Good morning! ☕
We’re officially off and running. I won’t spoil the result from last night's Kansas/Detroit game just in case you plan to watch it today, but I speak for everyone when I say, man, it’s good to have football back.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, I’ll be heading off to Spain 🇪🇸 for our first family holiday as a four tomorrow morning. I have absolutely no idea how it’s going to go with a 3-year-old and a 4 month year old, but I’ll find out soon enough. So just a quick reminder that TJW may be a little inconsistent next week.
Today I’m turning my focus to three things. Previewing the defence, and projecting some performances and I’m also going to predict the gameday 46 for Monday’s game (thanks for the suggestion Charles).
🤕 I missed this one yesterday, so apologies for that. The Jets released Jimmy Moreland from injured IR with an injury settlement. It’s a shame as I thought Moreland had a really good camp, and it’s an unfortunate break that he injured his hand in the pre-season finale against the Giants.
🐎 Former Colts receiver Pierre Garçon gave an interview to Betway and he had some comments on the Jets. "It's always tough to go against Kansas City. We want to see somebody else winning but it's hard to see somebody else beating Kansas City. Especially when it comes down to the crunch time because when Patrick Mahomes has the ball in his hands, you know where he's gone. So it's hard to go against Kansas City, but I'd be excited if the New York Jets get one" and "They may need another receiver to step up or tight end to step up just to take the burden off of Garrett Wilson. But they're moving in the right direction. If somebody steps up and makes those extra tough catches for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets’ offence."
🔥 There was a lot of talk about Aaron Rodgers's struggles in week one online yesterday but Matt O’Leary put an end to that talk with one simple graphic
🇬🇧 My weekly column with the official UK Jets website dropped yesterday and in it I highlight three key players ahead of the game against Buffalo, and I avoided stating the obvious ones like Rodgers, Sauce, Williams or Wilson. Check it out and as always I appreciate you sharing with any groups you’re a part of.
Here is the start of your injury report.
📣 Robert Saleh was asked about all the talking, and whether that puts a bullseye on the Jets in terms of opponents seeing the quotes like DJ Reeds:
No, now if he was disrespecting another team that would be different, I don’t think that teams look at another team having confidence in itself as a rallying cry and if they are, you probably already lost. That is just my opinion. A team is supposed to have confidence in itself, and if you think that’s a thing that you need to rally your troops around then you guys are struggling to get motivated.
📣 Jeff Ulbrich has been talking about Jermaine Johnson
"He's taken his game to the next level," defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said. "I see a hunger in his eyes and a focus that maybe wasn't there, as consistently as it is for most rookies. He's trying to be the all-around end, which is hard to find nowadays. You got rushers, you got run stoppers. Typically, you don't have guys that do both really well and I think he's really focusing on being that guy and some encouraging signs out there that he is that guy."
