Edition #1211: This is the last week before training camp. I'm ready for the action to start.

Good Morning ☕

Well the World Cup is in the books and Spain were worthy winners. Unfortunately the beautiful game was completely degraded by Argentina last night who showed the world who they really are. A dirty, vile team who hoped they could foul and wrestle their way to the title. They even managed to get a red card after the game for fighting and turned their backs on Spain when they were awarded the trophy That performance/attitude was something you read about happening in the 1920’s, it wasn’t fitting for a World Cup final. When one team doesn’t register a single shot on target over 120 minutes, they shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

But enough about that, Congratulations Spain.

This is the last week before the rookies and veterans report for camp over the weekend (and into next week), although we’re still 25 days away from the Jets opening up their pre-season slate against Tampa Bay. There are plenty of storylines to watch, and some interesting position battles too. Who will be QB2? Who will be the starting safeties? Who plays opposite Brandon Stephens? Is AD Mitchell solidified as WR2? Where does Cooper fit into everything?

We’re going to get into all of this over the coming weeks but for today we’re just going to run through some notes because I’m severely sleep deprived after a month of World Cup working.

NEWS & NOTES 🗞️

• Rich Cimini confirmed what we all thought, the Jets checking in on Terrion Arnold was due diligence:

  • “I think the Jets, from what I understand, their interest was due diligence. I’d be really surprised if they pursued this all the way in terms of signing him.”

• I read an interesting article on Bleacher Report around Trevon Diggs and the Jets being a good match:

  • “However, Diggs is still just 27 years old and could quickly resurrect his career if 100 percent healthy. Given the way the past few seasons have gone for him, though, he might make the most sense for a rebuilding team willing to take a risk on a risk-reward player in its secondary,”

• Omar Cooper revealed that the Jets were considering taking an offensive lineman before taking Ponds in the second round:

  • “I had a meeting with AG and my family. After that meeting, I was like, so what y’all thinking for our first second round pick? And then he was like, ‘It’s either we’re thinking O-Lineman or DB [defensive back].’ He was like, ‘I like your guy D’Angelo Ponds. He kind of reminds me of myself.’ I was like, yeah, go get ’em,”

• ESPN’s Bill Barnwell wrote an article about trade value for each teams players. According to Bill the Jets only have two players worth a first round pick + more in David Bailey and Garrett Wilson:

  • Both players came close to the two first-round pick category for me, but Bailey’s concerns holding up against the run might give teams that want to play with light boxes and ask more out of their edge defenders on early downs some pause. Wilson is coming off an injury-impacted 2025 and hasn’t had that truly great season that would launch him into the top tier of wide receivers (although I’d chalk that up to bad quarterback play).

• Breece Hall is begging the Jets to keep the grass turf that they installed for the World Cup at MetLife…but based on everything that was said before the tournament, the Jets/Giants will move back to artificial turf.
