Good morning! ☕
I had some really good content suggestions yesterday and I’m going to do my best to get to all of them over the coming months.
If you have any ideas then simply comment below, reply to the email, DM me on Twitter or you can send an owl, I don’t mind.
Today I’m going to be taking a look at the tight end room and projecting how it will all shake out in the 2023 season. The Jes have options, a lot of options. Thanks to Irish_Jets for the suggestion on today’s focus. If you’re on Twitter, give that man a follow.
💰 Mike Ozanian of Forbes compiled a list of the most profitable sports teams on the planet recently. The list was based on teams who generated the most operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) during the past three years. The Jets came in at #21 on the list, sandwiched between the Miami Dolphins (#20) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (#22). The Dallas Cowboys topped the list, followed by the New England Patriots with English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspurs coming in third. In total, 13 NFL teams made the cut showing why Roger Goodell is popular among the owners. There were 7 NBA teams on the list including the New York Knicks (#4). There were 4 Premier League teams and Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga.
🚑 Former Jets offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson has announced that he’s swapping cleats for scrubs, enrolling at nursing school: 'I wanted something that I could offer. Like, yes, I play football, but I have this,' Ferguson said. 'I'm qualified to do this work and I play football. So if both of them help or encourage one another, great. But even without football I can still do my job with excellence, that's something we learned as athletes.'
👍 Jets left tackle Duane Brown spoke to the official channel, explaining that his focus is to get healthy: "Still got plenty left," he said. "I still feel like I played a high level. I want to get as healthy as possible. Obviously, last year I was playing way less than 100 percent, so I want to get healthy and be able to play at the level I'm accustomed to and with the team we have, this is a great shot to win. I've done everything you could probably ask for individually in my career, but I want to win and I want to be the best version of myself to contribute to that."
📈 Former Jets Head Coach Eric Mangini was on with NBC to talk about Aaron Rodgers ‘Everything changed for the Jets when they got Aaron Rodgers, and for good reason. People in New York should be excited, they’ve got a chance in every game, they’ve got a chance to go to the playoffs, it’s just different. The offensive line will be better, the running backs will be better, and the defence will be better…they also got him much earlier than we got Brett, we got Brett in the pre-season, they got him in the off-season and an offensive coordinator who’s worked with him. We had to adapt our offence to maximise Brett’s potential strengths.’
😍 Aaron Rodgers was back at practice, which makes that ridiculous NYDN back page look even worse than it did at the time. He also happened to unload this stunner of a pass, which is probably the best-thrown ball I’ve seen from a player wearing a Jets jersey since Brett Favre, which is both exciting and extremely depressing.
How are the Jets going to use their tight end room in 2023? They certainly have multiple options and plenty of talent, but how will they get everyone involved?
Last year the Jets broke camp with four tight ends on the roster, C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert and Lawrence Cager.
Teams usually carry between 2-4 tight ends on the roster. The Cleveland Browns broke with 2 last year, and the Miami Dolphins did break with 5 but Gesicki is basically a wide receiver and the Dolphins only carried 5 wide receivers. The majority of teams go for three.
