Good morning! ☕
Yesterday I got a great email from a brand new Jets fan, who’s been following the team for around 4-5 weeks now, and is already a subscriber here at TJW (I appreciate it Scott), and he asked if I planned to do a preview for the season, mainly for new fans.
I often forget that the Jets are picking up new fans on a daily basis, especially with the excitement for the new season. So I sometimes just assume that everyone is up to date on everything NYJ, but sometimes it’s good to go back and remind ourselves of the change. So that’s what I’m going to do over the next two days.
🛸 Do you ever get the feeling that Aaron Rodgers likes to mess about with the media? Well, he had a UFO story to share in Hard Knocks:
"It just didn't seem like normal, and I heard some rustling downstairs," Rodgers said on the season finale of "Hard Knocks." "So I got up, walked downstairs, it's a beautiful night, and [we] walked outside, and up in the clouds, we heard this sound, and we saw this tremendously large object moving through the sky. And it was like a scene out of ‘Independence Day' when the ships are coming into the atmosphere, and they're creating this, like, kind of explosion-type fire in the sky. We saw this incredibly large object and froze, as anybody would, because, you know, what the hell is going on? Eventually, it went out of sight, and nobody said a word. We just stood frozen."
🏃 The Jets worked out some players yesterday, and one of those players was wide receiver Kenny Golladay. One of the most disappointing free-agent signings in recent memory, fortunately for the boys in blue and not us. NY signed him to a bumper 4 year deal worth $72 million before the 2021 season, he caught 1 touchdown in two years and didn’t make the third year of his contract.
🏃The Jets also worked out QB Anthony Brown, RB Ellis Merriweather, WR Jeff Smith and WR James Proche. It’s interesting the Jets worked out 3 wide receivers, with 7 guys already on the active 53. A nice little bit of due diligence and nothing else.
🔵 Bills coach Sean McDermott confirmed three starters yesterday: Terrel Bernard will start at middle linebacker, Christian Benford will start as the second cornerback across from Tre'Davious White and rookie O'Cyrus Torrence will be the starting right guard on the offensive line.
📋 The Jets released their first depth chart of the season, here are some things to note:
Irvin Charles is listed as the backup to Lazard, with Brownlee #3.
Billy Turner is listed as the backup for LT Duane Brown.
Jermaine Johnson is listed as a backup for Carl Lawson, JFM the other starter.
Bryce Huff is listed behind Micheal Clemons for JFM’s backup.
Barnes is listed as Sherwood’s backup, and Surratt is the backup for Mosley & Williams.
Adrian Amos is listed as Tony Adams's backup, and Ashtyn Davis is listed as Jordan Whitehead.
In terms of kick and punt return, the Jets have it listed as “Mecole Hardman or Xavier Gipson” which is a touch unusual.
