Good morning! 🥃
Usually on a Wednesday, I like to take a look at some film and share some clippings, but I really couldn’t bring myself to watch that game again. I didn’t even want to watch the end of it the first time.
But as so often happens in these situations, when you have the worst red zone offence, the worst scoring offence and the worst third-down offence…you start searching for answers, and if you can’t find answers you start searching for where to place the blame.
After talking about the combination of Hackett and Zach, which may be one of the worst OC/QB pairings we’ve ever seen with the Jets and we’ve had a few, I think a lot of the buck needs to stop with Joe Douglas. As a Joe Douglas fan, that’s hard to admit, but there is plenty of blame to go around.
According to Aaron Wilson, the Jets are signing Perrion Winfrey to the practice squad. The former Oklahoma man worked out for the Jets last week.
The Jets have 8 touchdowns in 8 games. They’ve only had less through the first 8 games twice before. 1976 with Lou Holtz and 2020 with Adam Gase. Fun.
After the game against the Chargers, Aaron Rodgers was heard telling Derwin James to “Give him a few weeks”. He tore his Achilles 9 weeks ago now, he later said he was saying it tongue in cheek and that he was a few fortnights away. So let’s say 6 weeks as a best-case scenario.
Aaron Rodgers was throwing 50-yard passes off three and four-step drops before the game. I mean the best offensive performance of the game came from Rodgers's pre-game passes.
Jermaine Johnson led the Jets with 9 pressures, followed by JFM with 8 and Bryce Huff with 7, Quinnen Williams with 6. The pass rush absolutely showed out in a big way last night, sacking Herbert 5 times is not easy.
Reed and Sauce combined to give up 23 yards last night with 2 PBU’s (both by Sauce). It’s the best CB dup in football.
Zach Wilson completed just 38.5% of passes of 10+ yards last night, most of his work came on checkdowns and passes within 10 yards of the line.
Billy Turner allowed 10 pressures and 3 sacks on 60 pass blocking snaps, which is just an absolute abomination of a stat line. Laken Tomlinson allowed 8 pressures, Becton 5, Mitchell 5 and Joe Tippmann 3.
The Jets registered two drops, the one from Uzomah and the one from Lazard. As mentioned yesterday, Lazard’s is his 5th drop of the season. Awful.
Want to see the Jets third down and red zone offence horror show in context…of course you do…
I’m not sure if anyone else heard Robert Saleh’s interview on the Michael Kay show yesterday, but he seemed pretty flustered when asked why the Jets are sticking with Zach and how he’s been the only consistent over three years of failure on the offensive side of the ball. When asked why the Jets won’t just try Siemien, Saleh said ‘I don’t know… you got me I’m going to plead the 5th on all this one’. Strange answer, I think he was trying to say that he’d already answered and that they don’t believe Zach is as big an issue as some are making him out. Another part of me thought he was being handcuffed by orders higher up that Zach should play, but I don’t know why they’d force that decision on him.
I mentioned this in passing yesterday, but I think the time has come to place some of the blame for this season on Joe Douglas.
Now before we even get into today’s post, I want to categorically say that I’m not saying that Joe Douglas should be fired, I’m also not stating that he hasn’t done. alot of good here.
We’ve detailed the mess he inherited when he arrived numerous times on TJW, and we’ve also given significant praise for signings like Bryce Huff, John Franklin-Myers and Quincy Williams.
