Good Morning!
Senior Bowl week is officially upon us with measurements and the first day of practice taking place yesterday. We’re going to touch a few bits and pieces there
Before we get into today’s newsletter I just wanted to mention that there is a TJW chat available on the Substack app.
With TJW being delivered once daily, the chat is a great way to digest the latest Jets news with instant reaction.
A lot of readers already have the chat and we’ve had a few threads already including the instant reaction to the Nathaniel Hackett hiring, but I’ll start sharing pieces through the off-season and subscribers will get nuggets of information that are being shared with me, so get yourself signed up.
📢 Robert Saleh who worked with new Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans as both a player in Houston and coach in San Francisco, had this to say about his friend: “DeMeco is awesome,” Saleh said. “He’s going to do great. This is a really cool opportunity for him. Captain ‘Meco: phenomenal, family man, obviously relatable. As a former player, he has that empathy and relatability. He’s very, very smart. He’s always trying to learn. I think that’s what you appreciate the most out of him.”
✍️ The Jets announced that they had signed WR/KR Diontae Spencer to a reserve/future contract. It wouldn’t be a proper football week if the Jets weren’t either releasing or signing Spencer.
👍 PFF released their weekly mock draft and they had the Jets taking Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson. If this is the way the board falls in April, you won’t hear me complaining. I like Johnson at both tackle and guard, and like with AVT, I absolutely love that versatility.
🗳️ Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson and Cornerback Sauce Gardner are up for rookie of the year honors and you can vote for both of them by clicking right HERE - Every vote counts and all that, so make sure you go back and vote for both of them.
🧀 Aaron Rodgers was making his weekly appearance on The Pat Mcafee show and he said that he’ll be making a decision in a couple of weeks’ time around whether he wants to continue playing, or if he’ll hang up the cleats and ride off into retirement. He also referenced the Packers having conversations around him: “It sounds like there’s already conversations going on that aren’t involving me, which are interesting.”
🫂 Rodgers was then asked if the Jets getting Nathaniel Hackett would sway his decision, he said he can’t say that it does, but then went on to say “We all have certain coaches that meant a lot to us over the years and Nathaniel is obviously one of those guys." So yes, it will influence his decision. "Love Hack. Hack is my guy. Love him and Megan and the kids. They're really special to me. We really bonded when he was in Green Bay. He made it fun. He made the room fun. He made the weeks fun."
🐴 The Denver Broncos agreed a deal with Sean Payton to become their new head coach. It didn’t sound as though he was their first or second choice, but not a bad guy to land on.
Dawand Jones
It’s still so early in the process, but on day one of the Senior Bowl, Dawand Jones turned more than a few heads. He flat-out dominated in all periods and against all opponents.
First came the measurements. Jones came in at 6’8 and 375 lbs, with a ridiculous arm length of 36 4/8” and a wingspan of 89 4/8” - That is a ridiculous-sized man, and when you see how well he carries that 375lb, it genuinely shocks you. That wingspan is the largest ever recorded at the Senior Bowl.
