Ironically Connor Hughes did an oral report leaving practice yesterday that is available on X formally Twitter.

In his report, he brings out the fact that Geno was brought in to let it rip taking shots downfield but of late he appears to be dumping off the ball as soon as possible without scanning the field.

Maybe there is more to his foot injury than we were being made to believe.

Then again, It could be a lot of nothing.

Barring an injury, the Zappe- Cook battle is for who will be the practice squad quarterback.

As far as Ponds goes, the Jets took him with the fiftieth pick for a reason, his talent.

It’s not like he is trying to break into the Legion of Boom.

Brownlee’s kamikaze aggressive style of play has led for him to miss 32 out of a possible 68 games with injuries.

Pond’s place in this defense will work itself out.

The Athletic is a paid subscription website. Every once in a while, they give free access to a particular article.

The did it yesterday with a one on one interview between an Athletic reporter, not the beat reporter, and Glenn.

For those interested, just google

Aaron Glenn knows: Mistakes were made. He doesn’t plan on making them again. The Athletic writer is Johnathon Jones.

I think it will be worth your time to read it.

Bobber, thanks for shooting that Athletic article. It was a good one. I have been a Gino skeptic for a while now. Excuses aside he didn’t look very good last season and he’s been up and down so far this summer. Looking at NFL rosters I viewed 4 or 5 teams carrying 4 QB’s I think might be better options for the QB3 spot than Zippo or Brady! I’m still curious about Cook. Unlike most I haven’t completely written him off. I get it,he struggled last season but we didn’t have the talent in place at the WR/ TE positions as Mason Taylor and GW were not available during the majority of Cooks opportunities. For me his biggest ability is his athleticism. He moves well. I honestly don’t know if he’s ever gonna be able to figure it out as a passer but for now I’m more interested in seeing him than Zippo!

I also agree with you on Cook . I don't think he had a real opportunity to succeed.

No reason not to keep Cook on PS. Zappe has had opportunities and has not delivered.

Phil, and really I should have included the fact last years coaching staff probably wasn’t the greatest either. Another obstacle he had to deal with.

I totally agree regarding Cook, Ron. He still has potential. In addition to the bad CS, by Cook's 2nd game, the team had quit around him. Only Phillips, Briggs, and maybe a few others were trying or were playing well. He had no chance to succeed. He probably also had very few reps with the starters before his first game. He was not set up to succeed. It was typical haphazard handling of a young QB by the Jets.

Zappe should have been able to feast against TB's backups last Friday night, even with the poor OL play. Zappe has looked bad and imo there's no reason to even consider him for the PS at this point, unless they think Klubnick can't handle being the backup this season. Even then, as you said, they should sign a QB who is a camp cut or trade a 7th or 6th round pick for one or do a pick swap. Bailey should not be anywhere near this team.

The article with AG was good and I really liked one thing in particular, the way he handled the media last year, he admitted it was wrong and has already been different. Talking about QB’s, there is no battle right now Smith is the starter. Cade is looking the part but what I find interesting is how many rookie / developmental QB’s have looked good. Hell some in New Orleans are calling for Zack Wilson to be the #1 (remember him?). Several of the late round QB pick have looked good in practice and games, is this just what happens in preseason or is the class better than they were thought to be? I hope one exceeds 4th expectations for sure.

Agree that was a excellent read

Scott's avatar

I disagree, I think Klubnik is #2, not going to take up 3 roster spots with QB position.

Craig Collins's avatar

At this point, I hope that Klubnik can be the #2 so they don't have to keep 3 QBs on the roster, but if he's not ready, then imo the Jets should bite the bullet and bring in a vet backup and let Klubnik sit until he's ready. Don't ruin him by throwing him out there before he's ready.

Like David keep indicating the Kicker for the Jets is not on the team yet. I would also venture to say QB is not on the team yet. Can't count out Klubnik (am i dreaming about Brock Purdy). However the Smith injury is smoke or going into the season that will be the reason he plays bad no in between.

Ron Alexander's avatar

Yup! I agree. I mentioned numerous team have multiple QB’s on their rosters. Pretty sure one of them will find their way to 1 Jets Drive

Excellent recap of the positional battles, David. The one thing you left out, however is speed, and speed matters with all of the fast WRs, RBs, and now even TEs in the NFL. Thomas is slow. I think Moore and Thomas are the two slowest DBs on the roster. Stephens is a little better. Wright is faster than Thomas and maybe faster than Stephens. Ponds is faster than Brownlee, Thomas, and Stephens. Bamba is faster than anyone in the secondary.

IMO the Jets need to find a way to keep and use Bamba, even if they move him to FS.
