Good morning ☕
So the Jets have finally made the move…Zach Wilson heads to the bench for the third time in three years and now we get to watch a player who’s TD to INT ratio makes me wonder why he’s still in the league.
We’re going to mix things up this week with the Friday game. So there won’t be a TJW tomorrow but we’ll have one on Saturday to recap the Tim Boyle special!
🟢 Unfortunately, I’m at a point where I’m checking on the draft order rather than the playoffs scenarios. The Jets are currently slated to have the 11th pick in the draft and are only a game or so out of having a top-5 pick. We never thought we’d be getting a top-5 pick this year, did we?
⚪ The Jets have opened as 7-point underdogs against the Dolphins, and I’m surprised it’s that close based on what we’ve seen recently. I was fully expecting a 10-12 point underdog starting line.
🟢 The NFL started tracking 3rd down conversions around 45 years ago…no team in history has converted at a lower rate than the 2023 Jets…Nathaniel Hackett’s bunch of merry men are converting 22.9%. Absolutely horrendous.
⚪ Time to take a look at the sack culprits. According to PFF Max Mitchell was the only player to be responsible for more than one sack (2). However Carter Warren, Chris Glaser, Dalvin Cook and Joe Tippmann were all responsible for one. Laken Tomlinson was perfect for the Jets allowing 0 sacks and 0 pressures. Warren allowed 5 pressures, which led the team.
🟢 The Jets had four more drops yesterday with Garrett Wilson, Israel Abanikanda, Breece Hall and Jeremy Ruckert the culprits. Not seeing Lazard’s name on here
⚪ It’s very likely that Duane Brown will be back this week because the Jets have to activate him by Thursday: “We have until Thursday, we are going to try and lean on him a little bit this week to see where he is at. Not lean on him from a pressure standpoint, but just try to get him some physical contact to see how he feels and see whether or not he feels like he can get out there and we will make that decision on Thursday.”
🟢 Life for a fringe player on an NFL team is interesting…Tanzel Smart was released again.
⚪ This from ESPN Stats and Information…not that we need this graphic to know the offence has been awful under Robert Saleh
◼️ I don’t think that Tim Boyle is the answer at QB, there’s a reason he’s started 3 games in 5 years, but I do understand why the Jets have made the move.
I’d have personally gone with Siemian, but if you’re not going to give Boyle the first shot following a benching then you’re almost admitting that he shouldn’t be on the roster.
Robert Saleh did confirm that Siemian will be the immediate backup to Boyle but all three QBs will dress. On the decision to go with Boyle, Saleh confirmed:
“Just give him an opportunity. He is a different style of quarterback, so really it was just to give him an opportunity to see if we can do something with the offense.”
The base numbers on Boyle are not overly attractive.
