☀️ Good morning ☕
Are the 2024 Jets a likeable team?
I was asked that yesterday and my immediate answer was no.
Yesterday we has Sauce biting back at reporters for saying he had the most costly missed tackle, we have Quincy online saying this before quickly deleting it.
IMO it’s not a very good team and it’s not a very likable team. The lack of real accountability still permeates this team, and at the end of the day I’m not sure how much some of these guys care, like Quincy put so eloquently, it’s just a job.
Tyron Smith is having an MRI on his neck after sustaining an injury against the Cardinals. Fashanu came in and played 33 snaps, which included 28 pass-blocking snaps. He allowed 2 pressures, 0 sacks and was one of the highest graded run blockers on the team. If Smith misses time at least we can get our franchise left tackle some key reps with the season lost.
Jeff Ulbrich said there was "an egregious, criminal amount of missed tackles." According to Next Gen Stats it was 20, according to PFF it was 17. Who cares, it was a lot and this is following a week where the focus was on tackling. PFF had the following missed tackles culprits - Tony Adams (3), Jalen Mills (3), Jamien Sherwood (2), Javon Kinlaw (2), Sam Eguavoen (2), Sauce Gardner (1), Isaiah Oliver (1), Quincy Williams (1), Quinnen Williams (1), DJ Reed (1).
Ulbrich didn’t believe physicality was the issue, he thought it was technique and fundamentals - "I didn't think the strain, the effort, the physicality, was the issue on defense," HC Jeff Ulbrich said. "It was just the fundamentals, the base fundamentals, the technique and doing those things will win you games. And if you don't, it will lose your games, especially if you're not on point with it. We just got to be better in that way." Honestly, I thought it was both.
Jamien Sherwood wasn’t ready to blame Jeff Ulbrich: “I did feel like we were prepared well. On the defensive side of the ball, everything that they did to us in the game, we practiced that. So I personally wouldn't blame him. ... It's about the 11 players that are on the field at that time we just didn't go out there & execute. So I would not put the blame on him. I definitely will put the blame on my shoulders because I am the Mike backer. I am the one w/ the green dot. ... So I will point the finger at myself before I say it was his fault."
The coverage on Sunday was horrendous, you can’t escape that. Sauce was targeted 3 times and allowed 3 catches, Reed was targeted 5 times and allowed 4 completions, Quincy was targeted 5 times and allowed 5 catches, Tony Adams was targeted 3 times and allowed 3 catches. All in all it was a day to forget, the coverage seemed soft and concepts too basic, Murray knew exactly where to go with the ball every single time and it didn’t look as though he got out of 2nd gear.
Davante Adams was targeted over double Garrett Wilson (13 v 6). Wilson brought in 83.3% of his targets, Adams brought in 46.2% of his targets. Adams also had another drop. That trade has really been a train-wreck so far. Rodgers is so desperately wanting to connect with his old buddy, it’s impacting the gameplan. At this point there is no way that Adams should be getting over double the number of targets as Garrett, especially as a lot of them were forced.
The Fans have given up on the season, but Sherwood isn’t there yet: "As a man, you got to find the good within all the bad, For myself, it's going to be about still being the leader, still trying to bring positivity to everybody that's in the room, everybody in the building. Nobody is giving us a chance to win all these seven games, but as long as you have the mindset to go out there and do your best and try to turn things around, again, you never know what could happen."
With Miami beating the LA Rams last night, the Jets dropped into 3rd place in the AFC East and their draft pick now stands at #8 overall.
I’ve heard a lot of people call for the Jets to hire Pete Carroll. While I love Pete and think he’s the exact kind of leader the Jets need to turn this franchise around, it’s not realistic to expect the Jets to make that hire.
