A few short comments

The Stephens signing is still the biggest negative Jet transaction being discussed on twitter by the “ so called “ experts.

When you mentioned Leon Johnson, my mind shifted over to running back Michael Carter who was also a fourth round pick.

After having a better than average rookie year, he has really turned into a non factor.

Back to Johnson, when Parcells had Johnson threw a half back option pass in a must win late season game against Detroit, Parcells first year it cost the Jets a playoff spot.

For all his brilliance, Tuna out smarted Tuna.

Also, they rarely ever show that play because it seemed to be out of bounds. The league it seems was giving love to the down trodden Lions.

Though it is a totally different situation, Fields feels like Vinny Testaverde II and for some ridiculous reason Cook feels like Pennington II. Yes, I know Pennington was more talented.

No need to apologize, since I tend to put out things “ with my tongue in cheek,” the mere fact so many knuckleheads would gather in Coney Island to watch this absurdity is a farce, the fact that ESPN televises it and treats it like a championship fight is a bigger farce.

The mere fact anyone would soak a hot dog roll into water is criminal.

By the way, Nathan’s hot dogs suck.

Nutritional Analytics from Joey Chestnuts 70.5 devoured hot dogs.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

* Calories: 70.5 hot dogs * (170 calories/hot dog) + 70.5 buns * (130 calories/bun) = 20,938 calories

* Total Fat: 70.5 hot dogs * 18 grams of fat/hot dog = 1,269 grams of fat

* Carbohydrates: 70.5 hot dogs * 28 grams of carbohydrates/hot dog = 1,974 grams of carbohydrates

* Protein: 70.5 hot dogs * 10 grams of protein/hot dog = 705 grams of protein

Rumor has it that Harry Ramsden fast food restaurant in London will be sponsoring a “ Fish & Chips” eating contest.

I wonder if David is ready to represent the Brigade, hold the tartar sauce.

I have never understood the people who do these food-eating contests. Why would they do that to themselves? With processed meats having been proven to be bad for us and can possibly cause cancer, why would someone eat so much of it anyway, but especially at one time? Then there's all the fat, carbs, and calories. Sad. I totally agree that's it's dumb for ESPN to televise it, but sadly, there's probably an audience for it. Just think about all the rubberneckers with traffic accidents. People are attracted by the morbid, and reality TV shows don't stay on the air because they're unpopular.

Being a native Coney Islander, I've been to dozens of this event, and it's actually run pretty well. The NYPD has good control of things. The street it's on runs from Surf Avenue to the boardwalk and is completely blocked off. Even during the bad old days, there were never any real issues because everyone had a good time, and it brought a lot of money to the area. I even had a tryout one year when I was in my early 20's and I could only choke down 21. And that was with the dog and bun together. Nowadays they eat the dogs separately from the bun and soak the bun in water because the wet bread goes down easier. My son loves spicy stuff and one year he entered a chili-pepper eating contest and ate 36 of them. He came in third and it took about a week for his sense of taste to fully return, lol. I know what you're saying, but people are going to do what want to do. Plus, it's an international event. People all over the world watch it and many travel to be there. It's all about notoriety.

It’s always about the money

Here's a breakdown:

Competition Winnings: The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest offers a $10,000 prize to the winner.

Sponsorships: Chestnut has lucrative sponsorship deals, including one with Impossible Foods, which has been a major contributor to his earnings.

Other Appearances and Deals: He also earns from appearances and other endorsements.

Net Worth: Celebrity Net Worth estimates his net worth at $3.5 million, while other sources, like FanSided, put it closer to $4 million.

Supposedly he is good for $500,000 a year

Holy crap! Unreal! All that money isn’t going to do him a big of good if he drops dead from a heart attack or has to spend it all trying to cure cancer.

Sadly, the quality of Nathan's hot dogs was cratered over the decades. My first job, at 13, was working a hot dog grill at Nathan's in Coney Island. I was actually born in Coney Island, on West 15th Street, because it was the hottest day of the summer and the streets were jammed. I was delivered by the local midwife, an Italian lady named Laura, who was also the neighborhood chiropractor (she popped my dislocated shoulder back in once and several of my fingers, lol.) and mental health counselor. I went to grammar school at Our Lady of Solace on Mermaid Avenue. Family friends of my mom were managers at Nathan's and asked if I wanted to work there. I had to get working papers from the NYS School System. I worked there for about 2 years while in high school. Back then, the hot dogs were amazing, as were the crinkle cut french fries and lobster rolls. I still have some salt shakers from Nathan's that are over 70 years old. Those were the days.

Three points on Justin Fields, first Justin has been remarkably healthy throughout his college and Pro career. Second, Last year in Pittsburgh, Fields ran the Russel Wilson Offense, Justin was inserted at the last minute , due to injury . Steelers were always committed to Wilson. Third it’s been reported that Fields is exceptionally hard working, believe that this GoPro tool and hard work will make a significant difference in processing time.

Love Tyrod Taylor installing this new Offense, he is the man for the job, Engstrand has a pro’s pro supporting Fields, and developing this Offense. Hope , we see Adrian Martinez, only in the pre season, but this Engstrand Offense is tailor made for his skill set. It is interesting to see how a summer with the Lions, a successful UFL season, and a year on the Jets Practice Squad , has prepared him for this season.

I have some concerns about Brady Cook, first his injury history, and second, the Jets only gave Brady a 5,000 bonus with only a 30,000 guarantee . Wiegand got a 234,000 guarantee, Skinner 185, 000. Weston 200,000, not sure the Jets value Brady.

Great post! I didn't know that Fields ran the Russell Wilson offense for the Steelers, and was a last minute insertion as the starter. That's an important bit of info. Thanks!

I think Martinez probably has the edge on Cook. I didn't think that Cook was that great of a prospect, and at least financially, it doesn't look like the Jets are that high on him, either. Hopefully, he changes their minds and pushes Martinez for that PS job. I wouldn't hate it at all if the Jets kept both on the PS. Why not? Since Taylor has issues staying healthy at his age, and a lot of PS players never amount to anything, it's not like the Jets would be wasting a valuable spot.

J.O, you make a great point about the value the Jets may or may not have with regard to Brady Cook. The numbers support your thinking so I think it’s up to Brady to force them to re think that. I like the fit for him here as he also fits right in either Fields Taylor and Martinez as they are all athletic guys that can be effective when called upon to run. I think David’s right about the possibility of them both ending up on the practice squad.

With the international exemption for Wiegand, the Jets have 17 Practice Squad spots. Having two developing QB’s on your PS is not a problem. Once again Cook is a good fit, give him a redshirt year and see how he develops.

Great content for this time of year, David. I am probably the biggest justin Fields fan on your subscriber list. Saw every snap in college. Have no issue with him. My issue is with Woody and the Jets showing zero patience with whatever QB strategy they apply. They arguably have done the worst job of managing QB’s of any team in the NFL. Woody is way too involved. He is clueless. Everyone on the employee side is happy to take his money but the fans have been so screwed for so long. I always expected him to step away but when he did he gave operations to his brother who was proven to be an even bigger boob. I feel sorry for Justin because I think he will be on a short leash as insane as that sounds just because it’s the Jets.

Just an opinion, with no proof.

I think from the day Woody decided to fire Saleh, the negative press was probably the greatest it has ever been about Woody.

With the NFL headquarters in Manhattan, the mad hugger Roger Goodell probably heard enough.

Without any fanfare, he read the riot act to Woody.

Not exactly the NFL forcing the Giants to hire George Young but the pressure was on.

The fact Tannenbaum and Spielman interviewed 33 applicants, is not exactly Woody’s way of doing buisness

I think Woody will be quiet for at least two years.

Another problem with the Jets has been the OCs that the HCs have brought in.

Bringing in Rodger’s personal coffee gopher or Saleh’s best friend’s brother or taking phone calls from Peyton Manning, who has zero connections with the Jets,isn’t exactly how teams get to the Super Bowl.

Just an opinion.

I think AG will fight for him so the leash won't be so short. I also think AG will speak up to Woody and not take as much shit as the previous guys.

Douglas Hunt's avatar

Hope you are right! Saleh was so immature that say. He let Woody call the shots.

Craig Collins's avatar

I hear your concern, Douglas, but I have to believe that Glenn believes in Fields, and so he will not have Fields on a short leash. I think Glenn told Woody that if Woody wanted him to take the HC job, Woody would have to step back and not interfere. I agree with Bobber that I think Woody will give Glenn and Mougey two years before he starts trying to meddle. Personally, I hope that Glenn told Woody that if he tried to meddle he would kick his ass and then quit as HC of the Jets

I meant to come back to comment on the 4th of July post, but forgot. Several hours after reading David's post I checked FB and in my memories popped up a meme with a picture of Queen Elizabeth wishing Americans a Happy Traitors Day! LOL Have you ever seen it, David? I immediately thought of you.
