Unfortunately when a star player goes down, Breece Hall in this case, the fans let out a collective sigh of negatives and colorful language that shouldn’t be heard by ladies and children.

Apparently Hall, the Jets and the fan base dodged a bullet on this one.

Also by condensing David’s injury report the cornerback position has taken the largest injury hit.

Mory Bamba - knee injury - expected to miss 1-2 weeks.

Nahshon Wright (undisclosed), Qwan'tez Stiggers (concussion) and rookie D'Angelo Ponds (calf) didn't practice.

Evidently it will be a busy time in practice and Pittsburgh this week for the healthy, surviving corners.

Ironically, Breece at the end of the World Cup commented that MetLife should keep the grass field intact instead of going back to the artificial, green toupee that covers Jimmy Hoffa’s grave.

Breece’s words were totally ignored by deaf ears, the ears that help keep Woody Johnson and John Mara’s glasses secured on their heads.

Evidently Hoffa’s arm magically extending out of the Green Toupee tripping up Breece as he was going in for the score on Friday, also another unidentified Jet player mysteriously went flying on a special team assignment in the second half quarter.

Unfortunately former Jet Jamaal Adams mysteriously went down with a no contact injury Saturday afternoon as he was performing for the Norsemen of Minnesota against the Giants.

He was carted off of the field with at this stage of his career, a career ending injury.

Notice when you read that a player has gone down, the newest phrase in NFL parlance is “ non contact injury “

As was noted after Spain won the

World Cup. There were over 100 World Cup games played on grass in NFL stadiums.

Not one ACL or any ligament injury reported.

As much as I would hate any stoppage of regular season games, I think it’s time to get the owner’s attention where it really matters to them, in their pockets.

Some sort of work stoppage, a walk out. Players getting hurt and possibly losing a career is totally unacceptable. The maintenance issue is definitely not a legitimate issue.

Fans are tired of hearing the owner’s violins playing the woo to us song about the maintenance cost of grass.

Every time that Goddell announces that a regular season game will be played in a non NFL country every owners cash register goes cha-ching, cha-ching.

A regular season game between the Jets and the Dolphins in New Delhi, India would cover the cost and maintenance of grass in PSL MetLife Stadium.

Any survey that the NFL puts out there that there is no difference in real grass or Green Toupee as far as injuries go. Is nothing more than a pile of 💩

Remember all of the NFL experts and their scientific evidence that football doesn’t cause the debilitating after effects of concussions.

You really going to fall for that propaganda.

I totally agree. The players have to strike AND grass fields should be part of new cba

Douglas Hunt's avatar

Agree with Abdul. Put it in the CBA.

Ron Alexander's avatar

Doug, again, if the Jets owned Met Life that might be possible! But they don’t! It’s owned by the NJ Sports Authority and they make more money doing concerts, rodeos, tractor pulls and all kinds of funny car and truck stuff! A grass field could never hold up to that! That’s why the stadium in NYC failure hurts so much

Douglas Hunt's avatar

well said, Ron. they need to build on Flushing Meadows while we are still alive.

Bobber's avatar

MetLife Stadium is owned on paper by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), but it was privately funded, built, and is operated by a 50/50 joint venture called the New Meadowlands Stadium Company, LLC, which is co-owned by the New York Giants and the New York Jets.Ownership & Operation Breakdown

The Land and Structure: The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority owns the underlying land in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on which the stadium sits via a long-term ground lease. The Teams: The New York Giants and the New York Jets financed the $1.6 billion construction costs privately and control the venue's operations.Naming Rights: MetLife (Metropolitan Life Insurance Company) purchased the naming rights to the facility in a 25-year agreement signed in August 2011.

Ron Alexander's avatar

The logistics aside, there will never be a full time grass field at Met- Life stadium. Too much money money to walk away from.

Mike Z's avatar

You are preaching to the Choir my friend. I think that a walkout may be necessary, though a "sick-out" by a couple of teams with "non-contact" soft-tissue injuries running rampant causing a team not to be able to field a full squad for a game. Say, a dozen key players declare themselves unable to play because of a sore back, or a groin pull or something similar an hour before kickoff would ruffle some feathers.

Ron Alexander's avatar

See my comment to Steve! Wishful thinking! It’s never gonna happen unless we get our own stadium!

Douglas Hunt's avatar

There are a lot of CB’s hurt. Good thing they have so many - you can never have enough. Jets need to be smart and put them on the temporary IR - Bobber will tell us what that actually is called and how they qualify. 😀

Bobber's avatar

In the NFL, the "temporary" Injured Reserve (IR)—officially called the Reserve/Injured list with a designation to return—allows teams to temporarily remove an injured player from the active 53-man roster and bring them back later without ending their season.Core Rules and LimitsMinimum Absence:

A player placed on IR must miss a minimum of four games (regular season or postseason) before they are eligible to return to the active roster.

Return Designations: Teams can designate up to eight players to return from IR during the regular season, and up to 10 total if the team makes the postseason (unused regular-season designations can carry over to the playoffs).Individual Limits:

An individual player can be designated to return from IR a maximum of twice in a single season, though each return counts as one of the team's overall designations.21-Day Practice Window:

Once a player is medically cleared to resume practicing, the team has a 21-day window. Within that time, the team must either activate the player to the 53-man roster, trade them, release them, or let them revert to season-ending IR.Preseason / Cutdown Exceptions: Teams are permitted to place up to two players on IR prior to the final 53-man roster cutdowns and still designate them to return later in the season.Salary Cap and Roster Status:

Players on IR do not count against the 53-man active roster limit, but their salaries still count against the team's salary cap.

Daniel Mcsparin's avatar

But if at any time in that 21-day window the player steps on a sidewalk crack greater than .5 inches and between streets numbered 11-15 or with names between letters A-G, said player must step into nearest business and challenge first associate encountered to thumb war. If player wins, team gets an additional conditional 7th round pick. If player loses, team and player must agree on a time and place in the ensuing 72 hours to compete in waffle eating competition between said player and NFL deputy commissioner's personal assistant. If player wins, team gets two additional conditional 5th round picks in non consecutive years beginning two full seasons from date of original crack-stepping. If player loses, player must complete and provide to nearest newspaper office to team's stadium written three page book report of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" in single spaced formatting complete with cover page, introduction, plot summary, personal reaction, and how they think the concept would hold up if a Connecticut Yankee were replaced with Vernon Gholston and King Arthur's Court were replaced with The Ice Bowl.

Craig Collins's avatar

Bobber, those are the in-season rules. The rules are a little different during preseason.

General Preseason IR RulesStandard Season-Ending Rule: Historically and fundamentally, any player placed on IR before the roster cutdown to 53 players is out for the entire season—unless they are given a specific designation.

The "Designated to Return" Exception: Teams can designate up to two players on cutdown day to be placed on IR while retaining the ability to return later in the regular season. These count immediately against the team's total in-season limit of 8 designated-to-return moves.

The Procedural Workaround (Waived/Injured): If a player not protected by the return designation is hurt in camp, teams often use the Waived/Injured designation. If the player clears waivers unclaimed, they revert back to the team's official IR list (ending their season) or reach an injury settlement.

Douglas Hunt's avatar

Damn, that is an impressive response. Answered all my questions. I did not realize there is a 2 player max ahead of season which makes sense - it would be abused.

Craig Collins's avatar

No, Douglas, they do not need to put them on IR. There's absolutely no reason to do that. For starters, their injuries aren't that serious and they won't be out that long. Secondly, NFL teams can only put 2 players on IR during TC who can be designated as short-term and able to return. Anyone over 2 is out for the season. Third, there are no good CBs out there on the street who are going to help the Jets in any way, shape, or form, so there's no reason to put them on IR.

They need to be working/rehabbing with the medical staff, and be there to watch practice and attend meetings. If they go on IR, they can only do rehab. They can't practice, and I'm not sure if they can even attend meetings.

Steve B's avatar

This years second pick Sadiq and the second round pick Ponds not practicing and not playing probably means not seeing these guys till what week 3 or 4 - and thats if they ever get healed. On the status of the injuies all we get from The Jets is "they are progressing" if that. Well The season is progressing without them. Losing Bamba is tough - probably means practve sqaud.

Abdul Salaam's avatar

I think Sadiq will not get any real minutes until mid - season. TE is tough transition from college. They will have some designs for him but real pt will take a while. Gotta hope Taylor makes a nice jump in yr 2.

Ponds will prob miss all of camp and get zero preseason game action. Similar to AZ last year. Cb can be ready quicker tho so we could see him in first qtr of season get a lil playing time, but right now brownlee is our nickel.

Cooper has to overcome

Williams’ surge AND learn NFL route tree. He may not contribute much this year either.

Bailey is the only high draft pick that is gonna def start right away, esp since he’s gotten all the reps with Engabare /Ossai hurt.

I’m not worried about our draft tho, sometimes it just takes more time. All those players look like they are good but just injured or in coppers case, have a vet in front who is playing lights out. Good problem to have.

Ironically, lower draft picks may contribute more this year. Klubnik locking down #2 which means he will def see time this year as a NYJ QB. Jackson seems like he’s having a good camp and got reps with Sweat on NFI list. Anez, is quietly

Having a good camp and had an excellent game vs Tampa. He’s an anamoly. Normally the big guys are maulers. He’s a big powerful dude but is an excellent pass protector, understands stunts and whatnot. He’s not great a run game because of technique not lack of power. It looks like he’s taking to the coaching and may figure out the run game which would make him a lifesaver for us. We need depth at IOL.

Lastly Payne got hurt. That’s the thing that is so common with rookies. After the run up with bowl

Games and combine etc, they are worn down by training camp and usually get hurt.

One more thing, Bamba is an injury stash. I don’t believe he all

Of a sudden has a knee. I think they saw something and said let’s stash him. I mean there isn’t room

For him this year unless someone else goes down.

Mike Z's avatar

They're definitely going to have to work Sadiq in gradually, but if he is ready physically on game day, he will get reps in the slot and on screens. He's just not ready for serious inline TE work. He could get some snaps at X-receiver also. Taylor is the #1 TE, and don't let anyone say different. Even in the long term, I consider Sadiq to be primarily an offensive playmaker and match-up nightmare.

I also think you are right about Bamba. I know that Anez Cooper has shown some real talent, but to even mention him starting, for any reason, is a real big O-Line depth issue. Being that Newman looked so bad, I think that they should give a real solid look at Liam Fornadel. I went back and watched his play on DVR, and he was very solid across the board. He was doing quite well last preseason before the injury.

Darrell Jackson has shown really promising signs, which bodes well for DT depth. I want to see more of Nathan Voorhis. He got caught crashing down too hard inside on two plays but shows great strength and movement. DT Jack Heflin could be a PS candidate also.

Ron Alexander's avatar

That’s 100% spot on! He can do it but he wasn’t drafted to be an inline(Y) TE.

Steve B's avatar

That’s if he even gets in a game this year -

Ron Alexander's avatar

Now, now Stevie😂 He’s never had an injury problem. I love this kid! You will to🥰

Steve B's avatar

But it would be so Jets to draft 2 guys who won’t play this year him and Ponds. This is why they always stink these top picks they blow and consistently in the second round

Ron Alexander's avatar

Abdul, 100%agree across the board. Bamba would be tough to sneak through cut down wavers!

Bobber's avatar

Progressing is an NFL coach speak word that can be interpreted as “ I haven’t a clue” or “ Next question please”

Bamba never makes it to the practice squad. I’m sure former Jet HC and NFL defensive back coach Todd Bowles will jump on him if he is cut healthy on cut down day.

Scott's avatar

So here’s a question for the Brigade. If Klubnik continues to shine in preseason, at what point does he start in the regular season. Obviously if Smith is hurt or is playing really bad. But what if Smith isn’t hurt and is playing decent and we have more wins than losses. Does Klubnik start? If not what impact does that play in the draft, plus do they keep Smith for another year and carry 3 QB’s. Does it impact who they draft? I know some have mentioned that we draft another QB no matter what and I agree with that. More interested in when and how we determine what we have in Klubnik.

Bobber's avatar

Easy answer, when they are eliminated from the playoffs.

Other answers, If Glenn is fighting for his job, he will play Geno trying to seduce Woody with unimportant wins. I’m sure key words like positive and progress will be used by Glenn

Woody is the wild card here, early in his ownership, he would go on sports talk radio saying that he believes in a big name quarterback, he definitely orchestrated the Favre trade and had no problem getting Rodgers.

I’m sure that when he is tying his green tie while wearing his white Jet baseball cap, he is salivating over the Manning name.

So it’s possible Klubnik could be playing sooner than we think

Douglas Hunt's avatar

Great question. My view is Cade needs to play at some point this year, but let Geno do his thing near term. Odds are this will take care of itself with injury or poor play but unless they are tracking toward a playoff spot, Cade has to play. This will determine how they use their draft capital and where they take a QB. My target is Julian Sayin from Ohio State and they may be able to get him later in the draft given latest projections, but none of those projections mean anything at this stage.

All that said, I do see a scenario where Cade is the long term answer. Just give him space - don’t make the same mistake the Jets always do and throw him into the fire too soon and let the evil NY and national media eat him up.

Jonathan S's avatar

I think Klub starts the last few games of the season (assuming we're eliminated from the playoffs already). I don't think he'll impact the draft plan unless he really balls out when he gets his chance.

And if Geno plays alright I think they'll bring him back for another year, but either way I expect them to sign a vet QB next year to mentor Cade and the rookie.

Mike Z's avatar

Even if he balls out very well, it won't affect the draft plan. It would sheer idiocy and malpractice to not take one of the highly QB's in the first round.

Scott's avatar

This year was going to be a great QB class and look what happened. There is no such thing as a can’t miss QB prospect.

Jonathan S's avatar

You’re assuming they finish with a top 2 pick.

Mike Z's avatar

Are you saying there's only good talent available in the first 2 picks ???

Jonathan S's avatar

I’m saying you’ll get between 1-3 true can’t miss QB prospects and they’ll go at the top of the draft. There may be other QBs worth taking in the first round but then you’re talking about Bo Nix/ Michael Penix quality of prospect. And that’s the level of prospect I think you pass on if Klub balls out.

Mike Z's avatar

I guess we'll see.

Scott's avatar

I think it could affect the draft that is why I’m am curious about him getting playing time this year. I agree under any circumstances a QB should still be drafted next year. Remember before last season Klubnik was touted as a #1 draft prospect, if he balls out then the sense of urgency drops and maybe they take the best available QB available at their highest #1 pick. If he flops or looks be only be backup material then the sense of urgency changes.

Mike Z's avatar

David, for all then people urging caution about Tyson, including myself, should feel vindicated, as he will be out for two months with a hamstring issue, probably the same one from his last college year. He may end up being one of those amazingly talented players who just can't stay healthy. The Saints took a shot, and they'll just have to see how he progresses.

Douglas Hunt's avatar

Douglas Hunt

just now

David, I have never been to Lugano. Tell us about it.

Breece being held out can be a good thing although those groin injuries can elongate. But I want to see more of Chip and Scott. I know Chip quite well but have never seen Scott and am impressed so far. Bamba injury may be a benefit - can put him on reserve and not force a 53 decision now. Love the 100 jugs catches.

It's stunningly beautiful Douglas. The scenary is outstanding, it's in Switzerland but with Italian culture, it's very expensive but the local wine is good, the lake is crystal clear, the funiculars make multiple mountains accessible and the people are very friendly.
