Good morning! π
Welcome to the weekend. I'm currently down south on a long weekend with the family, so I'm going to keep today's post nice and brief.
We don't have any movement on the Aaron Rodgers front so today I'm going to get you caught up on who's signing there, and I'm also going to break down the best remaining free agents (thanks for the suggestion Irish Jets π)
As we always do here at TJW, we'll have feature pieces on every single new Jet over the coming weeks.
βοΈ The Jets improved their interior offensive line depth with the signing of former Washington Commanders guard/center Wes Schweitzer. Wes allowed 3 sacks and 15 pressures in 238 pass-blocking snaps last year which is a poor year, but he can play all 3 interior spots in the line. I see this as the Dan Feeney replacement and considering that I don't mind it at all. He's started 60 games over the past 6 years, but let's hope he doesn't have to play that much here.
βοΈ The Jets also resigned offensive tackle Adam Pankey who spent the majority of the 2021 season on the practice squad. Pankey did cross over with Nathaniel Hackett in Green Bay back in 2019. Itβs a depth signing for the off-season and we can expect to see a few more of these over the next few days.
π¬ The Jets continue to lose players to the Dolphins. Early on Thursday, it was revealed that backup guard and center Dan Feeney was heading to South Beach, following two years with the Jets. Feeney became a fan favorite for his exploits at Islander games, but while he was a good fill-in, he's a replacement-level player at the NFL level and the Jets didn't struggle too much in terms of finding his replacement.
β±οΈ He'll be joined by Braxton Berrios who the Jets cut after the 2022 season, as well as Mike White who signed with Miami earlier this week. I'd be lying if I said I thought losing any of the three will impact the 2023 Jets significantly, but it's a case of losing depth. The Jets now don't have a single player on the roster capable of playing center.
π΅ Former Jets receiver Jeff Smith also signed a deal with the Giants. Smith was considered a good special teams player, but his impact with the Jets has been minimal at best.
βοΈ The Jets re-signed Nick Bawden after the fullback missed the entire 2022 season with an unknown injury, at least I can't seem to find any information on the injury.
Although we're still waiting for the big fish in Rodgers to be reeled in, the Jets are busy trying to round out their roster to make a championship push, at the moment there is still a lot of work to do.
Here are the two best remaining free agents at positions of need (in my opinion). Starting on the offensive side of the ball.
