π¨βπ³βοΈ The Jets signed Dalvin Cook to a guaranteed $5.8 million one-year deal this off-season, and the former Viking carried a $7 million cap hit for the Jets this season, the kind of sum that could have gone to a suitable backup QB. Yesterday the Jets released Cook to enable him to catch on elsewhere, bringing an end to the ill-fated relationship. All the advanced stats warned against the signing of Cook based on his decline in certain metrics, but the Jets signed him anyway. The result? 67 carries for 214 yards, 3.2 yards per carry and 0 touchdowns. He also only had 78 receiving yards on the season, fumbled the ball twice and was tagged for 2 sacks in 33 pass block reps. The 2023 off-season was a horror show for Joe Douglas outside of the Aaron Rodgers deal, and that may prove to be an unwise investment as well. Letβs hope 2024 is better.
