Welcome back David, hope you and your family are feeling well.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but this upcoming game with the Gmen historically is the type of game the Jets normally lose.

I think that when Douglas and Saleh were both hired, they knew that to be successful, that had to exorcise a few demons that have followed the Jets over the years.

How many times have we seen the Jets play well a whole game, lead most of the game and blow it on the opposing teams last drive as the clock was winding down. Hopefully the Denver and the Eagles endings has changed that mind set. I think that fans think right now, it’s our time, we will stop them.

This current defense, especially in the second half, plays as if they can will a win by their heart and determination while historically the Jets have performed like lambs during crunch time, mutton anyone, especially with mint jelly.

If the Jets can get off of the snide of losing when they should have won, there is no reason to believe that they can’t beat the Chargers at home and the Raiders on the road.

The Chargers with all their talent just can’t seem to put it all together.

Hopefully it stays that way when they visit.

Here’s a little nugget from todays Peter King Monday morning column

Here’s what I bet was most bothersome for Brandon Staley watching the tape of the game on the plane home from Kansas City last night: Next Gen Stats showed that of the five sacks on Herbert in KC, four came without a blitz. And though Herbert was in the middle of a maelstrom of rushers throughout the second half, he was not blitzed a single time by Kansas City in the final two quarters—and the Chargers scored zero points in five second-half possessions. Yikes.

THAT SORTS OF PLAY INTO HOW THE JETS PLAY DEFENSE

AS FAR AS OAKLAND GOES, I DON’T REALLY THINK JOSH MCDANIELS IS A GOOD HC. Without BRADY, he is like a knight without his armor.

I wonder how Garoppolo will feel that day knowing Huff, JJ, JFM and company will be bearing down on him for four quarters. Is it possible his back injury starts up again.

Awful still unfortunately, and it's now hit the 5-month old who had to be cradled to sleep last night which isn't overly comfortable, usually she goes down without any issues, but that wasn't the case last night. Shame there wasn't a late Jets game for me to watch.

You're absolutely right and I've been thinking about that. As I watched the Giants performance against the Commanders this morning, my initial reaction was...we should dominate that offence. Then my Jets reaction was, man this is the biggest trap game we've had. But...I also thought the Denver game was a trap and we worked through that one.

I assume that it’s your oldest child first year in nursery. Unfortunately, she will be the carrier all year, bringing new germ friends home constantly.

This is the one part of parenting young children that parents really take a physical beating. I hope it misses your wife.

The Jets favored on the road to a beaten up team screams TRAP!!!

Hopefully Saleh can exorcise the demons.

Agree 100%. Let me say that the Jets are not as Vanilla as they once were. I am seeing more overload blitzes, than ever, Rex would be proud. As teams slide their protection, to keep Huff at Bay , Jets counter with a blitz. JJ lines up in various positions, making him hard to find. Both Johnson and Huff have on occasion dropped into coverage. Quincy is the most devastating blitzer, but Adams and Carter have been effective.

the Dolphins right now are in 1st. But they're beatable - how did Buffalo beat them? How did Philadelphia beat them? Looks like I'm downloading both those games and watching them this week.

Patriots. I'm sick of them, even though they did what we needed, hang another L on Buffalo. But man, this dink'n'dunk that Mac Jones does - reminds me so much of what McCarthy & Dak did to our D in week 2. If the DC doesn't adjust, sending only 4 rushers and keeping back Seven in soft mode, that (the dink'n'dink 3-5 yards downfield in front of pass defenders) is the Achilles Heel of our Defense.

Simple Math; our front four, yes, do apply some pressure up to the 2.5 - 3 second time stamp of the pass rush, but will be beat by a quick release like Dak did, like Mac Jones did yesterday. Answer: Send 5 (Quincy, you're up to bat!), press cover for the first 2 seconds, knocking all those timing routes off, forcing Mac to go beyond the 3 second mark making his reads; and watching him go Deer-in-Headlights when the Huff-JJ-Quincy-Quinnen crash down upon his punk ass.

And an FYI, I hold Mac Jones in contempt ever since when as a rookie - a fuckin' Rookie!!! - he was jollying it up on the sideline in a game where the Patriots were beating the Jets. No Fuckin' Respect, and he plain and simple HADN'T YET EARNED ENOUGH STRIPES TO BE MOCKING VET PLAYERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE! Everytime we play the Pats, I want to see the Jets plant his punk ass into the ground, get him to give his whiney, crybaby terror-face in post game conferences like he has in bad losses since his rookie year. Pro Bowl my Ass! He's a BUM.

(... go ahead, CGV, don't hold back; tell us how you really feel ...)

Giants up next. Yep, makins of a trap game. I don't see that happening; these guys are keeping each other in check. Big Psychological advantage, of course - the QB Whisperer. Hopefully he'll be on the sideline again for this one. Another advantage - voices of humility rising from the next men up: Bryce Hall, riding a resurgence, stating how honored he is to celebrate with this team. That carries weight, guys - everyone expects a CJ Mosely, a Breece Hall to ante up like that, but when you hear it from a guy coming off the bench, playing like he hasn't bee riding the pine for a year, and give credit to the team? oooh, man - chills of inspiration up the arm on that one.

Sidenotes:

> The Chargers did not look like much; their defense seems slow. And what's with Keenan Allen trying his best impression of Garrett Wilson after the catch? That man is more a cross between Lazard & Conklin.

> The Bills defense did not look ANYTHING like what we saw in week one. Injuries: No TreDavious White (#1CB), no Matt Milano (he's the guy who helmet speared Mike White in the ribs last year and no call fm the refs); no DaQuan Jones, no Ed Oliver at least vs NE - Oliver should be back, but those first two injuries = a softer Bills Defense that can be run and passed on.

K, time to get ready to play the little gints and their big mouth leader, shithahd ward.

Can't Wait.

A couple of things 1) The narrative that the jets didnt use or know how to use Hardman is BS. The Jets found a gem in a UDFA in Gipson. He is that player that simple. The Jets handled the situation with class in trading Hardman back to the Cheifs. 2) Cn't beat the Eagles and lose to the Ginats. These are not the old Jets where you go into the game figuring they will lose - they won't. They have dusted themselves off after th Rogers loss and are 1 bad call (Chiefs)and some shaky offense (Pats) from being 5-1. The AFC EST IS WIDE OPEN AND WE CONTROL OUR DETSINY !

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced, and Bill Belichek was thought to be on his way out. The Patriots are not a good team, but Bill out coaches our coach’s and yesterday Bill out coached the Buffalo Bills. I’m afraid Bill will be a pain for another couple of years. Bill like all HC’s, fate is tied to that 2021 QB draft , “stealing” Mac Jones with the 15th pick of the First Round. With the possible exception of Trevor Lawrence, all the 2021 QB’s have struggled. Very Happy to see the Eagles spank the Dolphins, Miami was beginning to look unbeatable with Tua and Tyreek, the Eagles brought them back to earth.

Giants dominated the first half , like Tyrod Taylor as a QB, hope we face the 40 Million QB Daniel Jones.

I don’t like our chances of getting any deals done. But I would like to see Terrace Mitchell from Carolina for a Fourth round pick. I would also like to bring back Trystan Colon from the Cardinals for a sixth.

I wouldn't count on JD giving up many, if any, draft picks in trades unless he can get something for Cook and Lawson.

That could be true. The Jets will not have a Second, Fifth or Seventh Round pick in 2024 . But will have an additional Fourth and possibly a compensation pick in the Sixth and Seventh ( first compensation picks since 2015 ) The Jets are in a different spot than usual, it’s early but we are in the hunt for a playoff spot. If it takes a fourth or a sixth, to get a player than improves out chances this year I’m all in. I will say that MONEY is a limiting factor, , reference the Renfro or Devante Adams deal, the Jets CAP is tight in 2024

They also are going to have a lot of FAs, and quite likely will lose a starter, perhaps 2-3 starters, and with limited cap space, especially if they extend both Huff and Becton (which they should imo), they probably aren't going to be able to be big players in FA, so they will have to capitalize on their draft picks. With Rodgers, being out, they may be hesitant to go all the way in this season and use any more cap space or draft capital. They may decide to save both for next season when Rodgers will definitely be back. I won't get upset if he does give away a pick or two to rent a player for this season, but I'd rather he just play it out with the players he has, and save the resources for next season. I believe that Zach will continue to improve and his confidence will grow, and he will play better and better, but I'm not sure that will be enough for this season to justify using resources that could be better put to use in 2024.

Hi guys, I now live in the Philippines. For the last number of years, I have watched the Jets games as well as the Giants ( I root for both though the Jets are my team), on the NFL Game Pass Package. For most of the year we are 12 hours ahead of the US East coast. A great part of the subscription is being able to watch the game in 40 minutes, thereby avoiding all commercials. This has worked great until this season. The NFL for whatever reason transitioned over to DAZN this year. In the past, using the 1p games as an example, the games would be concluded in roughly 3 hours (4p US time, 4A Monday my time). It would then typically take a couple of hours for them to re-format the game into the 40 minute version. I wake up around 6A and I could usually watch it then. Now, for whatever reason, this isn't happening. Today , I planned on watching the 1p Giants game. It is now 845 Monday night here and the 40 minute version is still not up, roughly about 16 hours later. Does anybody have the NFL game pass package. David, knowing that you live in the UK , how do you watch the games? Do you watch them in their entirety including commercials ? I am really very unhappy with what's going on with this. I would like to directly contact the NFL as DAZN customer service has not been very helpful. Does anybody have a contact number to reach somebody at the NFL or email address if not the former. Much thanks.

hey Phil,

been decades since I was in the PI (former Navy). Fond memories, beautiful land, a lovely people. No better friends, no worse enemies.

have you considered downloading full games, sans commercials? If you have hi speed i'net, this can work. Games are around 2.5-3.5 Gb in size, typically HD 1280x720.

Interesting you brought up the whole offseason QB carousel because I was chatting about that whole situation yesterday with a friend. Rodgers is here so it is what it is but one can’t help but wonder if it was the best long term solution? He’s been great as a teammate but is that enough to justify the money he’s gonna be eating up going forward! Minus the Rodgers addition maybe we have a quality OT in addition to Joe Tippman and maybe we could have been big players in April’s draft this spring. This draft is expected be rich at QB, OT, WR and even S. All positions we need to strengthen. There were QB’s like Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew, Josh Dobbs, and several others as well that could have given us decent competition for Zach. It will be interesting to see how the rest of our season goes. If it ends well with a playoff appearance and if Zach’s play is still trending up none of these conversations will matter. Hopefully things don’t go south because theses same thoughts and conversations will reappear for sure.

I'd have loved to be rooting for Josh Dobbs, but that was never going to happen. Sane teams don't simply hand the keys of a team with playoff potential over to a backup who's hardly ever started. I still think Jacoby Brissett would've been good. I, also, thought it would've been cool to pair Jaxon Smith-Njigba with his former teammate, Garrett Wilson.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I have been a Dobbs fan since his days at Tennessee. My thinking was to bring him in in a Teddy Bridgewater Sam Darnold situation and let them decide it on the field. Brissett was always my top choice as he’s had a good amount of time as a starter and he actually had similar numbers to Aaron Rodgers last season in his 11 starts.
