Good morning!
It’s all quiet on the Jets front as we enviously watch other teams get ready for the divisional round. I’m still hoping we get a Lions v Texans Super Bowl, but I’ll settle for anyone but the Bills. We’ve got a couple of quick notes this morning and then we ask whether the Jets should re-sign Quinton Jefferson who enjoyed a career year in one way but ended on IR.
Something non-Jets related but happy retirement to Jason Kelce. The great Philadelphia centre called it quits after the Eagle’s surprising wild card defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay. 6 First Team All-Pro selections, 7 Pro Bowl selections, 1 Super Bowl title. I love offensive line play and he’s been one of the best for a very long time.
Thomas Morestead was talking to the official website yesterday about what the Jets mean to him: "That would be hard to do," he said. "I've really appreciated my time here. I know that the expectations and the results didn't line up with what we hoped would be this season, but it's been a great experience for me. From coaches, teammates, everybody in the building and the organization, the fans, it's been a great season. Personally, I've just felt loved and appreciated and respected. I can't ask for more." Here’s hoping Morestead is back with us next season.
ESPN ranked the 100 most valuable NFL players through the 2023 season and five Jets made the list. Gardner was the highest ranked at #26 “Gardner excelled at preventing targets -- his 13% target rate was third best among outside corners -- and he ranked second to Johnson in yards per coverage snap allowed (0.8), per NFL Next Gen Stats. While we don't have individual open scores for defensive backs, we have team-level open scores, and the Jets ranked first by far (81) in the category. It's a reflection of the rest of their secondary, too, but that number is another sign that Gardner is a stellar player.”. Garrett Wilson followed at #45, Quinnen Williams at #63, Quincy Williams at #76 and Breece Hall at #81.
Draft one day, free agency the next.
On Monday a whole host of Jets content creators release their weekly mock drafts and I enjoy looking through them. It gives me an idea of where the fanbase is in terms of positional value and priority.
