Good morning!
Today we’re taking a look at the wide receiver position, and I’m not going to lie, it’s not pretty. Jeff Ulbrich gets a chance to be a head coach…in the Senior Bowl, and could the Jets potentially lose a key coach on the defensive side of the ball?
⚾ I’m jumping sports here but I thought this had some relevance as we head into acquisition season. New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns had this to say when asked if some players are better suited to playing in NY, concerning the signings of former Yankees Luis Severino (who spent 12 years in NY) and Harrison Bader (born in Westchester), who both joined the Mets this off-season: “I think it’s important to have players who embrace what New York is, If you’re able to take all these external factors that exist with New York and use it as fuel and use it to drive you, it’s an enormous benefit for all of us. There’s an added intensity here. We all talk about it. We all know it. To have players who embrace that, who enjoy that, who thrive off of that intensity, I do think that’s important.”
🗽 Harrison Bader had this to say about it: “What’s most important to realize about New York is all those things … that you might say are difficult about New York, those are all really external,” Bader said. “If you use that pressure as a guiding force for your tomorrow, for your next decision, I think it can be extremely powerful. And then the payoff there is if you have a great year and the team does extremely well, then it’s a wonderful experience.” It’s interesting because when players fail in the NY market, you hear things like “he wasn’t cut out for it” or “he wasn’t mentally strong enough”, things that are impossible to evaluate.
👏 Congratulations to Jeff Ulbrich who will be the HC of the National Team at the Senior Bowl. I love being part of the Senior Bowl, it gives the Jets more insight and more opportunity to get to know some of these players.
🐆 Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel will get an interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their vacant defensive coordinator position
When you look at the Jets wide receivers, you have two distinct groups. Garrett Wilson and then everyone else.
The Jets made a lot of mistakes during the 2023 off-season, and there’s no position where that’s showcased more than in the wide receiver room.
Let’s just leave Garrett Wilson for now and talk about the 2023 additions.
