What’s fair ? 28 million per, possibly. Big gap. Jets would like to have Reddick for their two year window. But the Jets, are restricted by their CAP, they have others to pay. Could be time , for the Jets to play hard ball ? I think so. Shawn Jefferson trying to change the Narrative on Lazard. Allen showed up to OTA’s and is working, it’s a positive. Let’s see if Jefferson can work his magic and help Lazard become a marginal WR.

IMO JD was stupid to think he couldn't pay Huff but could pay Reddick. He should have kept Huff and the draft pick or picks he gave up for Reddick. Eff Reddick. If it wouldn't hurt the Jets, I'd wish that Reddick would tear up his knee so badly that he'd never be able to play football again. I despise players with attitudes like his. I'm really starting to think that JD is bi-polar or schizophrenic. He'll make a great move, then turn around and make and equally stupid move.

The Riddick trade mystified me from the get go. We let a 10 sack 26 year old DE walk in free agency and he signs for $22m. So we then spend a 3rd round pick for a 30 year old 20 sack DE that’s looking for $25+ m? And now we have a hold out? Hmmmm.

Ron, the main problem with your post is that it is well thought out, logical and makes a lot of sense unlike what ever the Jet organization says. They consider you a rebellious fan.

Not a fully fair comparison. Reddick is much better than Huff, although huff could still improve to Reddicks level due to age. The play was to pay Huff about 10M with an in-season contract extension or Trade him at deadline.

Abdul, as usual good and fair points. In the end none of this will matter if he has a great season for us.

The Jets have all the leverage and would not pay this guy a penny more - he sits out he sits out. Good for Jefferson working with Lazard - May catch lightening in a bottle. ts not like the guy was bad before he came to the Jets - The jets didnt have a QB

While the Jets are left playing the adult version of WHERE’S WALDO ( Reddick )

One question needs to be asked, before the trade was completed, did the Jets talk to Reddick’s people.

If they did, is it possible that his people said all the right things but never meant what they said or did the JD and the Jets completely fail GMing 101 and just assume that Reddick was coming without speaking to his people knowing his intentions.

As far as new wide receivers coach praising Lazard. In the two OTAs that the press corps attended, Lazard dropped every ball thrown to him.

Maybe, Coach Jefferson is on to something when he says Lazard is like having a second coach in the room.

Maybe they should ask him to retire as a player and become an assistant coach, because it doesn’t look good for the team right now with him playing Dropsy all day.

Pay him whatever his contract is and give a more deserving player his spot.

Coach Jefferson, we understand what your motivation is about but remember one thing the brilliant minds of the Torch and Pitchfork Brigade do not forget quotes that are strictly BS covering for a player.

From what has been reported the trade would not have happened unless Douglas has reassurance that Reddick was not going to hold out. He talked to the Eagles GM and Reddicks agent.

JD was close to the Eagles' leadership as he worked there. He should have known the inside story on Reddick. If he traded for Reddick knowing that he was just a mercenary type and likely to hold out, he's stupid imo. He'd better not cave on this like he did in the negotiations with Gutekunst for Rodgers. The Jets hold all the leverage. Fine Reddick's ass the maximum of what the CBA allows, let him know that his not being is hurting, not helping his case to get a new contract, and that it's hurting the team. Give him a deadline to have his ass there, and if he isn't tell him that not only will there not be a contract from the Jets for him, but he will be traded to the worst team in football if they'll take a greedy bastard like him.

Sorry meant begrudgingly. Early here!

Maybe I misunderstood the reasoning of the team allowing Huff to walk, in turn trading a 3rd for Reddick. It seemed to me, from the get-go, that it was intended as a way to exchange similar pass rushers, not having to give up any value in the process (because of the compensatory pick that Huff will produce, which takes the place of the 3rd they sent out for Reddick), all the while not giving out a long-term contract to a pass rusher. That still feels like it'd be the plan. I suppose it's possible that they actually want to resign Reddick, but, given the draft capital that they'd already invested in the position, you'd think that they went through this whole convoluted process to extend the window of not having to pay an absurd price for a luxory. I think Reddick is still valuable even if he does the whole dog and pony show of not showing up until training camp. I can't imagine the guy sitting out. Crazier things have happened, though, I suppose. Even if that is true, they probably still get a certain amount of value out of the whole process. I guess I'm still pretty bullish on the move. I like it, still. Time will tell, I suppose.

Danny Boy, while I understand your thinking on this and find a good deal logic to it I guess I’m an idealist and ideally I want everyone all in every day! There will always be something to say for team unity. And this is the time of year to build that.

I'm with ya, for sure! Saleh has been saying the same thing, as well. We want these guys in the building every single day. We want em' all to be first in and last out. He seems like the sort of dude who provides a high floor of production without a ton of ramp-up. He doesn't necessarily seem like a Mosley guy who is going to lead the defense. It's probably a good experience for all of the young defensive ends to get lots of reps, in the mean time. The UDFAs (Watts and McGregor), Clemons (who is probably penciled in as the starter at Franklin-Myers' old position while Reddick is out), and McDonald (the Huff replacement) will surely get some valuable reps and experience! Positive vibes!

Thanks DWH. Short and sweet. Get some rest. I dislike being reminded of the business side of this game, but it is a business. I never begrudgingly a player maximizing their return. It is a physically brutal sport and most contracts are one-way to the team's advantage.

It's the SOJ so I'm not surprised. Something is rotten here. Either JD is a complete dolt for supposedly taking the word of the Eagles that Reddick would be the good soldier or Reddick is a d-bag at heart. Either way the train keeps rolling. If Reddick holds out, treat him like a pariah and fine him every penny that are entitled to do. I don't know how the rules work but make him persona non grata at 1 Jet Drive and don't let him on the property for any reason other than coming in to sign a deal.

And they should low-ball his offer to less than what Huff signed for.

Haason Reddick wants a new contract. No, he wasn’t thrilled with his usage in Sean Desai/Matt Patricia's defense last year (48 snaps in coverage), but the root of his frustrations, and the primary reason he asked the Eagles to trade him, was because he wasn’t happy with his current deal. Reddick’s current contract pays him $15 million annually. Nick Bosa (49ers), Josh Allen (Jaguars) and Brian Burns (Giants) all recently signed contracts worth north of $28 million annually. That’s the realm Reddick, fourth-most sacks in the NFL since 2020 (50.5), wants to be in, too.

The Jets have enjoyed their quiet offseason – quite the opposite from the Circus of 2023. They have Super Bowl hype, yes, but they’re not boasting about it. They believe they’re significantly improved, yes, but there are no external cameras to document it.

Attention breeds drama. The Jets want as little of that as possible. Their goal: Fly as under the radar as a team in New York possibly can.

Mission almost accomplished. They were dealt their first storm on Tuesday.

Reddick, among the team’s biggest offseason acquisitions, is officially a holdout.

The Eagles were not willing to pay Reddick, who will turn 30 next month, that deal. Instead, they signed 26-year-old Bryce Huff to a contract worth $17 million annually and shipped Reddick to the Jets.

Contract-hungry players holding out is nothing new. What’s surprising about the Jets-Reddick situation is the team felt they and the player were on the same page at the time of the trade. The Jets made things clear to Reddick: They would not rip up his contract before the season. They directly communicated that while adjustments could be discussed (adding incentives based on performances to his current deal), there would not be an extension. Reddick would play out the deal, and if his sack production continued, he’d receive the salary he coveted as a free agent (either with the Jets or another team) after 2024. The two sides would reassess after the season if Reddick wanted to continue to play for the Jets.

Reddick was on board. He had a tremendous visit with the team, sources told SNY, when he showed up to take his physical and finalize the trade from Philadelphia. Additional sources informed SNY that Reddick told members of the team he would be in attendance for the offseason program (including organized team activities) and minicamp on his current contract.

Then, something changed.

Head coach Robert Saleh said at last week’s final media-open organized team activity that he hadn't had contact with Reddick up to that point, although the Jets knew what he was doing. He then said he expected he would attend mandatory minicamp.

Reddick was the only player not in attendance for Monday’s internal media day. He then no-showed for the start of on-field drills on Tuesday, as first reported by SNY. Reddick forgoed a $250,000 workout bonus by skipping the offseason program. He is subject to fines after skipping mandatory minicamp.

The Jets do not know when Reddick plans on showing up. They believe he will be there for training camp, but because of the lack of communication, nothing is certain. Reddick denied comment on his contract or intentions when approached by the New York Post at a recent football camp.

Despite the optics, the Jets aren’t overly concerned that Reddick’s absence will impact his on-field production this season. This is not a player whose physical shape is ever questioned, and they know he is working out on his own. He will return to form (double-digit sacks each of the last four seasons, 27 the last two years) whenever he arrives and be a dynamic force on their attack-first defensive line. Reddick will join Will McDonald, Quinnen Williams and Jermaine Johnson to complete one of the NFL’s more talented defensive fronts.

The Jets still believe Reddick will be a mentor and leader on their defense, too. Their continued praise of his character is genuine.

They’re simply awaiting his arrival — and as surprised as anyone else he’s not here yet.
