Good morning! ☕
We officially play football in less than one week. Sure it’s a pre-season game and sure the starters will likely only play a handful of snaps if any at all. But if you read TJW on a daily basis, which I’m presuming you do…I know you’re the diehards who like me get excited about seeing that UDFA who I’d never heard of play in a game I never knew I’d be so excited about.
So grab that cup of coffee or cup of 🍵, put the fork down 🥞 so you can scroll, and let's get into it.
(Randomly I had a stuffed croissant 🥐 with prosciutto ham, onion, lettuce and feta cheese yesterday while I was out. It was incredible)
🤕🚑 Let’s start this with the injury news. TE C.J. Uzomah was officially activated from the PUP list after being cleared to play. Mekhi Becton was also in uniform and back on the field which was a great sign. There was a video of Breece Hall cutting which is great to see. John Franklin-Myers and Allen Lazard were still missing. Corey Davis sat out with an illness and Garrett Wilson left practice with an ankle injury, Saleh confirmed it’s not serious.
Thoughts - When you hear that Mekhi Becton is missing time with knee soreness, you fear the worst. Having him back out there straight away is a really positive step, it also means the doctors, coaches and player are working together to ensure he’s absolutely comfortable in the process. He was in on individual drills but sat out team drills, but the fact he’s in at all is a really positive sign.
Saleh confirmed that JFM would miss a few days, so him missing today was no surprise. Same with Lazard, that’s not deemed serious so hopefully, he’s back soon.
The really good sign was seeing Breece cutting, that’s a huge hurdle for any RB returning from a knee injury, so to see him do it and at a little pace is a positive step in his rehab process.
With Corey Davis and Allen Lazard on the sidelines with an illness and injury respectively, and Garrett Wilson leaving practice, that opened up some opportunities for other receivers. No surprise, but Jason Brownlee took it. He scored on two different red-zone opportunities including this one from Aaron Rodgers.
