Good morning! ☀️
Saturday the Wyatt-Hupton clan grew by one with the birth of my second daughter Millie. It brought to a close a very tiring, boring, and mentally taxing week in hospital.
I like to plan these babies properly though, my first was born in April 2020, so both arrived outside of football season. I'm writing this with a baby asleep on me, so please forgive the odd mistake here and there 😉
I’ve been trying to keep a close eye on all things Jets, and there are two big stories as far as I can see. Becton’s comments on the tackle situation and Rich Cimini’s reports on Quinnen Williams.
We have a ton to get to today, so let’s hop straight in.
✍️ The Jets officially signed Zack Kuntz to his rookie deal. Kuntz is perhaps one of the more interesting prospects to watch. He’s an incredible athlete having scored a perfect 10/10 on his relative athletic score. In fact, the only mark he didn’t score elite in was his weight, and he’s a 255lb guy who runs a 4.55 with a 1.55 10-yard split. But being a good athlete will only take you so far. We’re going to take a deep dive into Zack later this week, so make sure you get subscribed for that one.
✍️ Kuntz wasn’t the only one to sign, linebacker Zaire Barnes also signed his rookie deal. Barnes is no slouch either in terms of his RAS score having achieved a 9.12. He scored elite in terms of his speed, great for his agility, good for his explosion grade, and just okay for his size, mostly down to his weight coming in at 233 lbs.
👏 The Jets also announced their official UDFA signings. There are a couple of very interesting names in here and if you ask me to pick out one player on each side of the ball who will end up making the roster, I’d say Trey Dean III on the defensive side and Jason Brownlee on the offensive side. That wide receiver room is absolutely packed so it’s not a straightforward route.
😁 New Jets offensive tackle Billy Turner appeared on the Mad Dog Sports Radio show on Saturday and had this to say about Aaron Rodgers, who looks 10 years younger since moving to the East Coast. Some people need a change to revitalize, it certainly looks like Aaron Rodgers was one of those people.
“The dude just shows up to work, and he’s just so f---ing happy right now," Turner said. "It’s very cool to witness and see because it doesn’t matter how long you’re in this profession, it’s the type of profession where regardless of how long you spend in it, you can always experience something new. And he’s experiencing something new for the first time in his career, and it’s cool to be part of and watch.”
📈 The Jet’s appeared at #9 on the Peter King power rankings yesterday with the senior NFL reporter saying the team is on the border of competing for a Super Bowl: “N.Y. Jets. It’s logical to think Aaron Rodgers will lift all Jets, and I believe he will. Rodgers is the kind of person who can set his mind to something—such as showing the Packers and the world he’s not kaput entering his age-40 season—and go out and do it.”
