Edition #1113: Braelon Allen says he's better than ever and the Jets workout a former Browns receiver.
Good Morning ☕
Most of you know that I work for a sports broadcaster full-time and today the World Cup begins, a marquee event for us. So I will apologise in advance if I don’t respond to comments as much as I usually do. As you can imagine, the workload is intense and the pressure is high.
The timings of the games mean that I will largely be nocturnal for at least the next two weeks with the group stages in full flow. It’s why I decided to not stay up and watch the Knicks game last night, but that didn’t stop me waking up and checking the score and seeing us down 25 points. Imagine my surprise when I woke up at 6am and checked the final score.
Today is going to be a quick, short one as we run through some news and notes.
NEWS & NOTES 🗞️
The Jets hosted former Cleveland Browns receiver and kick returner Kaden Davis for a workout yesterday. Davis was a UDFA back in 2022. He’s floated between the NFL and USFL and had two stints in Denver where his name would have become familiar to Darren Mougey and he was with the Lions in 2024 where he would have crossed paths with Glenn.
Jamien Sherwood has been reflecting on his 2026 season:
"There were areas where I need to improve, there were some good plays, there were some bad plays," Sherwood, 26, said. "I just felt for myself I definitely could be more consistent than I was. That's another thing that I do look for going into the season. That's just studying more, staying after practice more and just being a better teammate."
Aaron Glenn believes having Demario Davis next to him will help him regain some of that form that earned him a contract extension:
“I think with Demario Davis being next to him, that’s going to help him out a lot because he’s still a young player and he is a player that came from being a safety to being a linebacker. So having somebody that’s been in this league for a long time as Demario sitting right beside him, it could only help him. Any player that’s self-aware and will critique themselves like that on a year-to-year basis, always good.”
Braelon Allen was jokingly asked if his kickoff return days were behind him:
“I’m willing to do whatever they ask me to, but uh, I’m crossing my fingers that they don’t ask me to do that again. But I am more than willing to do whatever is asked of me, of course.”
Glenn is excited to see what Allen can do now that he’s healthy:
“To see him out there, see him run around, to see a big man that is agile, that obviously you know you can use in the run game, but to be able to use him in the passing game. That was the vision with him, Breece [Hall], and Isaiah [Davis] last year. Obviously, that didn’t come to fruition. Man, I’m just looking forward to seeing him get out in camp and be a part of that three-headed monster, is what I call them as far as running backs,”
This was a really cool story by Rich Cimini on three generations of Ryan’s coaching with the Jets:
Rex Ryan: “When I had the opportunity to be the head coach, I chose the Jets over another team because the Jets were my dad’s team. My dad always wore his Jets [Super Bowl] ring. He never wore the Bears ring. He was proud to be a Jet. So this is [Seth’s] team, too. This is the team he wanted to coach. What he’s going to add to that franchise is going to be incredible. That’s a smart son of a gun now.”
Seth Ryan: “This means a lot to our family, and in my family we have kind of a saying with all coaches,” he began. “My grandfather told my dad, ‘I need you to be a little bit better than me.’ My dad told me, ‘I need you to be better than me. So I chose offense to make sure that was going to happen.”
My favourite quote from yesterday came courtesy of Armand Membou when he was asked for his impressions on new acquisition T’Vondre Sweat, and he simply replied: “A big-ass dude.”
Aaron Glenn spoke about adding Jason Sanders to the kicking competition:
“Obviously he did a really good job in Miami, and … anytime we can get a good player that can create competition, we want to bring the player in to create that.”
Finally a couple of injury updates.
Kenyon Sadiq who had hernia surgery is back running and doing agility drills, there is no danger of him missing any time at camp barring a setback which would be a surprise.
Cade Klubnik didn’t practice with some back tightness but he’s absolutely fine and will take part in minicamp next week.

I understand that the Jets are doing their due diligence in bringing in Kaden Davis but with Isiah Willliams, Kene Nwangwu and Isaiah Davis returning kicks the last two years, it seems a bit of an over kill especially with 2025 UDFA Fan Favorite Jamaal Pritchett on the 90 man roster.
I think the Brigade would be happier if the Jets were kicking the tires more on linebackers, offensive linemen and maybe a placekicker or two.
From a website called Football Guys
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen said he currently weighs 250 pounds, which is up from the 238 to 240 pounds he was at last season.
Our view: Allen was drafted just after his 20th birthday and seems to bulk up every offseason. Last season was cut short by injury, but he's still just 22 years old. Breece Hall's extension puts him an injury away from any meaningful workload, but Allen is a great dynasty stash and late-round best ball target.
We know that current NFL coaching staffs are the size of a small army.
Seeing Buddy Ryan’s name with the Super Bowl winning Jets reminds us how much different even coaching staffs were
The complete coaching staff that guided the Jets to their historic championship:
* Weeb Ewbank: Head Coach & General Manager
* Clive Rush: Offensive Coordinator
* Walt Michaels: Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers Coach
* Ken Meyer: Wide Receivers Coach
* Joe Spencer: Offensive Line Coach
* Buddy Ryan: Defensive Line Coach
* That’s it, Weeb Ewbank was historically cheap and quite frugal with money, I guess in his mine as far as coaches go less was better than more.
Lastly, the Chiefs extended Mahomes contract to pay him a miserly $500,000+ for the life of his total contract.
Just to prove, what a disaster McCagnan was as a GM. He was quoted as saying after Mahomes had his first breakout year, that He knew that Mahomes would become a star, he had him rated very highly but he couldn’t draft him because he had drafted Christian Hackenberg the previous year and wanted to give him a chance to establish himself.
I’m not saying that Hackenberg was bad but I think he is the only second rounder in NFL draft history to never appear in an NFL game, he never even participated in one regular season play.
Great scouting job Mike.
Wow 🤯Knicks incredible comeback from 28 points was incredible! Very interested in seeing how Braelon Allen looks this season. In my opinion he’s our biggest “ Boom or Bust” player. Great size, speed and overall talent. But big jacked guys like Allen often have problems staying healthy especially with soft tissue injuries. Something to keep an eye on for sure!
