Good morning! ☕
So this is what it’s going to be like from here on out. ESPN was at Jets OTA’s yesterday and as I was going about my business my phone was buzzing with updates, concerning updates. Here’s what we need to appreciate, we are under a microscope and even the smallest issue will be blown out of proportion.
We have a ton to get to today with reports from OTA’s and the players meeting the media, some for the first time. We’re just going to call this the quick throw edition, let's get into it.
😱 Aaron Rodgers tweaked his calf yesterday which sent Jet’s Twitter into an instant meltdown. It was originally reported that it was his ankle, but he later confirmed it was his calf and that it was a minor problem. It was later reported that the Jets expect him to be back pretty quickly and taking him out of practice was more precautionary, wanting to be smart. Here’s the thing, a soon-to-be 40-year-old QB is going to have some aches and pains, and he’ll have some niggles along the way. Veterans also tend to know their bodies better and are more likely to play it safe. It’s May, there is absolutely nothing to be worried about at this point. Rodgers could not throw another pass until camp and I’d be perfectly relaxed about it. His contributions go beyond what he’s doing on the field, he’s helping install the Nathaniel Hackett offense and he’s helping to install confidence. Just as an extra note, Rich Cimini confirmed that there was no wrap or anything on Rodgers's calf after practice.
🌰🌰 Rodgers wasn’t the only player to cause a tremor, Allen Lazard also went down and left the field with a trainer, but he returned shortly after and finished the rest of the session. Again, this was a non-story and if we’re going to panic every time a player briefly departs or sits out a few plays then we’re in for a long few months. Lazard took to Twitter later in the day to put everyone’s mind at ease: “I’m good y’all not sure why they didn’t report that I practiced the rest of the day at 100% but I’m good lol Just got hit in the gonads” Ouch.
