Zach played well. But the thing that gave me more optimism than anything else is his postgame comments.
Last year he lost his job as much because of what he said than because of what he did on the field.
This team was close to turning on him last week. Those post-game comments and taking ownership will galvanise the team and they’ll rally round him. Hopefully it’s enough to push for the playoffs
It might have been a totally different game if Zuerlin’s field goal and Conklin holds on to the ball in the end zone. That’s a swing of 7 points, winning teams capitalize on situations like that.
Going totally unnoticed and not a word said last night. Morestead with 5 punts dropped 4 inside the twenty.
Unlike Mann who in 17 games, could only put 27 inside the twenty, Morestead already has 8.
And Wilson doing his best impression of Jericho Cotchery's laying his body out completely horizontal and used both hands to get that long pass instead of one hand... Garrett would have caught that, he already has shown the exceptional body control to do so, and yes, he would have been subsequently tackled. But I think Garrett was trying to corral the ball in while running full speed - had he been able to do so (had the ball been placed just a few inches shorter on it's trajectory) I think Garrett was going for the 6 on that one.
And yes, imagine Garrett is the one in the end zone trying that hands only catch instead of Conklin -
Good to see Gipson in action, really wanted him to return a KO, but that'll come later in the season.
Correct me if i'm wrong on the next thing, but did Hardman get any snaps?
And Yes -- RUCKERT!!!! RUCKERT RUCKERT RUCKERT!@!! - Dude can ball, bruddah - not just a blocker, but with excellent HANDS as well! I hope, hope, HOPE that Hackett runs more 12 or 22 packages and designs passes for Ruckert and Conklin on the field.
And finally, Bruddah - the OLINE! Excellent job, we can ride with this combo the rest of the season!
It appeared that the biggest difference with Zach last night was how decisive he was and how quick he released the ball.
Maybe someone ( Rodgers) told him, the window you see, is it, it’s not getting bigger, your arm is strong enough to get it there.
As Jet fans, we can only hope, that he permanently got the message.
Ten different players had receptions.
Hackett must have started reading The Jet Way, because he got Ruckert and Gipson involved. There was a couple of tweets during the game saying that Hardman was on the field. If he was, he was never targeted. His usage is still a mystery.
The company line was that Cook was getting his game legs. He really looks slow getting off of the ball. How about we give Abandakanda a shot.
The new offensive line grouping appears to be really getting it together.
Biggest issues with the defense was a ton of miss tackles, Cleamons whiffing on Pacheco a real killer and this teams propensity for dropping interceptions, especially interceptions that could be pick sixes. Sauce last week and possibly Mosely last night. From the camera angle given us, he had clear sailing. I’m sure the 22s will let us know.
The officials, especially in the fourth quarter were a disgrace.
No matter what you saw last night, no matter how many times you watch the replays, the NFL will turn into a turtle hiding in its shell. Totally protecting the officials with their BS reasons. They might even throw in an apology for the Sauce call. It’s my understanding that Jermaine Johnston was still being held as he tried to get into his car last night.
Wether it’s on purpose or it’s a psychological thing, officials don’t give lousy teams the calls until the teams get the official’s respect.
Remember Chiefs Bengals last year, they replayed a certain third down three times in the Chiefs favor until they converted the down.
If the Jet hierarchy complains too much, there will be fines and/ or suspensions. Maybe the NFL and their striped minions will get the message, social media was on fire last night over the incompetence that occurred.
As a vocal Jet fan, I have been one of Zach’s biggest critics, his numbers and lackluster play were deserving of the criticism.
As a die hard, once Zach got started last night, I was rooting just as hard for him as his defenders.
Saleh got it right last night, if he has finally turned the corner, with this defense, they will win a lot of games.
Denver the last 2 games has given up 98 points, it’s time to show if last night was real.
I don’t know who was responsible last night. Once the Jets got the safety, the lightbulb went off in Zach’s head. Did it just finally hit him, was it the coaches, was it something Rodgers said or heaven forbid is Zach a Swiftie.
Like you, I was Z's biggest critic... and like you, I will happily eat crow all season long if he plays like he did last night, the rest of the way. I think now, maybe there's a chance - a chance! - that he will tighten up his accuracy on those throws, so that Conklin can go for a ball that's more than a few inches off the ground, or Garrett can catch the ball going full stride with both hands instead of lunging for it with fingertips. I think these things can get better with practice.
Lightbulbs... finally clicking... the coaches... and especially what Rodgers said, not just for Zach but his effect on the whole team.
When he showed up, I'm certain that lifted the entire team's spirits. I believe, these guys must be saying to themselves, "if a Hall of Famer believes in us to come here and play, to take a 35 million dollar pay cut, to be here now helping us, being there for us when he could just as easily stay home and recuperate ... well then WE can BELIEVE in EACH OTHER! "
After a game like that it really feels like it’s what you take from it into the following week, and it’s the Broncos game that’s the final make-or-break for this team. If Zach can put in another strong performance there’s no reason why they can’t beat what’s statistically the worst defence in the league.
Having said that, if it’s a reversion to the offense from the first three weeks then we could be looking at 1-4, with the Eagles and then the bye.
I for one don’t think that will happen - the playcalling alone showed that they were willing to take a different tack, try some new things out and let Zach throw a couple of deep balls and give the receivers the chance to make some plays.
One remaining thing I hope they look at is the snap spread among the backs. Michael Carter looked a country mile ahead of Dalvin Cook, who surely must be on borrowed time at this point. I’d love to see Izzy dressed for the Denver game and to take a look at what he can do against a side that should give up some chances. And having Gipson in the backfield made a huge difference!
Onwards to Denver, and we’ll see if this team can turn the corner and make a run for the playoffs.
On the Sauce call, once you see that 11 was trying to get to the spot he was supposed to be in, but Sauce didn't oblige him to get out of his way. And Mahomes threw to the spot #11 would've been were it not for that excellent defense by Sauce.
And the late flag on that, when MC2 had already intercepted the ball and was almost 10 YARDS DOWNFIELD when the flag finally landed on the turf --- well, that smells like ratshit - the ref would certainly have known that this would change the game in critical manner (they're supposed to be neutral, the striped ones...). And I think that ref did it on purpose to protect the Chiefs. And to have been preceded by the horrendous non-call of holding against JJ just before that play, where JJ was actually SLAPPING the HELMET of the OLineman and actually POINTED to his holding for the ref to see - then to see Mahomes turn that into a 20+ yd scramble... ??? And there were TWO REFS back there, looking right at Johnson when he was being held like that???
These refs were bought, just like the refs back in the 2019 Saints-Rams game with that horrendous non-call of a pass interference that changed the game against the Saints. And for the same reasons, too - they want to protect the Chiefs, Mahomes because that makes more $$$ for them than a narrative where the Jets play the upset.
I swear, these rules protecting the zebras, where they can screw a team via biased officiating... it makes you understand why there are times that playing by Marquess of Queensbury rules, where only one side is doing so and the other (like Tom Brady years past) knows they can get away with shit ---
Well David, I think there may be some folks out there, that think times like these demand a certain type of redress, to get the refs back to calling a game on an even keel.
There may be folks that would come to believe, where getting a letter from the league a few days later saying "sorry, but the refs blew the call" like happened vs the Pats doesn't work, because it seems that certain teams always get preferential treatment. And they might reasonably come to a conclusion based on these observations, where these people might decide that payment of a more "visceral" nature should be extracted from the striped ones on the field -- make them think twice before taking any payment to decide the game because of the painful reminder that comes from a broken nose or maybe other parts of their bodies.
And if there were certain people who happen to think like that, and certain things would be done to the offending ref to lead him to decide that he shouldn't be leaning on the game like that --- well, David, I'd be perfectly OK with seeing Justice done in a way that effectively stops this corruption.
K, further comments will be on the positives in separate notes - and yes, there were some GREAT Positives!
That Gardner defensive holding call was, pretty clearly, dog shit. The inner offensive lineman in me struggles to side with the defensive lineman with holding calls, but the end of that rep got pretty blatant. One of the announcers (it might've been earlier in the day in a different game, honestly) said it perfectly: why'd the make the front of shoulder pads imminently 'holdable' if not for locking onto those front plates and never letting go? There could've been a few more offensive holding calls, however, on those long Mahomes scrambles, though. I was waiting for those to happen and Ulbrich and Co. seemed to have done a pretty good job of game planning to take it away. The adjustment was coming, however....and then the Chiefs were able to rip off a few killer scrambles that (with the help of a few questionable calls and non-calls) put the nail in the coffin. What an amazing game to watch, though!!!!! Even though they lost, watching a nice competitive game was so much fun!
Can't Wait for David to dissect the various components of the game... Hackett's opening up the playbook (4*); PASSING on 1st down (4*); Ruckert & Gipson getting meaningful reps, touches (4*, would have been 5 but Hardman was barely used; Zach getting into a flow... and the best, the 6* reference, the OLine coming together - finally! Bruddah, on that last note, tell me... is AVT just an effin' GREAT PLAYER, or WHAT, HUH!!!??? Lockin' down Chris FUCKIN Jones, who only had 15.5 sacks last year.
And on Defense, Brich sending 5 guys sometimes (5* - this is a personal peeve of mine as you know); Quincy the "Fire-and-Forget" missile making plays EVERYWHERE - if you're readin' this, Q, keep up the great work - maybe a Pro Bowl nod in your future? Mosely - what a stud - i'm going to name my next dog Mosely, after him.
So much to look forward to this week... and then we get to pay a visit to Sean Payhole, set things right with him.
2-3 Next Week - and if the Jets keep playing like they did last night; watch Out Philly!
Likely altered the result of the game, it was enjoyable watching the jets play a good team and be in a position to win. ZW played so much better than any of us thought possible. If this is what he can do on a consistent basis, we should see more wins than most of
Yeah, at 71 years old I have followed this team since day one! At this point I just want to see competitive football. I run a FB group with over 500 members and the biggest aspiration is to not be talking NFL Draft by Halloween. Obviously we all have higher aspirations but you have to start somewhere! Playing competitive football is a great start. Especially against the reigning Super Bowl champs. The 5 biggest non plays that killed us were the. Incompletions to Conklin GW, the dropped interception by Mosely and the two misses by the zebras!
The biggest thing i liked last night - keeping the 30,000 CHIEFS FANS (in attendance) QUIET. We made them squirm in thoier seats. Score could have easlily been 33 - 23 Jets. "WE" eat the best QBs in the AFC (Allen now Mahomes). Zack Wilson is the only QB to have more yards, TDs, % and no picks over Mahomes through Mahomes college and Pro careers.
Man, I just KNOW you were shouting your SOUL out at the game! When Hackett opened up, calling plays that ZW could perform better in than the previous two games - but DAAAYYYUUUMMMNNN - that musta felt all kinds of hella-GOOD, Bruddah!
Stevie Boy, we can thank Woodie Johnson for those 25,000 fans being in our stadium. Those PSL’s forced the Jets to sell a lot of tickets to cooperate entities who in turn make them available on the secondary market.
David, I knew you would hit it out of the pocket this morning and you did. There were so many plays in this game that made for good discussion and you hit pretty much all of them well done. The officiating was horrendous. There were plays we needed to make we didn’t make. But there were plays we did make that give us all hope as Jet fans. For me this was Zach’s best game ever as a Jet. He just did everything better.
I as many of you said “No more Zack”. I had been a supporter but after losing to the Puked at home again and seeing how Zack looked the same as ever. I had enough.
So now Zack looked good, still some mistakes, but good.
Opening up the offense helped tremendously but more than that, I think Aaron being back with the team had a huge impact. I was not for signing Rogers but he won me over in training camp. Not all for his play but his presence and how he interacted with the team.
I hope coach Rogers can lead the team to some wins.
As a true fan I pulled for Zack last night but my hopes weren’t too high.
If the light bulb finally lit up, I sure hope it continues to burn bright.
Good for you Zack thank you for keeping up past halftime.
When Mahomes ran for 24 yards, There was Holding on the play. 1st Ref. Messup. Then Holding bullcrap call next play. WHY BAD CALLS AT HOME! Because of Taylor swift? Refs stole this from the Jets. New York is hated in every sport. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey! New York teams have Dominated sports until the end of the 1999. No-more, get short change on Calls from now on. New Enemy, The refs.!
Once again David you have hit all the salient points with your usual efficiency. I made a comment or a post on Old Time Jets FB page the other day, that basically said that Zack was on his last life and if he crapped the bed against KC he would be riding the pines forthwith. But I put in a caveat that said Zack was going to make a dumbass out of me for opening my big mouth, lol. And he went out and did just that and I couldn't be happier that he did. Last night he looked like we all hoped we were getting when he was drafted. What turned the switch on, who the hell knows ????? Or cares. I think this is best game as a pro. Hackett finally got the thumb out and devised plays to take advantage of his mobility and his innate ability to be successful out of the pocket. He also performed very well in the pocket, as the o-line showed up big time. I think I had put this combination together, along with several other members of this community, and it has paid off big time. AVT is back to form in his ability to able to play at a high level at either guard or tackle on both side of the line. Joe Tippman sometimes reminded me of Alan Faneca and has shown the ability to play at a high level at guard. Even McGovern looked decent, and Tomlinson had a good game and seems to be playing like he should have been playing. I think we'll see even more success next week after another week of practice together. Becton is showing signs of what he showed in his first season. Breece Hall is showing his talent just like he did last year and is well on his way to a very good season. Michael Carter looked good last night except for that unfortunate drop and should be the first one in after Hall. Cook continues to show why the Jets should never have signed him. He has no pop at all and no burst when he needs it. He should be a healthy scratch next week and dress Izzy. His speed around the corner could be a devastating weapon as well as his after-the-catch ability in the flat or on screens. The TE room contributed mightily and we saw a glimpse of what Jeremy Ruckert can accomplish when he gets snaps. Xavier Gipson should be in a lot more plays with his quick-twitch speed and moves. He could be a nightmare for DC's planning a defense. There's not much more you can say about Garrett Wilson, he is just in a class by himself. Lazard was excellent in both the receiving and blocking parts last night. I don't know why they don't use Hardman more, he's another quick-twitch, speedy player that can give DC's a huge headache. Cobb showed his veteran savvy on the reception where he stretched out to get the first down before going out of bounds. After a horrific first quarter, the defense came alive and harried and hurried Mahomes into a pair of picks and should have had a third. Moseley andQ2 had excellent games, with Q2 putting himself in position for a Pro-Bowl nod. His speed is amazing. The DB's did a pretty good job against Mahomes, when they weren't getting jobbed by the zebras. The zebras victimized the d-line also, especially on that scramble by Mahomes where JJ was literally being held for about 15-20 seconds and the DE on the other side was being held by two KC linemen. The zebras could have called at least 4 or 5 more holds on the KC o-line, it was a pathetic performance, especially the turd who threw the flag on that phantom hold by Sauce. But the NFL has to protect its darlings, and screw everyone else. There is such bias against the Jets, and other lower-ranked teams, in favor of the glamor teams. Coaches of teams who are victimized like that should collectively bring this up in a very open and public way to shame the NFL and the zebras. It would be worth the fines. It would also be worth a penalty to show the refs they aren't untouchable in their "ivory sidelines", lol. While we all know about "moral victories", but last night WAS a moral victory, or a morale victory. Zack showed his despair over the fumble, but the rest of the team rallied around him like they should. There should be no "niggling", lol, or nitpicking about Zack after last night. He showed what he could do in every game last night and to not support him would be criminally negligent. I think I hit all the points, though not as eloquent as David, and my carpal tunnels in my mouse hand are screaming "ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!!", lol.
Zach played well. But the thing that gave me more optimism than anything else is his postgame comments.

Did Hardman play? I was waiting for a revenge game. Looks like they made a creative gadget package for Hardman and gave it to Gibson.
It's certainly not a lack of snaps to work with

The officiating was horrendous. There were plays we needed to make we didn’t make. But there were plays we did make that give us all hope as Jet fans. For me this was Zach’s best game ever as a Jet. He just did everything better.
Most optimistic I've ever felt at 1-3
Patrick was quoted after the game that he saw the hold and that is why he threw the ball that way.
"To make them call it "
Replays show that is exactly what happened
Puked should be Pukes as in that Fing team in New England.
I've tried to do paragraphs before and they always come out as an F'in lump. I shall endeavor to be better my good man, lolololololol
Yo Mike!!!!
