Good morning! ☕
Today I wanted to take a look at the Jet’s red zone usage under Mike LaFleur last year, pointing out a couple of glaring issues which likely contributed to him being fired and the Jets having one of the worst red zone offenses in football.
We have some quick throws to get to first including a signing for the Jets and some more joint practices. I know a few people hate the joint practices as there is a perception that more injuries occur with players going too fast too soon against unfamiliar opponents. I’ve never seen any data to back that up though.
✍️ The Jets signed former Patriots offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste yesterday according to a report by Brian Costello of the NY Post. Cajuste was released by New England earlier this off-season after an injury-riddled four years. He was horrific last year allowing 3 sacks and 12 pressures over three games, but he was highly rated coming out of West Virginia in 2019. He missed both the 2019 and 2020 seasons through injury and has struggled to find any consistency since then. It’s a low-risk move for Joe Douglas. Considering the talent he showed at West Virginia, a fresh start may be what he needs. If he gets injured or underperforms, it’s likely he can be cut with little consequence for the Jets (although I’ve yet to see the contract).
