Good morning! ☕
The Jets are heading down to Carolina tomorrow for some joint practices, they’ll then face the Panehts at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It’s a 4EST kickoff, so make sure if you have any plans, they’re morning plans.
With no practice, it’s a very slow news day. The Jets signed defensive lineman Bruce Hector to the 90-man squad, that’s a depth piece. He’s bounced around the league since signing with the Eagles as a UDFA out of South Florida in 2018. I did wonder if he was related to former Jets RB Johnny Hector, but my research skills came up with nothing.
The Jets also cut Chris Streveler who injured his thumb against Cleveland and according to Brian Costello, they also cut defensive tackle Isaiah Mack.
We haven’t thrown some links around in a while as we’ve had camp notes to get to, but we’re going retro with the quick throws today.
Quinnen Williams is excited about the prospect of hitting someone other than his teammates. "Just ready to compete," Williams said. "Go against another team, a great team. A team with a great quarterback, a new quarterback coming, my Alabama guy. Going against a great offensive line and just competing each and every day and learning."
I didn’t share my Jets UK Column last week, which was all about Jamian Sherwood and how he’s ready to take off in 2023. “If the physical transformation is clear for all to see, the most underappreciated aspect of the transition from college safety to NFL linebacker is the mental adjustment. Sherwood credits the coaching staff and veterans like C.J. Mosley for providing the coaching needed from a scheme and technical point of view.”
PFN released their AFC East power rankings, and they had the Jets #3 in the division, although they posted it with a caveat that NY could be the best team in the division: “The Jets very well may be the best team in the division. In fact, it may not be particularly close. But until we see the offensive product on the field in the regular season, we must lean toward cautious optimism.”
