Good morning!
Mike Williams was in the building yesterday and he was being wooed by a breakfast sandwich sent in by a fan (and bloody nice guy). Whatever the Jets did, it worked. Jadeveon Clowney is in the building today. Details of the Tyron Smith contract emerge and don’t worry…Joe Namath’s 50-year-old knee brace is being preserved. All in a day with the Jets.
Jadeveon Clowney will now be visiting the facility today rather than yesterday as was originally reported.
It’s officially the wild season when it comes to the draft. Daniel Jeremiah had the Jets trading up to number 5 to take Marvin Harrison Jr in his latest mock.
Mel Kiper Jr had the Jets taking Brock Bowers in his latest offering.
Tyron Smith’s contract with the Jets was revealed yesterday and it’s a good one
It’s a one-year deal worth a maximum of $20 million.
Only $6.5 million is guaranteed at the point of signing.
His play-time incentives start at 38% where he can earn $750k and then it increases from there up to him earning $5.75 million if he plays in 68% of the Jets snaps.
Then his second play-time incentive starts at 74% of all snaps and goes all the way to him potentially earning another $6.25 million if he plays in 98% of all the snaps.
$250k per playoff win up to a maximum of $1 million.
$500k for a Pro Bowl appearance.
Here’s a good story about the HOF receiving money to help restore the legendary brace that Joe Namath wore in the 1970 season following the Super Bowl win in 1969. It looks pretty clunky now but apparently, it was top-of-the-line.
Last week the Jets prioritised the offensive line, building a unit capable of keeping their prized asset in the game.
They explored the wide receiver market thoroughly, being involved in several negotiations for players who eventually got traded like Kennan Allen.
None of those deals felt right, but then the perfect opportunity presented itself when the LA Chargers were forced to cut Mike Williams due to cap issues.
We’re led to believe that the Chargers wanted Williams back, but with his newfound freedom he wanted to explore his options and the Jets were quick to secure the first visit.
It turns out that’s all he needed to find a new home. Just hours into his visit it was announced that the Jets were signing Williams to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million.
