I agree - the jets are definitly taking a developmental QB. Why when they have one already makes no sense. They really need to sign somone ike Teddy or Cam. If Douglas was paying attention to the Mets at all - he would see that 40 year olds breakdown. (of course with the Mets like The Jets .injuries are a way of life). Garaunteed contracts like Verlander got, means there is no incentive to play. Then on top of it they get injured and be out for the year. He really needs to sign a veteran backup. Even if they put pillows across metlife field the jets would get injured.
Yeah I'm definitely leaning that way as well, I also don't want Zach being handed that #2 spot, if we need to carry three QBs so be it, we did it last year. I'd welcome Teddy or Cam, but with the money we're going to be paying AR and Zach getting plenty, I'm not sure how willing they'll be to pay a good backup. I hope they do though, the thought of us being one injury to a 40 year old away from going back to Zach scares me to death.
Steve, thank you. I knew I missed one thing in my earlier comments. I thought I was getting too long winded and didn’t want to top our friend Bobber😂 Yes, I agree with you and David. I do not want to see ZW anywhere near the field this season. Frankly, never again as a Jet. I honestly don’t see Cam as an option either. He’s just too one dimensional. He’s a run first QB that’s body is beginning to fail him. You would have to run a different style offense with him in the field. And we saw how difficult that is when we played Joe Flacco. The blueprint for the MLF offense required an athletic mobile QB. And all know Flacco was anything but that. Now Cam has the athletic ability in spades. But he does not have the processing and decision making abilities to run this wide zone west coast system! He’s a read option guy. One read and then go.
Good morning fellow Jet fans! Well, DWH has given us another excellent start to our day. So let’s get at it. First, the Odell thing. I think he’s a Jet. 2nd, I don’t think he gets anywhere near $15 million a year. He’s a guy that’s gonna get 10 maybe 15 snaps a game. You can’t play him in a full time starters roll. So you can’t pay him like one either. That’s why he’s still out there. The only concern is that if his price comes down too low a team like KC or Buffalo might jump in. The new turf has been a major concern for a while now. Everyone wants to get this right. I like seeing the Jets casting a wide net at the center position. The easy way out would be to re up McGovern. But after watching him the last 3 seasons I think a change is needed. Hopefully who ever comes in helps Laken Tomlinson get back to his 2021 form. Have a great day everyone! Go Jets! U da man David Wyatt Hupton! As always, well done!
Appreciate it Ron. OBJ is interesting, when it was reported he wanted $20 mill he publically stated that was rubbish, nothing has come out from him about the report on $15 mill so maybe that's where he's setting his mark right now hoping someone will become desperate enough. I agree that when it's all said and done he probably gets closer to $10-$12 million over two years, and if Corey is included in the Rodgers deal that opens up that amount which can be used on OBJ, some theory is he's waiting for that Rodgers deal which would make sense.
I still want to see us go back to natural grass but with all the concerts and us sharing a stadium, so it having to cope with double the amount of games, I don't think we'll be getting that anytime soon.
Absolutely! I think it’s a fact the Rodgers thing is the holdup. My only concern which I mentioned is the possibility of other teams getting involved as the number decreases. It would be hard for him to say no to playing with Patrick Mahomes
What has "helped" Zach turn into an NFL-ready QB since we last saw him?
Last year, when he was hurt and later when he was benched 2x, the idea was to study the guys on the field, take a break (learn from Flacco, White, madden...)... and no surprise, that didn't help. the previous offseason the idea was to work with various coaches. No help.
I guess they're hoping that Aaron Rodgers has some magical effect on him, unfortunately sometimes players just aren't good enough for the pro level. My gut feeling is that Zach isn't good enough, but seems the Jets are willing to double down on their investment.
I wouldn’t be surprised if NYJ draft a developmental QB they love and 2 is traded for a 4th or 5th round draft pick. There are so many conversations that us fans are not aware of unless someone leaks them to the media. There might be a team out there that thinks they can fix 2. Some reporters go to extremes to get that story! ( Manish Mehta ). I don’t think there is a good enough backup out there to take us to the promised land if Rodgers gets hurt. Teddy is probably the best of who’s left unsigned.
I agree there Chris, I think someone like Teddy can get us to the playoffs but we won't be winning a championship with him or any other backup, we have a good team, but to win with a player like Teddy you'd need all-pros at basically every other position.
I also agree that there could be conversations going on in relation to #2, but my gut feeling is the team who believes they can fix Zach is the Jets, I don't agree, but when they talk about their belief in Zach, I believe it's the truth and not just lip service. We'll find out.
What's better: OBJ (dumping Davis) or extending Corey? I personally do not think we've seen the best of Corey Davis, and if the concussions don't raise retirement concerns, an extension that lowers his cap hit might be a consideration.
Ricky Stromberg is 6'3 with some bend-at-the-waist problems. Why don't teams target shorter guys at center and guard? I get less height comes with shorter arms, but doesn't it also come with better leverage?
Good question. I think Corey and Lazard are very similar receivers and OBJ offers up that x-factor, so personally think OBJ may be a nicer complement to what we have, but wouldn't want a long-term deal just in case he's not the player he was. I like Corey though, big fan of his game and his contributions.
Yeah I think that's what keeps Stromberg from being talked about more, at 6'3 you need to play with better leverage and as a hip bender that's where he'll have some issues at the next level. Most centers seen to be 6'3 and over, Linderbaum was "smaller" at 6'2. The smallest guard I can think of his Shaq Mason who's 6'1

They just cant be thinking this way could they ?

i agree Ron - i just want someone would rather go Teddy but Cam is probably cheaper. You make great points though on Cam he is done really.
