Good morning!
A week today the Jets start their off-season activities, which means we’ll get to hear directly from the players ahead of the new season, which is still a long way away. We’ll also get to see how players are progressing in their recovery from injury. Aaron Rodgers is expected to be absolutely fine, but where is AVT in his recovery? Today we’re going to have a look at the future of the offence.
T’Vondre Sweat, the mammoth defensive tackle from Texas who was getting some first-round buzz earlier this off-season was arested in Austin yesterday for a DWI. I question anyone intelligence for driving after drinking, but when you’re two weeks out from the most important day of your life and you know you’re under a microscope…well that’s a different level of stupidity. It’ll be interesting to see what this does to his draft stock.
The Jets have scheduled a visit with Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley who’s been compared to Deebo Samuel. He’s been extremely busy receiving official invites from the Steelers, Cowboys, Browns, Ravens, Panthers, Buccs, Seahawks, 49ers and New Orleans.
It’s also been confirmed that Malik Nabers will be visiting the Jets this week. We reported he’d been invited last week, but sometimes prospects run out of time to make all their invitations. Nabers however will make his visit.
Oklahoma defensive tackle Jonah Laulu has confirmed that he’s met several times with the Jets. In an interview with the Draft Network he said “I’ve met with a few teams both virtually and in person,” Laulu said. “I met with the Raiders, Jets, and 49ers at Pro Day. I’ve also met with the Seahawks, Jets, and Colts virtually. I’ve been in touch with a good amount of teams.” Laulu has played both defensive end and defensive tackle in college.
According to Andrew Lind of Sports Logos has revealed the Jets “will unveil their new green home and black alternate uniforms on April 15 after making their ‘Legacy’ throwback uniforms their permanent road look this offseason.”
Hasson Reddick’s father has been speaking to ESPN and he had this to say about his son’s trade from the Eagles: "I really can't wrap my head around it. I'm baffled like everyone else, he outperformed his contract. ... He just wanted market value. He just wanted the numbers that made sense, which he didn't get. It was a thing where I guess [general manager] Howie Roseman felt that it was better to go that way. It felt awkward. It did."
It’s Monday and that tends to mean that we’ve seen a number of mock drafts do the rounds over the weekend. As we’re officially into draft month, I’m going to start dedicating the Monday send to collating all those mocks with their logic and theories.
We’re going to start with Chad Reuter and NFL.com who offered up a 5-round mock draft on Saturday.
I feel as though taking two defensive players in the first four picks won’t go down that well, especially as one of them isn’t a defensive tackle.
I’m still up in the air about Bowers, I’m just not sure you’ll ever get #10 value from him in our kind of offence. But even with a quick glance around the mocks, it’s a very popular pick. As mentioned last week, according to the mock simulators he is the most picked player for the Jets at #10.
Next up we have CBS and Bryan DeArdo who has the Jets going offensive line with Taliese Fuaga.
Interestigly Bowers was still on the board in this mock, as was Fashanu. Fuaga at one point was the most likely pick for the Jets, and I still think he is right there at the top of the Jets draft board. With Moses and Smith only being on one year deals, you have to future proof and considering the strength in the offensive tackle class this would be a wise investment. Especially when you consider how quickly our linemen seem to go down every year.
The Sporting News ran a complete 7-round mock draft which is always a mammoth task. Knowing what to do with one team across 7-rounds is difficult enough, projecting all 32 is an incredibly time-consuming task.
He then followed that pick up with:
One pick after this the Lions take Christian Haynes and I’d much rather take Haynes than take Max Melton who would be behind Michael Carter II and Isasiah Oliver in the pecking order.
#111 - Michael Pratt, Tulane, QB
#134 - Javon Foster, Missouri, OT
#185 - Walter Rouse, Oklahoma, OT
#256 - Gabe Hall, Baylor, DT
#257 - Zion Tupoula-Fetui, Washington, Edge
Pro Football Network also ran a full 7-round mock draft over the weekend and here’s where the Jets landed in that one.
#10 - Olu Fashanu - Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses are the projected starting tackles, but the Jets must future-proof the position. Olu Fashanu could’ve been OT1 had he declared last year but chose to return to school. As an elite pass protector, the Penn State product will keep Aaron Rodgers upright at tackle or guard in Year 1.
#72 - Roman Wilson - Pairing a turbocharged athletic dynamo with Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be allowed, but Roman Wilson falls to the Jets in Round 3, forming a new receiving corps featuring Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and Xavier Gipson.
#111 - Calen Bullock, S, USC
#134 - Michael Pratt, QB, Tulane
#185 - Gabriel Murphy, Edge, UCLA
#256 - Will Reichard, K, Alabama
#257 - Austin McNamara, P, Texas Tech
I know our special team dynamic duo are getting up there in age, but I’d be amazed if we used those picks on a kicker and punter. Zuerlein and Morestead are tied into those places this year and you’re not going to carry backups, strange one.
Michael Pratt is coming up a lot at the minute, and we’re going to have a look at him in tomorrow’s newsletter.
IMHO, all this Bowers talk is Jets smoke, and if Brock gets drafted in the top nine, the Jets Win. Chicago has needs , and with only 4 picks in this years draft, they are a team that could trade down, Jet competition in the trade down scenario. I’m an OT guy, but if they go weapons WR Brian Thomas over Bowers. Looking at today’s Mocks, reminds me that this Jet organization will draft Defense any chance it gets. Lighting my torch , if they draft Defense at 72, seriously.

Nice post today. I’ll say it again there should not be one defensive player taken in the draft - not one !! The defense is built and even if it was at 80% it’s still good enough to win with - shessh
