Good morning! ☀️
Yesterday I was asked if I was bored of the QB conversation? My answer what no, but I am getting tired of the QB narratives.
I’m very open to multiple options and while I have my preference, I can understand and understand alternative viewpoints, but there is a lot of white/black opinions out there at the moment.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Aaron Rodgers guaranteed the Jets a Super Bowl and Derek Carr was the second coming of Christian Hackenberg, but that’s the world of sports talk.
Today I’m focusing on what the Jets could look like on offense, if they were to sign Derek Carr, because as you all know, that’s my preference.
🐬 The Dolphins officially hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator. The former Broncos head coach worked with the Eagles over the last two weeks in preparation for the Chiefs. Considering the Eagles had multiple defensive breakdowns in the Super Bowl and surrendered 38 points, I’m not too concerned.
❄️ The Bills announced that they had hired Adam Henry as their WR coach. That’s interesting for two reasons. The first is that Zach Azzanni interviewed for both the Bills and Jets WR coach positions, so now the Bills are off the table for him. The second is Adam Henry is very close to OBJ, so could we be seeing OBJ in the AFC East next year?
🦁 The Jets also requested an interview with Seth Ryan for that WR coach position. Ryan is the son of Rex Ryan and he’s currently acting as the assistant wide receiver coach for the Lions. You’ll see why I find that interesting below.
⚜️ The New Orleans Saints hired former Browns defensive coordinator to be their new DC. The Browns had the 20th ranked defense last season allowing 22.4 points per game. The Saints have plenty to work
🐆 Parks Frazier is reuniting with Frank Reich in Carolina as their passing game coordinator. Parks has been with the Colts since 2018 but joins his former boss in a new city. I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the staff being put together there.
🫡 The Washington Commanders will interview Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy tomorrow for their vacant OC job. It sounds as though it’s between Bieniemy and Greg Roman.
🐆 Jaguars’ receiver Calvin Ridley, who was suspended last season after being accused of betting on games while he played with the Falcons, applied o the NFL yesterday for reinstatement. Yesterday was the first day Ridley could apply.
What would the Jets offense look like if they signed Derek Carr?
Whether you want him or think its worth going all out for Aaron Rodgers, it’s worth considering how the Jets could line up next year if they decide to gamble on Carr.
We’ve spoken about Carr at length on TJW and we’ve looked at all the stats that make me believe he’s a good choice for this team. We won’t go into that again, but the one thing that is worth repeating is that it will take zero draft picks to secure Carr.
If you want Aaron Rodgers on this team then you need to accept that we’re going to have to part with draft picks to make it happen. Peter King originally said it was going to take two first round draft picks, the Packers aren’t getting that.
