Good Morning ☕
Taylor Embree won’t return to the Jets for the 2024 season, Mel Kiper has released his first mock draft of the off-season and Jeremy Ruckert talks about Aaron Rodgers. Let’s get to the news.
📤 We wondered why the Jets were interviewing running back coaches, well it’s been revealed that Taylor Embree who held that position with the Jets last year won’t return for the 2024 season. Embree joined Robert Saleh’s staff in 2021 and he was deemed an untouchable when Nathaniel Hackett was hired before the 2023 season. Not it seems the only person who’s untouchable is the guy who didn’t do his job very well. I have a lot of respect for Embree who seemed to get the best out of Breece Hall but was unable to eke out anything from Dalvin Cook. To me, that’s not on Embree. It’s part Cook being done, part the offensive line being a mess.
🦅 We know that Duce Staley interviewed with the Jets, but we also know that he was in Cleveland to interview with the Browns. We also know that the Jets will be interviewing Tony Dews who has an obvious connection with both offensive line coach Keith Carter and passing game coordinator Todd Downing, both of whom should consider themselves lucky to still be employed.
🏆 Center Joe Tippmann was voted to the PFWA's All-Rookie team yesterday. Tippmann was a backup to start the season but quickly became a starter due to injuries. He steadily grew as the season went on and by the end of the season I was pretty confident that we'd found our centre of the future.
🗳️ Mel Kiper released his first mock draft of the off-season yesterday and he had the Jets taking Olu Fashanu from Penn State, securing a top tackle to develop. “One year after the Jets got jumped by the Steelers in Round 1 and lost out on Broderick Jones, here's a chance for New York to get its left tackle of the present and future. It's the biggest void on the offence, especially with Mekhi Becton hitting free agency. As quarterback Aaron Rodgers makes his return to the lineup, he'd be thrilled to have Fashanu protecting his blind side. At 6-foot-6, 319 pounds, Fashanu has the physical traits and footwork of an elite lineman. He could have been a first-rounder in last year's draft if he had entered. He allowed one sack in 21 career starts for the Nittany Lions. He still hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling.”
☝️ Jets Tight End Jeremy Ruckert who showed some signs of development in 2023 has been talking to the official site about Aaron Rodgers’s expectations for his players."The big thing about the offseason is that we know what we're getting into with Aaron Rodgers," Ruckert, a Long Island native, said recently. "Last year there was uncertainty about when he was going to get here and how it was going to be. Everything was a new experience, where he changes everything at the line -- you have to kind of know what he's thinking and what he's expecting you to do. "To be able to spend the preseason with him, you'll be able to train your mind be able to do the kind of things he wants you to do so that in training camp you'll be able to click a lot sooner and we're excited about it. He's a Hall of Famer, you can tell when you're in the meeting room, or out on the field that he expects greatness out of you. And that's a great thing for a team and we're excited for that challenge."
🟢⚪ PFF released its top 150 free agents about to hit the market in March, and the Jets had several players on the list.
