Good morning!
We’re going to crack on with the Giants preview over the next two days, but today I’m looking at trades. I was having a chat with a buddy this morning about the Jets and what they’ll be looking for at the deadline and I settled on just two positions. Wide receiver and offensive line.
Could we potentially look at safety? Perhaps. We know the Jets love Tony Adams and they like what Jordan Whitehead brings to the table, but both Whitehead and Chuck Clark (always forget we’ve got him) are free agents, as are Adrian Amos and Ashtyn Davis.
Here’s what Aaron Rodgers had to say about his week of rehab: “It's been more of a grind the last week or so, but a lot of good things were trending towards trying to get down to 100% walking normally. I invited Eli [Manning] last night to play a little catch with me, so maybe on Sunday, I plan on being back for our game as the road team at MetLife. I haven't been on crutches since returning from the game on the 15th. But I don't quite have the strength in my calf to be able to walk without limping.” - He did confirm that he’ll be at the Jets/Giants game at the weekend.
The Jets announced that they’d added safety Jarrick Bernard-Converse to the active roster. They’ve also signed wide receiver Lance McCutcheon to the PS and released safety Tyreque Jones. I’m looking forward to seeing JBC after a long injury layoff since the draft. Lance was a UDFA out of Montana State in 2022. He’s a 6’3 200lb receiver who had 0 receptions on just 5 targets last year.
Back to normal in terms of the Jets generating a lot of pressure without sending extra defenders. That’s always a recipe for success.
Yesterday we got talking about Terrace Marshall, and he’s still a player I’d explore. He declined to comment on his trade request yesterday saying “I’m just focused on the Houston Texans,” he said, per Joe Person of The Athletic. “I don’t want to be a distraction to the team.”
I went back and looked at the scouting reports are Marshall coming out of LSU and pretty much every one of them spoke about his talent, his speed, his size, and his potential. But there were a few who questioned his commitment to his craft. The official NFL report by Lance Zierlein said: “For all of his talent, Marshall seemed disinterested at times in 2020 and wasn't always committed to finishing his routes or running them with consistent intensity.”
I haven’t watched enough Panthers football to know if that’s been evident during his time in Carolina, but it’s that kind of thing that will scare teams away…it’s also those kinds of things which lead you to basically giving him away. Interesting option, but who else is out there?
