Good morning!
I’ve been feeling absolutely rotten this week, and I’m absolutely blaming my 3-year-old for bringing the plague back from the germ factory, also known as a nursery.
So, I’m going to keep today’s newsletter short and sharp to finish off the week. With a bye this week we have no game to preview, but I’m pretty excited to get to Giants week…what a great opportunity to get above .500.
Devante Adams is getting “frustrated” with his usage, Hunter Renfrow has 6 receptions all season and Jimmy G is injured…again.
For as frustrated as we were with the Mecole Hardman use, I just don’t understand what’s happening in Vegas.
Adams has 6 receptions over the last two games and he’s now gone 3 straight games without a touchdown.
For a player like Adams, that really isn’t going to fly, but the Las Vegas Raiders are 3-3, the same as the Jets and there are no indications that they’re in selling mode, at least not yet.
But if you’re Joe Douglas, you make that call.
We all know that Devante Adams is close with Aaron Rodgers, and after Rodgers suffered his season-ending injury against Buffalo, Adams was one of the first people to reach out:
"That's my guy though, so I let him know basically I'm here for him in whatever way that I can," Adams said. "I don't know what I can do to make him feel better at this point, especially obviously with us being in season now as well, but like I said, it sucks and I'm just praying that his mental is in a good spot right now and he continues to overcome it, and obviously that team as well."
Now this isn’t likely, trading for Adams would mean taking on his contract
I’ve often said that the NFL salary cap is a complete myth, just look at how the Rams navigated it for their title run. There are so many levers you can pull to hide salary here and hide salary there. But even with all of that considered, fitting him under the cap past this year would be a very difficult balancing act.
I do think the Jets are a WR short following the unexpected retirement of Corey Davis but swinging for Adams may be a step too far…but that doesn’t mean Douglas shouldn’t make the call.
The Jets are a run-heavy team and as long as Aaron Rodgers is on the sideline, I expect them to stay that way. So are there enough targets to go around? Garrett needs to stay as the #1 for his development, but the idea of Wilson, Adams, Lazard and Gipson lining up together is a very appealing one.
Hunter Renfrow would cost significantly less in terms of salary and draft capital and while he’s not the calibre that Adams is, he’s one of the very best route-runners in football. Adding him to the mix would be an exciting proposition, and based on his ability to get separation he would help Zach Wilson no end.
Remember back in 2021 he had 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and 9 touchdowns…a lot of that was based on his route running.
What do you think? In this Friday discussion thread, who would you prefer? Would you try and trade for either? Or would you look elsewhere?
I think the concern is less about the cap space and more about the capital it would take to acquire him. The Raiders paid 1st and 2nd rounders. While he’s 18 month older they likely would want at least our 1st back.
I’m not sure we can trade away our 1st and 2nd in a season where we’re still without a competent QB
La’el Collins, both the Giants and Jets said no. It’s either medical or money or both. But Collins is a Right Guard and a Right Tackle, could bring him around slowly so he could be ready in a month. Chance for Collins to rebuild his brand. Thought Schweitzer was a quality backup, wasn’t all that impressive in the Eagles game, we will see. Joe take another look
