get the OL playing like stars and a competent QB.
Ulbrich - that's one perspective, but maybe he helped develop that trio. His front four have put on solid pressure, covering up for our clear weaknesses (both safeties and LB). He's developed Quincy from super athletic but terrible angles last year to playing under control. Found an effective way to develop Huff into a stud pass rusher without his play against the run being a liability. I'm not sure how much credit he gets for each, but he's the DC so I give him the credit and blame. Our defense was horrible last year. We've upgraded 2 really good CB's but it's mostly the same personnel besides.

White is going to get an offer in the 8 figures this offseason. Add that to Zach and we'd be spending over $30 mil on the QB position.

I'd also add our coaching staff as developing.
MLF is already our most creative play caller in years, but is still improving.
Saleh is getting more savvy in how he discusses with the media, especially injuries

Great piece today
I have absolutely no problem believing that White can be our long-term answer at QB.
And I have no problem believing that some day Zach Wilson will be successful as a NFL QB.
The statements are not mutually exclusive, though I have more faith in statement #1.
I've posted this elsewhere (thanks to Rivka for the stat):
Mike White's RAS (relative athletic score on a scale of 10) was 2.3 at the combine; not good.
Zach Wilson was 7.7
A guy named Brady was 1.5
Success at QB in the NFL is mostly about what's between the ears and in the chest.
Thanks David I really enjoyed this article, you’re the man!
