Good morning ☕
Does anyone really want to go over last night's game? Should we all just move onto next season?
Robert Saleh has confirmed he's not considering changing the play caller, the Jets continue to run out the worst offence in football…what's left to say?
They've traded a guy (Hardman), cut a guy (Carter) and benched a guy (Zach). They've switched out numerous players including their prized receiver acquisition (Lazard) and we still can't score points.
I'm going to go with some quick thoughts this morning.
The Jets gave Allen Lazard a 4-year $44 million contract. In week 12 they made him a healthy scratch. He's been poor this year and his 20% drop rate is unsustainable, but this shows just how poor that signing was. When your best and most successful signing in free agency is your punter, you know it's bad. For what it's worth, Saleh confirmed that it was his decision to make Lazard inactive. "I'll speak for him: He hasn't been playing up to his standard," Robert Saleh said after the 34-13 loss. "Everyone is pressing on that side of the ball to make something happen. There are parts of his game that need to get better."
Why do the Jets experience so many injuries with offensive linemen? That needs to be a point of focus this off-season. We’ve been through multiple coaches now but we seem to pick-up injuries at an alarming rate. We've been through different turfs now, but maybe that's it with the strain it puts on the legs. Maybe it's the practice habits? Maybe it's the recovery? But last night we started one designed offensive lineman in Laken Tomlinson and it showed. Horrible pass protection, no run blocking and poor communication. But that's hardly surprising.
Duane Brown was absent again. Saleh was asked about that considering the shortage on the offensive line: "[We] tried to give him one more week to get his mind right," Saleh said. "Probably could have played today, but it was a little bit late in the week when we all felt comfortable with where we were with him. Had him dressed for an emergency only. We'll see if we can get him back into the fold next week.”
