Good morning! ☀️
The Jets have been relatively quiet through free agency so far. Part of that is down to the cap situation being a lot tighter than normal, but hold off on pressing that panic button, there is still plenty of talent available.
I heard a few grumblings in the Jets community when the C. J. Gardner-Johnson signing with the Lions was announced. A one-year deal worth $8 million is a low-cost gamble on a player who was a game-changer for the Super Bowl Eagles, so why were the Jets not involved? Perhaps it’s because they already like their secondary and the pieces they’ve constructed. We’ll take a look at that in today’s piece.
🐴 A bleacher report article recently paired Colts center Ryan Kelly with the Jets. This is following a report by Jeremy Fowler recently which stated “Meanwhile, teams that went all-in to contend for a championship now must shed salary. Some of those teams will stay very active on the phones, feeling out potential suitors. The Colts are believed to be one. Sources with several NFL teams say three-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly is available for a potential trade or release."
🚨 Rich Cimini posted a throwaway comment in his piece on the Aaron Rodgers trade situation where he stated: “There's also the thought that the Packers, in lieu of a first-round pick, could ask for a player who was once graded highly on their draft board. The Jets have several players who might appeal to them. With a surplus of defensive ends, perhaps Jermaine Johnson -- a late first-round pick in 2022 -- would do the trick.” - I would be very surprised if the Jets gave up that kind of talent for a short-term rental Aaron Rodgers.
