Insanity is doing the same thing over expecting a different result.
Anthony Richardson = Justin Fields.
If Richardson was any good at all, the Colts would not have tried to trade him all winter and they would not have given Daniel Jones a 2 year $88 million contract.
He should never have been drafted where he was.
The biggest help Richardson could do for the Jets is if Daniel Jones goes down and the Colts are forced to use Richardson that #1 pick the Jets received from the Colts would probably increase in value faster than Apple stock.
And let’s not delude ourselves with unicorns, sugar plumbs and pixie dust. Geno is a stop gap, a bridge to the future.
Klubnik has shown kinks in his armor this week.
The ultimate prize is waiting for us suffering Jet fans either in Eugene, Oregon or Austin, Texas or Columbus, Ohio or Coral Gables, Florida.
The Jets have been doing it wrong for so long, every writer assumes that the Jets are the dumping grounds for every has been or never was. Enough already, do it right.
And that includes keeping interfering Woody as far away as possible.
Right on the button Bobber. Jason La Canfora is not what I would call a prescient source. Ehlinger and Richardson ???????? No one has spoken Ehlinger's name outside of Denver in, like, forever !!! And the less said about Richardson the better. He has firmly earned his "bust" classification. Both of them would be wastes of funds and roster spaces.
And no one should get all misty-eyed about Geno being back. In all honesty, he's at the tail end of his career and would have to erase all of his faults to get the Jets competitive in any meaningful manner, no disrespect intended. He just is what he is.
The Jets are laying a very nice, solid foundation with The Moug at the helm. He hasn't committed any real klunkers yet and has turned out to be a pretty savvy GM with the trades he has made, and the contracts he has given out. As has been mentioned before, the Jets will be in a damn good position cap-wise for 2027 and have a wealth of draft assets for the next draft. The one thing that is a pet peeve is this nonsense about Myers. He's not a starter by any stretch of the imagination and is just barely palatable as a backup. In spite of him, the Jets should have a pretty respectable O-line this season, which will help Breece Hall and Geno in their performances. One thing is for sure, the Jets need better depth on the O-line, especially the interior section. But 2026 is a build-up season and we will have to take the bitter with the better. Absolutely no one should get all googly-eyed about a possible playoff run, lol. Getting above the mediocre stage would be a gargantuan leap at this point. There is a lot of promise in Jetville, let's not kill the moment with wild-eyed hopes.
I totally agree with you on Richardson. You're probably right about Ehlinger, but is he the same, better or worse than Zappe? I'm not sure that Klubnick should be the backup this season. I think it would be better with a veteran backup and let Klubnick work on building arm strength and fixing his footwork and fundamentals this season. I know that Zappe doesn't have the arm strength for Northeast winter winds. I don't know about Ehlinger's arm strength. I think Ehlinger is probably more of a threat to run than Zappe so would add that option if Geno got hurt and the backup had to play a number of games.
As far as Geno, I think they'll get a solid year from Geno and the offense will be able to function. He'll probably make some bonehead throws that he will wish that he hadn't, but I think he probably pushed a little bit his last year in Seattle and tried to do too much, and then last year in Vegas he had no chance between the OC and the horrific OL and the injuries, and he again felt like he had to carry the team and tried to do too much. I think Musgrave and Reich will keep him reined in, and the offense will be such that Geno won't think he has to carry it, there won't be playoff pressure, and if Breece stays healthy, he should have a great year and take a load of pressure off of Geno and the offense. I may be wildly optimistic, but if Genom the OL and WRs stay healthy, I think he could throw for between 3,500 and 4,000 yards, 25 TDs and 10 interceptions.
I totally agree regarding Myers. It is an enigma why they didn't make more of an effort to replace him. Hopefully, they will sign a camp cut or one of the other young IOL for the Jets will show at TC that he has improved greatly and alleviate some of our concerns about the IOL.
I have no illusions about making the playoffs, but I would be very happy if the Jets were solidly competitive in 90-95% of their games and win 5-7 games.
That's the right way to think about it. If the Jets are going to trade for a QB, they need to be an upgrade over Zappe. Which is a pretty low bar and yet not one I have any reason to think Ehrlinger or Richardson clears. Bobber's original comment calling Richardson a Fields clone is giving him too much credit. Fields showed significantly more ability in college and actually had some production in the NFL.
Keep an eye on last year's Heisman participant in NYC, Julian Sayin. He has Bo Nix accuracy and leadership. Hope the Jets can get him with 3 firsts. But I do like Cade. Going to be interesting.
Sayin is an interesting prospect. Great accuracy but he's small with minimal arm strength. I think his limitations will stop him from being a top 5 pick. He needs to maintain his elite accuracy to stay in the first round conversation or his stock will tank and he'll probably stay in school another year.
I don't know that he would be worth giving up 3 firsts for, and QB's from OSU do have a pretty checkered past. There are going to be 5 or 6 QB's at the top of the draft and I don't think he's better than Moore or any of the others.
Spot on regarding Richardson, Bobber. I wouldn't limit the "ultimate prize" to those 4 locations, however. Who knows, it could be LA, Raleigh. I'm pretty sure that it won't be Columbus, Ohio, at least I hope not. I have zero interest in Sayin.
Wow, look who’s first up today😵💫 I beat Bobber. 🤣 Been a little busy with loosing a close friend who had been battling that dreaded “ c” word over 15 years. Sadly unfortunately didn’t have much of a local family presence here so I have been involved in a lot of minutiae a non family member is not normally tasked with. OK, on to our Jets. Getting varying reports from multiple outlets that at this early stage things for the most part are moving along relatively smoothly. Seeing reports Klubnik has a had a few klunkers at OTA’s but he’s hanging in there as well as expected for a surprising 4th round pick. We may have found our kicker ( Sanders) if he is and can remain heathy🤔
Sorry to hear about your friend Ron, please give his family my condolences. As far as our Jets are concerned, things are going along as smoothly as possible so far, so let's not spoil the moment. Mandatory OTA's are coming up and TC is looming, so we will be seeing if the expected fruits of this off-season are ripe...............or rotten, lol.
Good try Ron, your post says 7:10am, my post says 7:07am.
You know the old saying, “ it’s not where you start but where you finish.
I will gladly relinquish my 7:07 spot, since you have gone through a terrible week of sadness. Losing a friend is a very depressing situation, I know it well.
Try to beat me monday, I will start writing my Monday comment today. I haven’t a clue what David would be posting but I’m sure anything he writes, I can make it fit.
With America’s birthday coming, I’m sure I could come up with a Wyatt-Hupton who was an oarsman when Washington crossed the Delaware.
ROFLMAO!!!! Bobbber, you are priceless. I have to get up to NJ one of these days and sit down and have a cold one or three with you. Maybe we can get Ron and anyone else who lives in the area to come. I think it would be great fun!
Bobber 100% Geno is a stop gap, he is not a savior just needs to be serviceable. It seems the Jets are not caught in the same old Jets ways, they are building a team for a future QB not getting a QB and forcing him to be the team. I like it. I have moderate expectations this year. The “In the Hunt” column in November/ December will be a good improvement.
When Gino left he always had a chip on his shoulder about the Jets like they done him wrong. That’s why I’m having a hard time getting behind him now - that’s the impression …
Great newsletter today, David! I loved your comments regarding Geno with relation to your late mother's comment about 1st impressions. That's one of the things that makes you such a special writer.
Yes, it certainly sounds like JO hit the nail on the head yesterday with regards to Gee. Who knows maybe he'll turn out to be more than just someone to help install the offense, but even if not, if he helps in doing that, it will have been more than worth it!
I don't agree with Jason LaCanfora very often, and I certainly don't with regards to trading for Anthony Richardson. At this point I think Cook has more potential than Richardson. There may be some merit to trading for Sam Ehlinger if the price is right. He's only 6'1" but weighs 220, so he has a little heft to him. He threw for almost 11.5k yards at Texas in 4 seasons, but his completion percentage was only 62.5% and his TD/Interception ratio was very good (94/27). It would all depend upon the price and whether the Jets would be happy with Klubnick as the backup. Ehlinger has appeared in 8 games in the NFL, his completion percentage is 63.4%, he's thrown for 3 TDs and 3 Interceptions (all in 2022). He has also rushed for 96 yards (4.8 ypc), 6 TDs, and 2 fumbles. My concern with him is that he hasn't appeared in a game in the last 2 years, and only appeared in one game in 2023. Has he been injured? Buried on the depth chart somewhere?
Most of you guys do a better job of keeping up with other teams and players in the NFL. Who's better, Ehlinger or Zappe? Is Ehlinger's arm stronger?
I love Mitchell's comment. Hopefully, he's not just parroting what he thinks Glenn and the media want to hear. Glenn's comment makes it sound like perhaps Mitchell was coasting a little his rookie season and even last year and not working hard enough, but now maybe has learned his lesson. I hope so. He has a ton of talent and he could really help this team.
I like Geno's comments re Klubnick. It would be awesome if he proved to be a quality starter and the Jets could either run with him and use all three of their 1st round picks in 2027 to upgrade the rest of the team, or still draft a QB in the 1st round and go with the two of them, and if the 1st rounder flounders, give the ball to Klubnick or they could possibly trade Klubnick if their 1st round looks very good and get an early pick for Klubnick.
I have used that same line to teach my kids for 30 years, David. It can be humbling. Another great line I use for kids that will be in my book is, 'nobody is better than you!, but you are not better than anybody!'.

I want no part of Sayin. He's too short/small and doesn't offer anything as a running threat.
