David, can you make a case as to why we should have confidence in Mike La Fleur? There were a lot of first down handoffs called when we were behind on the scoreboard, leading to inevitable third and longs. How did they allow the fourth tight end on the depth chart to derail a drive? Does he know what winning strategies look like in 2022?
I don’t know if it was on the o-line or Flacco, but did it not look like he was always crowded when he dropped back ready to look for a throw? Did he just forget how many steps he needed to take or was the protection just really soft?
The defence was absolutely fantastic in the first half, as Peter said, but there’s only so many times you can keep throwing them out there to mask the offense’s incompetence. The rope will always run out.
I am of course making the assumption MLF is calling everything on offense, but it might be Saleh calling run or pass and MLF picking the play (which weren’t great either). Do we know how they do things?
Yeah the defense were very good, especially the outside corners. Thought as a unit they played the run really well as well, hoping to see a little more pass-rush this week.
Offense has a lot of work to do. Saleh said the game plan was to involve the TE's heavily in the first half which is why Wilson was only in for 6 snaps, yet Conklin didn't do much and Uzomah didn't receive a single target.
I've said in this space before - Douglas nor Salah know what they are doing. They get more credit for doing ntohing in the history of the NFL. There was not one difference in this performance then then past 3 years. Douglas is 0-10 in September with 7 blowouts. I left at the end of the 3rd wish i left at 1/2 time as its a 3 hour ride home - and for what. Never never never walk out of that place with hope, a smile on your face and looking forward to the season. I stayed one year too long with my seasn tickets - and I used to go to Shea Stadium to see Namath play.
Like Steve, my family had Shea season tix when I was a kid; I know the frustration.
But, on a bigger perspective note....we are at least a year away from being truly competitive for the playoffs etc. We are not going to win em all.
The positives I take are:
the running game was solid (75 yrds in the first half), both backs looked great
Max Mitchell held up well in his first NFL game and will only get better, Mitchell, AVT, Laken are a good base
The run defense was outstanding, including the LB's
Jermaine J looked like he belongs, as does Clemmons, and Sauce
I know there's a negative list that's probably longer, but I'm looking for progress

all good points, the LaFleur leash is short

As far as I'm aware Robert Saleh doesn't get involved in the offensive play-calling, it's all MLF.
I’m more optimistic than Steve as I was pretty impressed with the defense for the most part. That’s a major improvement over last season.
The offense though.... eek.
