Good morning! ☕
I’ll be travelling back home today so forgive me for not being too active in the comments. I’m swapping rainy Scotland for the rainy east of England. We have some NFL rule changes to go over and some other bits and pieces, and then I’m going to outline the five biggest winners of free agency concerning the Jets.
🏈 New Kickoff Rule. Kickoffs are going to look a lot different after NFL owners have passed a new rule. It’s far too long to outline here, but you can read all about the new rule HERE. It will eliminate surprise onside kicks, but it’s designed to encourage more returns while also limiting the impact of collisions from players racing down the field. As a traditionalist, I’m not overly keen. But we’ll see how it goes. The resolution passed 29-3 and it’s set to be reviewed after the 2024 season.
🌲 Christmas Football. The NFL also announced that they will be playing two games on Christmas Day this year, which happens to be a Wednesday. The teams playing in those games will play on the Saturday before to give them a big enough rest. The 2023 season featured three games on Christmas Day.
✍️ Bucky Brooks Mock. The NFL analyst released his latest mock draft and he had the Jets taking Georgia man Brock Bowers: “With the team in win-now mode and Aaron Rodgers nearing the end of his career, the Jets could opt to take a pass catcher who can dominate the middle of the field.”
1️⃣ Williams Ready. “I will be ready for Week 1 of the season,” New Jets receiver Mike Williams said this week on the Adam Schefter podcast. “Everything’s looking good. Have a meeting with my doctor next week, so take some more steps, keep building and make my way up there.”
🏆 Title Hunting. Williams also stated his desire to win a Championship and said history didn’t matter when it came to the Jets and their playoff drought “Well, my goal is to get healthy, but going on Year 8, I want to win a Super Bowl, Whatever it takes to do that. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be the last team standing, holding that trophy up at the end. … and I want to be available for every game.”
✍️ The Jets officially announced they'd re-signed defensive lineman Jayln Holmes.
The NFL released an article outlining five players who were set to thrive next season thanks to off-season moves. The Jets failed to get a mention, which got me thinking about who the biggest winners are after an off-season of significant change within the organisation, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.
Here are my biggest winners for the Jets.
